My dear friends,
(As we have developed the good practice here at IHM, Confessions are available on First Saturdays (today) at 8:00am before the morning Mass.)
Come Holy Spirt! Fill the Hearts of Your Faithful!
This weekend we bring to a divine conclusion the Easter Season as we celebrate Pentecost - the Coming of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles - the Church - in the Upper Room where the Last Supper was celebrated by Jesus!
At Sunday's 12:00 noon Mass we will be blessed to see three members of our RCIA Family (Rite/Order of Christian Initiation for Adults) receive the Sacrament of Confirmation and then receive the Holy Eucharist for the first time. Congratulations to Elizabeth, Christopher and Joseph and to your families! Thank you Coordinators Ray and Brenda Mechmann, Seminarian Vincent Castaldi and Michael Farrell, for all you are doing to bring them to this sacramental moment!
To enter more deeply into this amazing Solemnity, do come to Sr. Nancy's second of three talks this morning (Saturday) at 9:30am in the School Auditorium, and this evening's Vigil Mass at 5:30pm for Pentecost, where three extra readings will give us the opportunity to reflect on the culminating Mystery of Jesus' Mission to Save us!
This past Thursday Bishop James Massa of St. Joseph's Seminary confirmed our young people in two beautiful Liturgies. Congratulation to all of those who have received the Sevenfold Gift of the Holy Spirit! May the Lord Jesus bring forth much spiritual fruit in you for the good of our parish!
Thank you to our DRE Mrs. Diane Meade, our Principal Mrs. Tracy Keelin, all in the Religious Education Program and in the IHM School, and those at Ursuline and Holy Child, who supported the parents in their awesome privilege and responsibility of preparing these young men and women for the completion of their Initiation into the Church!
Do cheer on and pray for our parishioner and tremendous volunteer, Paul Asaro, who is competing at the U.S.A. Special Olympics this week!! Opening Ceremonies will be on Sunday, June 5th from noon to 3pm. June 11th will be Paul's triathlon race. ESPN2 and 3 will be covering various events on cable and online.
The Immaculate Heart of Mary is celebrated by the Church this year on Saturday, June 25th. Since she is our parish's patroness, we are able to transfer the celebration as a Solemnity to the Sunday Masses! Therefore, we will have a parish celebration after the Saturday Vigil Mass (procession, food for all and fun things for the youngsters) and after the Sunday, June 26th Masses, a Procession to the Blessed Mother Statue outside and Coffee and Donuts after each Mass (8am, 10am & 12noon). Do plan to join in the festivities!
Our IHM School Development Committee is up and running! Please see below for further information on upcoming events (Alum Mix and Mingle on Wednesday) and support (end-of-the year raffle).
Please welcome Fr. Jeevankumar Kamalapuram, who will arrive on Thursday and assist Fr. Thumma and myself this summer until September to allow us time away for vacation and retreat. Father Jeevankumar is from Cuddapah, India, and has just completed his degree in Rome from the Saint John Paul II Institute. Welcome to New York, Father!
This summer things are still coming together to make use of our great campus: a Chess Camp week (June 20th to the 24th), a Theater Program for two weeks (June 27th to July 9th) and some basketball opportunities. Stay tuned for more information!
Have an incredible Pentecost and wear red to Mass this Saturday evening and Sunday to celebrate the Birthday of the Church!
