Congratulations to our new Parish Council Members! They will be welcomed at the June meeting so that they can hit the ground running in the Fall. Thank you for your willingness to serve and I look forward to your input.
First Holy Communions, along with various May Crowning ceremonies, are beautiful moments in the life of a parish - may the children's love and desire for Jesus help stir up our faith in the Holy Eucharist! (Please have all our First Communicants wear their outfits to Sunday Masses this weekend.)
Our Religious Education Program is coming to its conclusion this week. While I will have an opportunity to thank Diane Meade, Laura Covais, the Staff and the Catechists soon, let me thank the parents for coming back to a year overwhelmingly in-person and for the patience you exhibited as we rode out the Christmas Omicron variant in the months of January and February. May what was accomplished this year be an indication of the still greater things we can do next school year!
This past week HSOR had graduation for our senior high school members, where we wished them all the best as they prepare for colleges and heard about how much this program meant for their life of faith and the friendships nurtured here. While still more Wednesday evenings remain for all, thank you Nancy Vericker with Elise Kuhn and Ray Mechmann for all you do to inspire our teens and to keep them connected with our parish church.
This Sunday at the 12:00 noon Mass we will have the Rite of the Call to Continuing Conversion to three Baptized members of our RCIA Process who are preparing for full Initiation to the Catholic Church at Pentecost!

The Parish Council is pleased to announce the newest members of the Council. These Parishioners submitted self-nominations for the four open seats. Since no other formal nominations were received, and with these excellent candidates representing many of the different facets of our Parish, it has been determined there is no need to hold an election.
We welcome Mary Balcom, Katya Drohan, Carolyn Gianelli and Catherine Windels to the Parish Council. They will each serve a three-year term from 2022-2025. We are also thrilled to announce our two teen representatives, Christina Semple and Paul Windels who will serve a one-year term.

Catherine Windels
Education and Skills: I am a writer and policy communications specialist with four decades of experience in government, politics, and the corporate sector, including stakeholder and media relations, speechwriting, and international affairs. I have written speeches and articles for Cabinet Members and corporate CEOs, and have also worked as a freelance journalist, contributing feature articles and opinion pieces to a range of publications including The National Catholic Register. I worked for 22 years at Pfizer Inc, where I acted as Pfizer’s ambassador to think tanks and opinion journalists around the world. Before that, I served in the Reagan Administration for six years. I am on the board of the American Studies Center (Arlington, VA), the parent organization for Radio America, a network with some 400 affiliate stations around the U.S., and for the American Veterans Center, which conducts programs to capture and honor the history of veterans from all of America’s foreign wars. I am a graduate of Villanova University, where I majored in history. As a volunteer, I teach history to middle schoolers in a classical Catholic homeschool cooperative in Pelham, which is attended by a number of IHM parishioners.

Hi! My name is Christina Semple, and I am a sophomore at Scarsdale High School. I have attended IHM school of religion since kindergarten, and am so happy to currently be in the High School of Religion! I played IHM CYO basketball for many years and I also sing in the choir here at IHM. I am excited to be on the Parish Council because I feel that I can effectively allow the voices and opinions of teens to be heard in the community, and that I will be able to learn more about the church and the parish that I will be able to share with my peers.

I am a high school sophomore at Iona Prep. I attended the IHM parish school from second grade through fifth. I have attended Iona Prep since sixth grade. I was a member of the chess club at IHM School for many years. I played for the IHM CYO basketball team from 3rd through 8th grade. I have served Mass at IHM since fourth grade. As an Iona Prep student, I am required to serve the Church and other people. I think that service in my own parish will be a great way to fulfill this obligation.

The College Group has an opportunity to volunteer at IHM's May Planting Event on Sunday, May 15th following the 9:00AM Children's Mass. This is a quick but great event where parishioners have the opportunity to come to the Lower Church after Mass to plant some flowers to take home with them.

"Behold, I Make All Things New"
As we continue our Easter season, our readings this weekend detail the missionary travels of Paul and Barnabas, the powerful unification of heaven and earth in the Book of Revelation, and Jesus' new commandment to his followers: "Love one another."
From the beginning to the end, the story of the Bible could be summed up by the words of Christ from John's great vision in Revelation: "Behold, I make all things new." We love home renovation shows for this reason -- the taking of the old and, not discarding it, but renewing it and making it even better and more beautiful than the original. This is our destiny before the Lord, the God who calls us to restoration and renewal.
Even our suffering, our wounds, and our trauma can be renewed for God's glory. Just look at the Cross! God wants you to be restored and renewed. How will you respond?

- We are looking for more volunteers to cook for the HOPE Community Supper Program. The need is greater than ever. Cooking is done at home and delivered to the Church, it is then picked up and delivered to HOPE Community Services in New Rochelle (www.hopecommunityservices.org).

'Sheli' - A Shepherd and His Sheep
After 20 years of teaching at Immaculate Heart of Mary, religious education program, Deanna Danielle found "the best way to engage my class is through bringing topics to life by taking what is 'old' and making it 'new' and relatable in today's context." Danielle has written a story about a shepherd and his sheep.
"I believe that a teacher is not so much responsible for what their students know, but more so for the seeds they plant to help them grow," said Danielle. "As a catechist it is my heartfelt desire to inspire a self-realization journey helping others to discover their hidden treasures within, by connecting biblical truths with modern-day examples of faith."

During this special time, focus on how Jesus is calling your family to new life!
Living Your Faith With Joy
Easter is not just a single day, it is an entire season in which we joyfully reflect on the Resurrection of Jesus. This amazing event is too important and beautiful to spend only a single day celebrating.
Jesus conquered death for all of us! It is because Jesus rose from the dead that we believe we can too. He is calling all of us to new life! Our own resurrection began with our baptism. Each and every day, the Lord is inviting us closer to Him. Jesus is calling your family to grow in a relationship with Him.
Our faith and relationship with the Lord is meant to bring us happiness and fulfillment. Parents should show their kids how Jesus brings joy and completion to their lives. Look for ways to remember and celebrate the joy of your faith as a family!
Try this with your kids!
When you eat dinner as a family each evening, take some time to discuss how Jesus was present in your day. Go around the table and invite each family member to share one story of how God was part of their day. Be a good example and go first, help your kids learn to see the Lord and their faith as part of their daily lives.
