My dear friends,
Good morning! Please excuse my absence Friday eve at the School's Talent Show, today, Saturday, and at the first two Sunday morning Masses this weekend. I will be in New Jersey for a family wedding. Fr. Justin M. Cinnante, a Carmelite Priest and Chaplain at Iona Prep, will offer the 8:30am Saturday Mass and hear Confessions immediately following Mass.
Please take note of the new Sunday Mass Schedule (8am-10am-12noon) to begin Memorial Day Weekend and go through Labor Day Weekend.
This past Wednesday the parish had an opportunity to thank Mrs. Diane Meade and Mrs. Laura Covais, the staff of the Religious Education office and all of the Catechists for their hard work this year! Congratulations on making it through a challenging time! Thank you especially to those who teach the children our Catholic Faith through their words, actions and attitudes and echo the home formation in the faith that parents are blessed to lead and nourish. May the grace of Jesus bless your generous time and presence, dear Catechists, by bringing our parish children to greater knowledge and love of our Lord Jesus and our Heavenly Father.
Thank you Mrs. Eileen Tobin, Chair of our Parish Council, and to the Council's One Community events last weekend coordinated by Mrs. Tracy Keelin! The Friday Night at the Museum 2 in the north lot was so much fun! The Sunday morning planting event in the lower church together with "Coffee and Donuts" by the Nicholson's was a wonderful time to see people being together. If you have not seen the photos of some of the children planting in their First Holy Communion outfits, check them out below and on our social media accounts - they are precious and priceless!
This Sunday at the 12:00 noon Mass we will have the Rite of the Call to Continuing Conversion to three Baptized members of our RCIA Process who are preparing for full Initiation to the Catholic Church at Pentecost!
Do not miss Sister Nancy Kellar's upcoming Saturday morning talks on the Holy Spirit (please see below for more information)! IHM is blessed with someone like Sister Nancy who was head of the International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Service in Rome and has traveled to over 60 countries around the world to present on the Holy Spirt!
Let's cheer on one of IHM's own who helps out so much at the Parish - Paul Asaro will be headed in June to Orlando, Florida, to compete once again in the Special Olympics Triathlon! God bless you Paul and Congratulations!!!

The Parish Council is pleased to announce the newest members of the Council. These Parishioners submitted self-nominations for the four open seats. Since no other formal nominations were received, and with these excellent candidates representing many of the different facets of our Parish, it has been determined there is no need to hold an election.
We welcome Mary Balcom, Katya Drohan, Carolyn Gianelli and Catherine Windels to the Parish Council. They will each serve a three-year term from 2022-2025. We are also thrilled to announce our two teen representatives, Christina Semple and Paul Windels who will serve a one-year term.

Jesus "ascends" into Heaven. What does this mean?
We do not believe that Jesus is on a cloud or floating around the galaxy or went "up, up, and away!" For the Jewish people, "heaven" and "earth" are two realms that are connected, not separated. We don't escape the earth or our earthly bodies; the Biblical worldview understands heaven and earth as interacting in a very real way.
When we say that Jesus "ascends," we believe that he is (1) alive and (2) with us still in a very real way. "Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky?" the angels say to the apostles (Acts 1:11). Jesus is still with us now, so let's get to work on bringing about the Kingdom of God in the here and now!

How many of us are constantly stressed? How many of us are carrying unseen burdens, anxiety or depression, trauma or addictions? How many of us are longing for peace?
Jesus' peace consists of unifying ourselves with God, our neighbors, and our very bodies. Jesus' peace does not mean a bland tolerance of "anything goes;" the peace of Jesus is one that fights for our souls, our freedom, and our redemption. He went to the Cross for us so that we might follow him on that path of dying and rising, to be born anew.
The "City of God," that St. John is describing in our passage from Revelation this week is this heavenly destination where no sun or moon is needed because "the glory of God gave it light, and its lamp was the Lamb" (Rev. 21:23). We will never have full and abiding peace on this side of heaven. But it is in the Church that God has established here on earth where we can receive forgiveness of our sins, community and fellowship, and the Bread of Life for the journey.

Join us for a special evening sponsored by our parish’s Dignity of Life Committee to hear a story of Family, Faith & Forgiveness from Patti Ann McDonald who turned tragedy of her NYPD husband’s shooting into a journey of healing that has touched millions. Detective Steven McDonald lived to become an ambassador for peace bringing his message of conflict resolution through forgiveness to troubled areas from Ireland to Bosnia to Israel. Hear also from Ann Marie and Pat D’Aliso who lost a son to suicide at just 16 years old. By sharing their story, they hope other lives will be saved. All are welcome to this free event!
