IHM CHURCH - November 29 Bulletin
My dear friends,
I hope your Thanksgiving holiday was a blessing even with present limitations - Happy New Liturgical Year with the First Sunday of Advent upon us!
For the present time, let us bank on
Monday evenings having
Rosary outside at Our Lady’s Statue at 7:30pm followed by Adoration and Benediction from 8:00-9:00pm in the church.
Adoration will be offered Fridays from 9:30-10:30am.
Both have had a good and solid reception and thank you to all who sign-up for them so to preserve safe numbers.
Please note that this update in our parish’s schedule will be subject to change on holidays and with funerals.
At the suggestion of the Parish Council, I would like to offer some Advent Meditations to prepare for Christmas.
I will utilize the
Monday evening Holy Hours from 8-9pm
for a 20-30 minute reflection each week. They will be live-streamed and then available in the archived section for those who may wish to watch at another time.
Advent Reflection Series 2020:

HIS WORD TODAY
by Rev. William J. Reilly
First Sunday of Advent
“You, Lord, are our father, our redeemer you are named forever. Why do you let us wander from your ways and harden our hearts so that we fear you not? Return for the sake of your servants, the tribes of your heritage. Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down... would that you might meet us as doing right, that we were mindful of you in our ways!”
A new and special time of prayer has begun. Silently and sneakily, an enemy has redirected our lives since early March. Our lives have been altered and we were summoned to consider what is of real importance – our family, our health, including our spiritual life. This is our advent infected by the virus.
As we begin the period of hope and expectation, may we look to the Word of God, find a time for prayer and reflection each day. We ask, why is this advent to be different? The answer is found in the events of the past months. We need the Lord more than ever. We cannot afford to wander, we need fear, that is, respect for the Lord who saves. We come as beggars, asking that the Lord come down to support and abide with us. Our mantra, the final words of the bible ‘Come, Lord Jesus.’
“You, O Lord, you are our father; we are the clay, the work of your hands.” Remake us during this advent.

THANK YOU FROM HOPE
To the IHM Community - our partners in bringing hope to HOPE:
Believe me when I say that we truly are thankful every day for your help in making HOPE's mission a reality. We know that you can't possibly do all that you do without the assistance of your many ready, willing and able members of Immaculate Heart Mary Parish. We want to convey our thanks and wishes for a Thanksgiving and Holiday Season of good health, safe times and joy in being near to those you hold near and dear, though it may just be virtually this year.
With my warmest wishes for easier times and much happiness,
A very special “Thank You” to all who donated gift cards, cash and food supplies for our Thanksgiving collection. The Thanksgiving Season would not be complete without acknowledging your support. Your generosity has touched the lives of many in need and is sincerely appreciated.

PRAYER AGAINST CARONA VIRUS
Lord Jesus Christ, Our Divine Physician,
we ask you to guard and protect us from
Coronavirus COVID-19 and all serious illness.
For all that have died from it, have mercy;
for those that are ill now, bring healing.
For those searching for a remedy, enlighten them;
for medical caregivers helping the sick, strengthen and shield them.
For those working to contain the spread,
grant them success; for those afraid, grant peace.
May your precious blood be our defense and salvation.
By your grace, may you turn the evil of disease
into moments of consolation and hope.
May we always fear the contagion of sin more than any illness.
We abandon ourselves to your infinite mercy.

PRO LIFE CORNER
We should note that a legal abortion is never a “safe” abortion for the unborn child whose life is ended. It also leaves wounded mothers, fathers, and siblings as well. Pray for all who have had an abortion. May they seek the forgiveness of the Lord and are able to forgive themselves.
Area hospitals and NYC Health + Hospitals, are joining forces with New York Blood Center (NYBC) to increase blood donations. Temporary blood shortages are not uncommon during winter holidays each year, but the COVID-19 pandemic has created a chronic shortage across the country that shows no sign of improving.
New York’s healthcare system requires 1,500 donations each day to treat patients ranging from trauma victims to newborn babies and cancer patients. Prior to the pandemic, donors could stop by community blood drives at convenient locations. Blood donors can now make appointments to visit donor centers,
but donations are at just 65% of pre-pandemic levels
- well below what is needed by hospitals and patients in our area. This is an incredibly challenging time for our communities.
