My dear friends of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish,
One of the insightful approaches to life that our Holy Father Pope Francis tries to live and teach is how to approach various difficult situations. We as human beings can quickly react to situations and circumstances. While this can serve us well in the 'fight or flight' response, what can often be overlooked is needed reflection before action.
We live in very challenging times with tremendous pressure and stress on individuals, families and communities from the physical to the emotional to the spiritual. As we approach Thanksgiving may we be reminding that we never face anything alone. The Lord and Savior is with us and, through God’s Providence, often family, friends and even sometimes a Good Samaritan, are there to assist and encourage us.
What is a good Christian way to live this moment that we are in? May I suggest the following:
- Be AWARE of what is going on in the world we live in from Home to Neighborhood to Nation.
- ACKNOWLEDGE what effect it has in my heart and life (e.g. joy, fear, stress, hope, uncertainty, etc.).
- RELATE it to the Father, to Jesus, to the Holy Spirit, knowing that our loving God is beholding our every moment and wants us to share the details of our lives with Him - this is rich material for prayer!
- Take a breath and RECEIVE what grace, peace, strength and consolation God wishes to give us in this particular moment, even if we are not fully conscious that it is happening in our souls.
- and then, finally, ACT.
Have a wonderful Solemnity of Jesus Christ ur King and preparation for Thanksgiving!

MASS ON THANKSGIVING DAY
You are invited to start the day by giving thanks to God and attending the 9AM Mass which will also include music. Canned or packaged food for the poor will be collected as is our tradition.
On Thursday November 26, Thanksgiving Day & Friday, November 27
Masses will be celebrated at 8AM & 9AM only. There will be no 6:45AM Mass. The Mass Signup for Thanksgiving day (11/26) ONLY is below. There is NO Mass Signup for Friday (11/27) required.
The Parish Office will be closed on Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27 in observance of Thanksgiving.

I know this Thanksgiving, I have much to be thankful for- School families who have believed in our Catholic school, before and during this pandemic; a hard working faculty and staff, and the most wonderful group of students who I get to see everyday. In addition, I have a supportive Pastor and Parish advocating for our school.

IHM PARISH COUNCIL NEWS
The Parish Council held its monthly meeting via Zoom on November 16th. Msgr. Sweeney updated the council on the status of various ministries in the Parish, the Renew and Rebuild campaigns and plans for upcoming Christmas celebrations. Although the pandemic has somewhat restricted our event planning and outreach, the Council would like to focus on two initiatives.
- One Community with the goal of building our community through strengthening the ties between Immaculate Heart of Mary parish, school and our surrounding communities.
- Reinvigorating social outreach ministries in our current reality

Our next meeting will be held on Monday, January 11.
RENEW + REBUILD CORNER
The R+R committee is reviewing architectural drawings and specifications for the scope of exterior repairs. Following the committee’s review, the drawings and specifications will be reviewed by the Pastor and representatives from the Archdiocese before being sent out to bid to qualified contractors.
The committee and Pastor have reviewed preliminary interior finish replacement concepts submitted by the architect and have provided feedback. The committee will continue to work with the architect to revise the interior finish concepts and assemble them into a presentation for final review by the Pastor and Archdiocese.
As of November 1, IHM’s Renew + Rebuild Contributions are as follows:
