Hello everyone. I hope you are well and keeping safe. I just finished a conference meeting with all the priests and deacons of the Archdiocese who tuned in to hear from Cardinal Dolan and key staff members.
Some tough news about an announcement of school closings throughout the Archdiocese will be given in the next few weeks. My hunch is that it will deal mostly with regional schools (but I don't know) and those with very poor enrollments. Sad, sad, sad!
Also some more news on new lawsuits against the Archdiocese and parishes that have had credible claims of clergy (and workers for church and the schools) sex abuse. I appreciated the candor of the Cardinal so therefore I share the news with you. Let us pray for the healing of all victims and justice for all.
There were also reminders of how to open our churches and follow the proper procedures of celebrating public mass with masks and social distancing. I think we did well last week.
Some good questions were texted in by many priests.
It was a good dialogue and it appears there will be more to come. I will keep you posted.
Tomorrow is the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. All parishes will offer the sacrament of reconciliation. We will have confessions following the 10AM Mass at 10:30 until 12 noon. And then from 4PM to 6PM. Enjoy the rest if the day. You might pray with me my "go to" prayer:
Jesus before my eyes, Jesus in my hands, Jesus in my heart!
