Hello everyone. 28 years ago, I offered my very first Mass. We celebrated the Mass in St. Paul’s in Yonkers where my family moved when I was in St. Joseph’s Seminary. It was such an incredible experience with family and friends from all over as well as the people from St. Paul’s and other parishes where I served. More than anything I felt such a powerful connection with God’s holy people and how much I appreciated how I would need to depend on them to help me be the best priest that I could be. I am still walking on air and so grateful for this gift of priesthood but I hope you see it as a gift that we both share. I thank God and I thank all of you here at IHM for filling my life with such joy. Please pray for me and my classmates. Pray that we be the best priests we can be, especially these crazy days and probably crazier days to come.
As you know, May is the month of Mary. Saturday we had a simple May crowning of our beautiful shrine in the parking lot. Have you dropped by lately to see how wonderful the shrine looks thanks to a number of parish volunteers. Here are the words of a song I learned a long time ago. I bet many of you can sing it without having to look at the words.
O Mary we crown thee with blossoms today!
Queen of the Angels and Queen of the May.
O Mary we crown thee with blossoms today,
Queen of the Angels and Queen of the May.
Bring flowers of the rarest
bring blossoms the fairest,
from garden and woodland and hillside and dale;
our full hearts are swelling,
our glad voices telling
the praise of the loveliest flower of the vale!
Refrain
Their lady they name thee,
Their mistress proclaim thee,
Ah, grant that thy children on earth be as true
as long as the bowers
are radiant with flowers,
as long as the azure shall keep its bright hue
Refrain
Sing gaily in chorus;
the bright angels o'er us
re-echo the strains we begin upon earth;
their harps are repeating
the notes of our greeting,
for Mary herself is the cause of our mirth
