Dear friends, Happy Easter!
What a different and not so welcome experience for all of us as we have been in isolation, away from one another in order to help one another. Personally, it just dawned on me that I won’t be going to my brother’s house Easter Sunday where I will enjoy the company of my mother, brothers, sister-in-law's and nieces and nephews. I won’t be having an argument with anyone over something silly! I won’t be having some nice wine and a great dinner.I won’t be sitting around afterwards in that family glow of just enjoying each other’s presence.
So it is tough to say, “Happy Easter!” I am sure for many of you it is the same reality of not being able to enjoy each other’s presence and celebrate your regular family traditions. On the other hand, to think of all those impacted by this terrible virus, those who are presently suffering, those who have died, those who have lost loved ones and have not had the opportunity to mourn. Yikes, my feelings and nostalgia are absolutely nothing compared to such pain and grief!
Yet still we say, "Happy Easter!" Why? Because we join with those earliest followers of Christ who came to the empty tomb and were not sure what all this was about. We join Mary Magdeline, Peter and John and we wonder what is happening. As we do so, the Lord draws into the power that flows from his resurrection. It is the power of love and life. It is the power that makes us able to put up with anything the world throws our way. It is the power that reminds us this is what the Lord came to do for us, to save us from death. It is the resurrection power that overcomes darkness and death of any kind.
My friends may the power that flows from the resurrection of Jesus Christ overwhelm you and enrich you with a new spirit especially in these terrible days. Christ is risen, indeed he is risen!
Happy Easter! God bless you and your families!
