As we continue our journey through Lent, the Church invites us once again into the grace‑filled work of conversion—a turning of the heart back to God, who never tires of seeking us, calling us, and welcoming us home. Lent is a sacred invitation to allow God to transform us from within, so that our lives more clearly reflect the love of Christ.
One of the most powerful ways we experience this transformation is through the Sacrament of Penance. In Confession, we encounter the mercy of Jesus in a personal and life‑changing way. He restores what is wounded, strengthens what is weak, and renews our desire to follow Him with greater freedom and joy. Lent is the perfect time to rediscover this sacrament and to let God’s mercy reshape our hearts.
Just yesterday on March 7th, our second graders in our religious education program received their First Reconciliation, and their example offers us a gentle but profound inspiration. With simple faith, open hearts, and genuine trust in God’s love, they approached the sacrament with a joy that reminds us of what Confession is truly about: meeting Jesus, who forgives, heals, and delights in welcoming us back.
May their witness encourage each of us to consider making time for Confession during these Lenten weeks. Whether it has been a few months or many years, the Lord is ready to meet you with tenderness and mercy.
Let us walk together toward Easter with renewed hearts, confident that God’s grace is at work in us and in our parish community.

This Wednesday, March 11th, Father Thumma celebrates
his 40th Anniversary of Priesthood Ordination!
On behalf of the parish, we congratulate him and thank him for his faithful service and dedicated prayerful ministry here at Immaculate Heart of Mary.

All Girl Scouts in the parish are invited to join us for the IHM Girl Scout Mass on Sunday, March 8th at the 9AM Mass.
Girls will gather in uniform at 8:45AM in the lower Church and will process in and sit together. Girl Scouts who are interested can volunteer to carry flags, read and bring up the gifts. Following Mass, there will be light refreshments in the lower Church. The cost is $10 per family to cover food. While families will sign up individually, troops should submit ONE check/Venmo (@Jessica-Leto-1) for all attending from their troop. ALL are welcome regardless of faith or service unit. Lenten Practice of Fasting and Abstinence
Reminder: Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence for all Catholics.
The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding upon all members of the Catholic Church from age 14 onwards.

For members of the Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal.
Don't forget! Good Friday is an obligatory day of fasting and abstinence. If possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the "paschal fast" to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily his Resurrection.

Friends, today we read the magnificent story from John’s Gospel about the woman at the well. The image of thirst is used throughout the Bible to speak of the human longing for God.
At the height of the heat of the day, Jesus asks a Samaritan woman for a drink of water. We are on very holy ground, for the whole of salvation is summed up here: our thirst for God meets God’s even more dramatic thirst for us. Augustine picked up on this in his commentary on the passage: “Jesus was thirsty for the woman’s faith.”

At first, of course, the woman is put off. How could this Jewish man be asking me for a drink? Translate this into spiritual language: How could almighty God be thirsty for my faith and my attention?
Jesus’ answer is magnificent: “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again; but whoever drinks the water I shall give will never thirst.” We are built for union with God, and therefore we thirst for God with an infinite desire. What Jesus offers her is the life of grace, the divine life, God’s own self. That’s the only energy that can ever satisfy our infinite longing.

IHM Bible Discussion Group Update LENT 2026
Please join us Tuesday evenings at 7PM in the lower Church to pray the Sacred Scriptures. Beginning in March we will reflect on II Corinthians and will discuss a chapter each Tuesday through June 2026. If you are unavailable Tuesday evenings please take advantage of the at home option that allows you to reflect on the Word of God with your family at your convenience, just sign up for the weekly email with questions on that week’s chapter. Even the most seasoned Bible student will find the occasional gem they previously missed. St. Paul’s letters are the origin of much Catholic doctrine and how we are to practice our faith with perseverance and trust.

Order of Christian Initiation of Adults: The OCIA (formerly RCIA) is the process by which we receive adults and children of elementary school age or older who wish to enter the Catholic Church.
Get Involved! Various organizations at IHM provide an opportunity for our parishioners to contribute their talents for the good of others.

Our Lady of Good Counsel Guild Day of Reconciliation: Please join us for a day of peaceful reflection. Inspiring talks will be given by Father John Vigilanti. Mass will be celebrated and Confessions will be available. A light breakfast will be served upon arrival and a delicious lunch will be served after Mass.
