SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Dear Parishioners of Immaculate Heart of Mary,
I write this weekend with a brief update on our recent bankruptcy filing. It has now been just over a month since the filing, and throughout this time we have been working closely with legal and financial professionals to ensure that all requirements are met responsibly and in full compliance with the process. While the proceedings are still ongoing, the initial stages have progressed as expected, and I want to reassure you that parish life continues as normal. Our ministries, liturgies, school activities, and daily operations remain steady and uninterrupted.
As a parish, we are especially grateful for the ongoing financial support you have continued to offer during this period. Your generosity has provided meaningful stability and has allowed us to meet our obligations without affecting the regular rhythm of our church and school.
This has undoubtedly been a challenging time, but the understanding, patience, and encouragement we have received from you—the parishioners of Immaculate Heart of Mary—have been a profound source of strength. Your support has helped us move forward with confidence and hope. The parish leadership remains committed to transparency throughout this process and will continue to keep you updated as things progress.
Thank you once again for your unwavering support and for strengthening the spirit of faith and unity that defines our parish community. As I shared on December 8th, we once again entrust our parish, our families, and all our present challenges to our Blessed Mother. Through her loving intercession, may we persevere so that these current difficulties may be swiftly brought to a just resolution.

Due to the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday:
- The Parish Office will be CLOSED on Monday, January 19th
- On Monday, January 19th Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 AM followed by a Holy Hour with the Miraculous Medal Novena and Rosary.
- No 6:45AM Mass is scheduled and no other times of Adoration will be offered for the day.
Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children
From the instant of his or her conception, God loves each human life. This life must be respected and protected, and we Catholics have affirmed the moral evil of abortion since the very first century (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2271).
Abortion ends the life of a child, offends God, and wounds every woman and man involved. There have been over 60,000,000 abortions in the United States since 1973 codified its national law with Roe v. Wade. Even with the overturning of Roe v. Wade, there is still much to be done to ensure the complete, legal protection of unborn children and to heal the wounds caused by abortion. Today we are called to offer prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life for every man and woman from the moment of their existence.

Friends, in our Gospel today, John the Baptist gives witness to the role of the Holy Spirit in Jesus’ baptism.
Baptism is the moment when the Holy Spirit draws us out of this fallen world and into a new world. And with this in mind, we can understand the relationship between Baptism and the other sacraments. Baptism is birth in the spiritual order, the beginning of a properly spiritual life. The other sacraments represent specifications of that life.

For instance, a living thing needs to be nourished. This is the role that the Eucharist plays. But do you see why only baptized people can receive the Eucharist? If you’re not alive, there is no point in feeding you.

IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY UPCOMING EVENTS
From IHM Religious Education:
The children in the 3 Mary’s class enjoyed a special visit to the House of Prayer this past Monday. They spent time with Sr. Nancy and Sr. Rose, admired their spectacular Christmas village and beautiful decorations, and visited the chapel within the house. It was a wonderful learning experience and a meaningful opportunity for the children to grow in faith and appreciation for this special place within our parish community.
The IHM High School of Religion (HSOR) welcomes all high school students to our weekly gatherings on Wednesdays from 7:30- 9:00PM in the lower Church Hall. We offer a fun and relaxing faith community of service projects, Prayer & Pizza, Game Nights, Sacraments, lively discussions and Open Gym.
