- Parish Picnic - Last Sunday’s parish picnic was a wonderful success! It was a joyful afternoon, and we were blessed to have so many of you join us. On behalf of the parish, I extend heartfelt thanks to those who made it possible — especially Camille and John Roche, Paul Ansaro, Tom Roche, Mary Rausch, Geri and Dan Gerardi, Lou Mancini, Emmanuel Louros, Brian Kelly, Brian Bandsma, Patrick, Maria, Nicholas, and Joseph Pilla. Special thanks also to our Parish Council members, Mrs. Tracy Keelin and Mrs. Laura Covais.
- Celebrating a Special Anniversary - Did you know that last Sunday marked the 50th anniversary of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton’s canonization? We join Sister Nancy and Sister Rose in celebrating this important milestone for the Sisters of Charity.
- St. Patrick’s Cathedral Mural Dedication - On Wednesday, September 17th, Cardinal Dolan unveiled a monumental new mural at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. He will formally dedicate the artwork during Mass on Sunday, September 21st. I will be attending the ceremony, so I may not be present after Masses at IHM this Sunday.
- A Nation in Mourning - In more somber news, our nation was shaken last week by the tragic assassination of Charles Kirk. We join with faithful across the country in praying for the repose of his soul, comfort for his grieving family, and healing for our nation.
- Campus Security Updates - In light of recent events, I want to update you on our ongoing security review. This week, IHM School successfully applied for the New York State security grant, following a full building assessment conducted by the Scarsdale Police Department. We are now reviewing the report to prioritize recommended updates. We also hope to submit a grant application for the church in the coming weeks. As changes begin to take place across our campus, please know they are part of our continued commitment to safety. We will keep you informed as progress continues.

God our Father, giver of life, we entrust the United States of America to your loving care. You are the rock on which this nation was founded. You alone are the true source of our cherished rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Reclaim this land for your glory and dwell among your people.
Send your Spirit to touch the hearts of our nation’s leaders. Open their minds to the great worth of human life and the responsibilities that accompany human freedom. Remind your people that true happiness is rooted in seeking and doing your will.
Through the intercession of Mary Immaculate, patroness of our land, grant us the courage to reject the “culture of death.” Lead us into a new millennium of life. We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
New Parish Memorial Opportunities
Our parish is pleased to offer new ways for you to honor a living or deceased loved one or to remember a special intention. These memorials will be listed in our weekly bulletin, and we invite all parishioners to keep these intentions in their prayers.
For the remainder of the 2025 calendar year, we invite you to reserve a weekly Memorial by contacting or visiting the Rectory Office. Memorials for 2026 will be available when the Mass Intention Book opens.

Lighting a candle for an intention is a wonderful tradition in our church. You will now be able to sponsor the seven-day candle used in the Sanctuary Lamp hanging near the tabernacle. Remembrance begins on Sunday and ends on Saturday of your scheduled week.

Our parish is blessed to have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament daily in our chapel. You now can sponsor the two lighted candles that burn daily on the Altar. Remembrance begins on Monday and ends on Friday of your scheduled week.

Central to our celebration of the Eucharist, the bread and wine offered daily can be memorialized in remembrance of a loved one living or deceased. Remembrance begins on Sunday and ends on Saturday of your scheduled week.

Friends, today’s Gospel focuses on prudence. Luke gives us the parable of the dishonest steward, who seeks the favor of his master’s debtors by reducing what they owed him. And the master even “commended that dishonest steward for acting prudently.”
In the Middle Ages, prudence was called “the queen of the virtues” because it was the virtue that enabled one to do the right thing in a particular situation. Prudence is a feel for the moral situation, something like the feel a quarterback has for the playing field, or a politician for the voters in his district.
Courage, justice, and temperance are wonderful virtues, but without prudence, they are blind and finally useless. For a person can be as courageous as possible, but if he doesn’t know when, where, and how to play out his courage, that virtue is useless.

Religious Education Celebrates Catechetical Sunday
Our Religious Education program joyfully celebrated Catechetical Sunday on September 14th with a beautiful Family Mass. A heartfelt thank-you to Father Stephen for making the celebration so meaningful. During the homily, Father Stephen invited all the children up to the altar and taught them the powerful message of “3:16.” A special blessing for our catechists followed, commissioning them for the year ahead. After Mass, families enjoyed a wonderful gathering where students had the chance to meet their catechists. We are excited for a fabulous year of growing together in faith!

The Ursuline School of New Rochelle's annual Cereal Effect Food Drive has begun! Each fresh, unopened box of cereal donated will be delivered to the HOPE Soup Kitchen of New Rochelle to support those in need. Please help us reach our goal of 2,000 boxes of cereal! Cereal box donations can be dropped off in the collection bin at the parish starting Sunday, September 14th, until Sunday, October 5th at 12:00 PM. We're counting on the support of Immaculate Heart of Mary's parish community to make this year's Cereal Effect drive a success, and we thank all of the parishioners who have helped our drive grow through the years!
HSOR WELCOME BACK NIGHT
The IHM High School of Religion (HSOR) will hold a Welcome Back Night for new and returning students this Wednesday, September 24th at 7:30PM in the Lower Church Hall. HSOR welcomes all high school students to our weekly gatherings on Wednesdays from 7:30- 9:00PM. We offer a fun and relaxing faith community of service projects, Prayer & Pizza, Game Nites, Christmas Party, Sacraments, lively discussions, Open Gym, Tee Shirt Giveaway and guest speakers.

IHM Centering Prayer Group
The Centering Prayer Group will resume meeting on Wednesday, October 1st. The Centering Prayer Group meets on Wednesdays at 10:00AM in the Church Library. Newcomers are always welcome. The format includes: 20 minutes of Centering Prayer (a silent prayer form in the Christian contemplative tradition in which we seek to open our minds and hearts to the Divine Life within), Lectio Divina (a prayerful reading of Scripture) and a brief discussion. 2025 Public Square Rosary Rally
You are invited to the 2025 Public Square Rosary Rally on Saturday, October 25th at 12:00 noon. Will take place in the North Parking lot of IHM Church in Scarsdale, in front of the statue of Our Lady. This year as we pray Our Lady’s Rosary and other prayers in her honor, we invoke her blessings on marriage and the family and on our country and the world, and especially for Peace. This Rally is one of 23,000 rosary rallies, organized by America Needs Fatima, that will take place all over the United States. Please make an effort to attend. 40 Days for Life is a life-saving prayer campaign that will take place throughout our Archdiocese starting on September 24 and concluding November 2. 40 Days for Life is a peaceful initiative consisting of 40 days of prayer and fasting, peaceful vigil at abortion facilities, and educational outreach with the goal of protecting mothers and their children from abortion. - IHM School of Community: Members of the ecclesial movement Communion and Liberation (CL) invite parishioners of IHM to join us for our weekly meetings of School of Community. We meet because we understand that our Christian education must continually be renewed and is understood more deeply in companionship with others. We focus on the texts of Father Luigi Giussani, founder of Communion and Liberation. Our weekly meetings are Wednesdays from 7-8PM in the Rectory Conference Room. Becoming Catholic & Catholics completing their Sacraments: The OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults - formerly RCIA) is a process of initiation into the Catholic Community of Faith for persons who are experiencing a conversion in their lives and seeking either Christian baptism in the Catholic Church or full Communion with the Catholic Church and completion of the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. Religious Education: On the day of your child's/children's Baptism, the Church pledged to you, the parents, our assistance in raising them in the practice of the faith to keep God's commandments as Jesus taught us, by loving God and our neighbor. Here at Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Religious Education Program is part of this integral formation in the faith that would include daily prayer at home, family participation in Sunday Mass (and on Holy Days of Obligation), periodic Confession, and the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy flowing out from your dinner table. The goal is to come to know Jesus in and through the Church, to know, understand and be able to explain our Catholic faith, and to live the life of Jesus through faith, hope and charity. - Catholic Widows and Widowers of Yonkers Annual Communion Breakfast will be held on Sunday, September 21st. - Catholic Social Widows and Widowers Group: We meet monthly, usually the fourth Monday of the Month at Church of St. Pius (91 Secor Road, Scarsdale) to honor our deceased spouses with a Mass at 5:30PM in the small chapel of the main Church, followed by a social meeting with refreshments. Our next Mass is Monday, September 22nd On September 21st, we are getting together for lunch at Sergios in Valhalla. We welcome Widows and Widowers from all parishes. - Join the Little Sisters of the Poor for “Dinner by the Bite!” celebrating their 20th year at Jeanne Jugan Residence on Schurz Avenue. Their most important fundraiser of the year, it will be held at Beach Point Club in Mamaroneck on October 19th from 6-9PM. All proceeds will benefit the elderly residents of their home in the Bronx. - Healing After Abortion: Do you know someone who is carrying the grief of a past abortion? There is always hope. The pain and sorrow of abortion does not need to endure for a lifetime. - Local Volunteer Opportunity: Newly opened White Plains Hospital Physician Associates of Scarsdale is looking for weekly volunteers to assist with escorting and directing patients within our 70,000-square-foot multi-specialty outpatient center. In October 2025, WPHPA of Scarsdale will bring together more than 40 physician experts across nearly 20 medical specialties, advanced imaging and diagnostic testing all under one roof.
