Last Sunday, September 7, Pope Leo XIV canonized Saint Carlo Acutis and Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati before a joyful crowd in St. Peter’s Square. These two remarkable young Italians — one a 20th-century university student devoted to the poor, the other a 21st-century teenager who used technology to share his love for the Eucharist — now stand before us as shining examples of holiness in everyday life.
- Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati (1901–1925) was known as the“Man of the Beatitudes”for his deep faith, love of the poor, and joyful spirit. An avid mountaineer and Lay Dominican, he lived his motto“Verso l’alto”(“To the heights”) by striving for spiritual and moral excellence in all things.
- Saint Carlo Acutis (1991–2006), often called“God’s Influencer”, was a gifted young man who created a website documenting Eucharistic miracles around the world. His devotion to daily Mass, the Rosary, and service to others continues to inspire young people globally.
In his homily, Pope Leo XIV encouraged the faithful — especially the young — to follow their example: “Saints Pier Giorgio Frassati and Carlo Acutis are an invitation to all of us not to squander our lives, but to direct them upwards and make them masterpieces”.
Let us give thanks for these new saints and ask for their intercession, that we too may grow in love for Christ and live our faith with joy and courage. Saint Carlo Acutis and Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati, pray for us!

Our parish is pleased to offer new ways for you to honor a living or deceased loved one or to remember a special intention. These memorials will be listed in our weekly bulletin, and we invite all parishioners to keep these intentions in their prayers.
For the remainder of the 2025 calendar year, we invite you to reserve a weekly Memorial by contacting or visiting the Rectory Office. Memorials for 2026 will be available when the Mass Intention Book opens.
Weekly Sanctuary Lamp in Church - $25.00
Lighting a candle for an intention is a wonderful tradition in our church. You will now be able to sponsor the seven-day candle used in the Sanctuary Lamp hanging near the tabernacle. Remembrance begins on Sunday and ends on Saturday of your scheduled week.

Sunday, September 14 | Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross | John 3:13–17
Friends, today we celebrate the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. How strange this feast would have sounded to someone in the ancient world! The triumph of the cross! It would have been analogous to someone speaking today of the triumph of the electric chair or the exaltation of the noose.
The cross terrified people in Greco-Roman times, and that was the point. The cross was state-sponsored terrorism, a form of capital punishment reserved for those who had in the most egregious ways undermined the authority of the Roman state.
So why are we celebrating the triumph of the cross? There is only one possible explanation, and that is the Resurrection of Jesus from the dead. All the attempts to soft-pedal and explain away the Resurrection are ruled out by this feast. If Jesus was a victim of that terrible cross tout court, then we should all go home.
Once they had taken in the experience of the Resurrection, the first Christians turned with rapt attention to the cross, convinced that in it they would find something decisive. Somehow, in the strange providence of God, that cross was ingredient in the very process by which God would save the world.

The Ursuline School of New Rochelle's annual Cereal Effect Food Drive has begun! Each fresh, unopened box of cereal donated will be delivered to the HOPE Soup Kitchen of New Rochelle to support those in need. Please help us reach our goal of 2,000 boxes of cereal! Cereal box donations can be dropped off in the collection bin at the parish starting Sunday, September 14th, until Sunday, October 5th at 12:00 PM. We're counting on the support of Immaculate Heart of Mary's parish community to make this year's Cereal Effect drive a success, and we thank all of the parishioners who have helped our drive grow through the years!
IHM CYO BASKETBALL
Registration for the 2025-26 CYO basketball season is OPEN and on our website, IHMBASKETBALL.ORG. CYO Basketball is open to boys and girls in grades 3-8. Players must be registered members of the IHM parish or students of the IHM school. Registered members of the parish MUST be signed up for the school of religion, otherwise they will be considered non parishioners and be held to the same rules that non parishioners follow, which include higher costs and non guaranteed spots on each team.

The IHM Bible Discussion Group is resuming its study of Sacred Scripture starting Tuesday, September 16th.
Our new Pastor, Rev. Stephen Ries, will celebrate a Divine Liturgy of the Holy Spirit in our Church at 6:30PM Tuesday September 16th and all parishioners are invited to join us. After Mass our group will convene in the lower church for our discussion.
We will begin with St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians before examining St. James' Letter and the rest of the NT Epistles in chronological order. Coffee and dessert are available and our meetings end about 8:30PM.

We are looking for more volunteers to cook for the HOPE Community Supper Program. The need is greater than ever. Cooking is done at home and delivered to the Church, it is then picked up and delivered to HOPE Community Services in New Rochelle (www.hopecommunityservices.org).

The format includes: 20 minutes of Centering Prayer (a silent prayer form in the Christian contemplative tradition in which we seek to open our minds and hearts to the Divine Life within), Lectio Divina (a prayerful reading of Scripture) and a brief discussion. 2025 Public Square Rosary Rally
You are invited to the 2025 Public Square Rosary Rally on Saturday, October 25th 12:00 noon. Will take place in the North Parking lot of IHM Church in Scarsdale, in front of the statue of Our Lady. This year as we pray Our Lady’s Rosary and other prayers in her honor, we invoke her blessings on marriage and the family and on our country and the world, and especially for Peace. This Rally is one of 23,000 rosary rallies, organized by America Needs Fatima, that will take place all over the United States. Please make an effort to attend. - IHM School of Community: Members of the ecclesial movement Communion and Liberation (CL) invite parishioners of IHM to join us for our weekly meetings of School of Community. We meet because we understand that our Christian education must continually be renewed and is understood more deeply in companionship with others. We focus on the texts of Father Luigi Giussani, founder of Communion and Liberation. Our weekly meetings are Wednesdays from 7-8PM in the Rectory Conference Room. Becoming Catholic & Catholics completing their Sacraments: The OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults - formerly RCIA) is a process of initiation into the Catholic Community of Faith for persons who are experiencing a conversion in their lives and seeking either Christian baptism in the Catholic Church or full Communion with the Catholic Church and completion of the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. Religious Education: On the day of your child's/children's Baptism, the Church pledged to you, the parents, our assistance in raising them in the practice of the faith to keep God's commandments as Jesus taught us, by loving God and our neighbor. Here at Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Religious Education Program is part of this integral formation in the faith that would include daily prayer at home, family participation in Sunday Mass (and on Holy Days of Obligation), periodic Confession, and the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy flowing out from your dinner table. The goal is to come to know Jesus in and through the Church, to know, understand and be able to explain our Catholic faith, and to live the life of Jesus through faith, hope and charity.
