A big welcome back to our school children and everyone who has been away during these summer months! We’re glad to see you again at Immaculate Heart of Mary!
Did you know that our parish has been uniquely blessed to offer Eucharistic Adoration in our Marian Chapel for decades? Dedicated to praying for vocations to the priesthood, this sacred space has inspired countless parishioners and visitors alike. Whether you come seeking clarity, offering thanksgiving, or simply longing to be near the Lord, Adoration provides a quiet refuge to reconnect with God and deepen your spiritual life.
A Holy Hour is a peaceful time to rest in the presence of Christ, lifting our prayers in silence and reverence. Our parish currently offers Eucharistic Adoration during the following hours:
- Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays: 7:15 AM – 8:00 PM
- Tuesdays and Thursdays: 7:15 AM – 1:00 PM
We invite all parishioners to consider committing to a weekly Holy Hour. To help manage our schedule, we use an online sign-up system for committed adorers. If you choose to sign up, we ask that you commit to a full hour each week and if necessary, notify fellow adorers or find a substitute if you’re unable to attend. This helps ensure that our Lord is never left alone in the chapel. Please see our website for all relevant information.
As more adorers sign up, we hope to expand our Adoration hours and offer even more opportunities for prayer. Whether you’re returning or joining for the first time, we welcome you to be part of this beautiful ministry.

As we begin this new school year at Immaculate Heart of Mary School, I write to you with a heart full of gratitude. Thank you for your continued support, your trust in our mission, and your partnership in nurturing the children of our community in both faith and learning.
A new school year always brings with it a sense of renewal and anticipation. While the classrooms fill with eager students and dedicated teachers, we are reminded that education is a shared journey—one made possible by your belief in what we do and your support in so many ways.
I’d like to take a moment to extend a special word of thanks to Father Stephen. His presence, support, and willingness to learn the unique rhythms and joys of our school community during his transition in August have been a gift. We are grateful for his leadership and his desire to walk alongside our students, families, and staff in the months and years to come.
As you walk the parish campus, I invite you to take a moment to enjoy the Learning Lawn—a quiet, open space created for learning, prayerful thought, a place to relax, or simply to be still and enjoy God’s presence in nature.

National Grandparents Day Sunday - September 7, 2025
Our grandparents play a huge role in our lives. They are at the top of our family trees. They provide us with guidance and wisdom, and a lot of us have fond memories of bedtime stories and family occasions with our grandparents. Grandparent’s Day provides us with the perfect opportunity to honor our grandmothers and grandfathers and say thank you! Take an extra moment to appreciate all the joy and wisdom that grandparents bring to our lives.

Friends, in our Gospel today, the Lord offers one of the greatest, most “slap you in the face” challenges he ever offered: “If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother . . . and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.”
There is the great spiritual principle that undergirds the entire Gospel: detachment. The heart of the spiritual life is to love God and then to love everything else for the sake of God. But we sinners, as St. Augustine said, fall into the trap of loving the creature and forgetting the Creator. That’s when we get off the rails.
We treat something less than God as God—and trouble ensues. And this is why Jesus tells his fair-weather fans that they have a very stark choice to make. Jesus must be loved first and last, and everything else in their lives has to find its meaning in relation to him.
In typical Semitic fashion, he makes this point through a stark exaggeration: “Unless you hate your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters . . .” Well yes, hate them in the measure that they have become gods to you. For precisely in that measure are they dangerous.

IHM CYO BASKETBALL
Registration for the 2025-26 CYO basketball season is OPEN and on our website, IHMBASKETBALL.ORG. CYO Basketball is open to boys and girls in grades 3-8. Players must be registered members of the IHM parish or students of the IHM school. Registered members of the parish MUST be signed up for the school of religion, otherwise they will be considered non parishioners and be held to the same rules that non parishioners follow, which include higher costs and non guaranteed spots on each team.

You are cordially invited to attend the Town of Eastchester’s Annual September 11th Memorial Service. The service will be held on Thursday, September 11th, 2025 beginning at 8:35AM in front of the Eastchester Town Hall located at 40 Mill Road. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be moved inside and capacity will be limited.
We hope you can join us for a brief service as we reflect on and never forget the horrific events of that tragic day twenty-four years ago and remember all of the lives that were lost.
Choir Returns to 10:30AM Sunday Mass: The adult choir is open to all high school students and adults — no music-reading experience required. If you have questions about this ministry, please feel free to see me after any Mass.
Special Concert – Messiah: Mark your calendars! On Friday, December 12, our parish is honored to once again host the Modus Operandi Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Justin Bischof, performing Handel’s Messiah. For those who have not yet experienced one of these concerts, it is a rare opportunity to hear a full professional orchestra perform one of the world’s greatest masterpieces — right here in our church. I will join the ensemble on both harpsichord and organ for the evening. Tickets will be available soon, with half-price admission for students.
Support Our Music Ministry: We are able to present concerts like Messiah — and welcome our brass quintet and professional singers at Christmas and Easter — thanks to your generosity. We hope to continue offering great choral and orchestral works for years to come. The IHM Bible Discussion Group is resuming its study of Sacred Scripture starting Tuesday, September 16th.
Our new Pastor, Rev. Stephen Ries, will celebrate a Divine Liturgy of the Holy Spirit in our Church at 6:30PM Tuesday September 16th and all parishioners are invited to join us. After Mass our group will convene in the lower church for our discussion.
We will begin with St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians before examining St. James' Letter and the rest of the NT Epistles in chronological order. Coffee and dessert are available and our meetings end about 8:30PM.

- IHM School of Community: Members of the ecclesial movement Communion and Liberation (CL) invite parishioners of IHM to join us for our weekly meetings of School of Community. We meet because we understand that our Christian education must continually be renewed and is understood more deeply in companionship with others. We focus on the texts of Father Luigi Giussani, founder of Communion and Liberation. Our weekly meetings are Wednesdays from 7-8PM in the Rectory Conference Room. Becoming Catholic & Catholics completing their Sacraments: The OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults - formerly RCIA) is a process of initiation into the Catholic Community of Faith for persons who are experiencing a conversion in their lives and seeking either Christian baptism in the Catholic Church or full Communion with the Catholic Church and completion of the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. Religious Education: On the day of your child's/children's Baptism, the Church pledged to you, the parents, our assistance in raising them in the practice of the faith to keep God's commandments as Jesus taught us, by loving God and our neighbor. Here at Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Religious Education Program is part of this integral formation in the faith that would include daily prayer at home, family participation in Sunday Mass (and on Holy Days of Obligation), periodic Confession, and the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy flowing out from your dinner table. The goal is to come to know Jesus in and through the Church, to know, understand and be able to explain our Catholic faith, and to live the life of Jesus through faith, hope and charity. For over 50 years, we have been preparing couples for the Sacrament of Matrimony and giving them the tools for a healthy and successful marriage.
