As we celebrate Labor Day this weekend, we give thanks for the dignity of work and for all those whose daily efforts — seen and unseen — help build up our families, our parish, and our wider community.
We also extend our prayers and best wishes to all students, teachers, and school staff who are about to begin a new academic year. Whether you're heading off to kindergarten or college, teaching in a classroom, or supporting students behind the scenes, know that your parish family is cheering you on and praying for your success.
To ask for God's intercession, we invite every student to bring their backpacks to Mass next weekend for a special backpack blessing. There will even be coffee and donuts after Sunday's Masses hosted by the parish council!
May this day of rest be a moment of renewal and gratitude for the gifts God has entrusted to each of us and may God bless you and your loved ones this Labor Day and throughout the school year ahead.

Friends, our Gospel today is the famous passage from Luke’s Gospel dealing with honor at a banquet. Jesus has been invited to the home of a prominent person, one of the “leading Pharisees,” and he notices how people jockey carefully for position, status, prominence.
Who will notice me? Who can I impress? And Jesus puts his finger on the most desperate scenario for an egotist. Trying as hard as he can to be noticed, he gets noticed but for all the wrong reasons! His egotistic games backfire dreadfully, as everyone sees him reduced to embarrassment. So what’s the solution? Stop playing the game. Take the lowest place on purpose. Opt out.

IHM CYO BASKETBALL
Registration for the 2025-26 CYO basketball season will open Tuesday, September 2nd on our website, IHMBASKETBALL.ORG. CYO Basketball is open to boys and girls in grades 3-8. Players must be registered members of the IHM parish or students of the IHM school. Registered members of the parish MUST be signed up for the school of religion, otherwise they will be considered non parishioners and be held to the same rules that non parishioners follow, which include higher costs and non guaranteed spots on each team.

Choir Returns to 10:30AM Sunday Mass: This September, our parish choir joyfully returns to the 10:30AM Sunday Mass. Rehearsals begin on Tuesday, September 2 at 7:00PM, and we invite anyone with a heart for praising God in song to join us for the upcoming season. The adult choir is open to all high school students and adults — no music-reading experience required. If you have questions about this ministry, please feel free to see me after any Mass.
Special Concert – Messiah: Mark your calendars! On Friday, December 12, our parish is honored to once again host the Modus Operandi Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Justin Bischof, performing Handel’s Messiah. For those who have not yet experienced one of these concerts, it is a rare opportunity to hear a full professional orchestra perform one of the world’s greatest masterpieces — right here in our church. I will join the ensemble on both harpsichord and organ for the evening. Tickets will be available soon, with half-price admission for students.
Support Our Music Ministry: We are able to present concerts like Messiah — and welcome our brass quintet and professional singers at Christmas and Easter — thanks to your generosity. We hope to continue offering great choral and orchestral works for years to come. You are cordially invited to attend the Town of Eastchester’s Annual September 11th Memorial Service. The service will be held on Thursday, September 11th, 2025 beginning at 8:35AM in front of the Eastchester Town Hall located at 40 Mill Road. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be moved inside and capacity will be limited.
We hope you can join us for a brief service as we reflect on and never forget the horrific events of that tragic day twenty-four years ago and remember all of the lives that were lost.

- Men's sneakers sizes 9 thru 13;
- Women's sneakers sizes 7 thru 9;
- Men's tee and golf shirts, especially large and XL;

- IHM Centering Prayer Group: The Centering Prayer Group meets on Wednesdays at 10:00AM in the Church Library. Newcomers are always welcome. Meetings last around 45-60 minutes. The format includes: 20 minutes of Centering Prayer (a silent prayer form in the Christian contemplative tradition in which we seek to open our minds and hearts to the Divine Life within), Lectio Divina (a prayerful reading of Scripture) and a brief discussion. Becoming Catholic & Catholics completing their Sacraments: The OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults - formerly RCIA) is a process of initiation into the Catholic Community of Faith for persons who are experiencing a conversion in their lives and seeking either Christian baptism in the Catholic Church or full Communion with the Catholic Church and completion of the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. Here at Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Religious Education Program is part of this integral formation in the faith that would include daily prayer at home, family participation in Sunday Mass (and on Holy Days of Obligation), periodic Confession, and the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy flowing out from your dinner table.
