My dear friends,
A blessed and joyful Pentecost to you all! Today we celebrate in the Liturgy the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, sent by Jesus and the Father upon the Apostles and the Blessed Virgin Mary, fifty days after the Resurrection. This event continues in our lives through the Sacrament of Confirmation, strengthening us until Christ comes again.
At the 5:30 p.m. Saturday Vigil, we will use the extended Pentecost readings. To keep our time balanced, we will recite the Responsorial Psalms together after the first three readings. The final Psalm will be sung, followed by the Epistle, the Gospel, and a brief homily.
After all weekend Masses, we invite you downstairs to the Lower Church for our parish tag sale, supporting our social ministry programs. Coffee and donuts will be available after the 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday Masses. A heartfelt thank-you to Debbie Bracken, Virginia Holek, Rosemary Roche, Mary Ghiozzi, the Pilla's and many volunteers who made this large-scale effort possible. Please note: there will be no Children’s Liturgy this weekend due to the tag sale.
Next Sunday, we celebrate Sister Nancy’s 85th birthday and bid farewell to Sister Teresa, Seminarian Ian Mendoza, and myself after our time of service here. The celebratory brunch will take place from 12:00–3:00 p.m., adjusted to accommodate the wonderful turnout—now over 350 people! There is no cost to attend, thanks to sponsors who generously covered the first 250 guests. If you would like to sponsor additional attendees, either personally or through your business, please contact Mrs. Tracy Keelan at the school or call the Rectory. She and Mrs. Carolyn Giannelli, IHM Parish Council Chair, are doing an incredible job preparing a wonderful afternoon.
I’m also happy to announce that our Corpus Christi Eucharistic Procession will take place on Saturday, June 21, following the 5:30 p.m. Vigil Mass. We will gather around 6:00–6:15 p.m. on Carmen Road for a 20–30-minute procession on level ground. Thanks to generous benefactors, we now have all the appropriate liturgical items for indoor and outdoor parts of the procession. First Communicants are invited to wear their outfits and participate with special honor, as well as any Scouts and the Knights of Columbus!
This Wednesday, June 11th at 9:00 a.m., our school community will join us for Mass to mark the final school day for our 8th graders before their graduation, and to offer a special time to gather in prayer during this final month of school.
Looking ahead, we expect the replacement of the sanctuary carpet later this July, completing the work we began last year to update our church carpets with the Renew and Rebuild donations. Additionally, our pipe organ will undergo a proper deep cleaning, its first in over 25 years—long overdue and necessary for its preservation and function.
This weekend’s Mass schedule is as follows:

What is the Parish Council?
The Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Council serves as a consultative body of the parish whose responsibility is to advise and assist the pastor in matters relating to the parish. This includes promoting lay participation in the activities of the parish, evaluating the goals and needs of the parish, developing and recommending ways to address those needs, and finally developing and maintaining a two-way communication between the Council and the larger Parish community. Council members will also be expected to take a leadership role in the various Parish Council events as well as in the particular area of Parish life they are interested in or involved in already.

IHM Jubilee Parish Pilgrimage to Italy
October 9 - 18, 2025
The itinerary features six nights in Rome and two nights in Assisi, with a day-trip to Loreto built in as well. Daily Mass – the cornerstone of each day – will be complemented by a rich Catholic touring program designed to bring the pilgrims face to face with the great saints, martyrs, miracles and cultural heritage of Roman Catholicism. Highlights include St. Peter’s Basilica, the Papal Basilicas, the Catacombs, the Roman Forum, the Pantheon, the Papal Audience in St. Peter’s Square and many incredible saints, churches, basilicas and holy sites throughout Italy.
Roundtrip airfare (see FAQ section below for more information) and beautiful four-star hotels have been arranged. Friends, in today’s Gospel, on the evening after his Resurrection, the Lord appears to his disciples and greets them, saying “Peace be with you.”
According to the Gospel accounts, the risen Jesus typically did two things: he showed his wounds and he pronounced a word of peace. The wounds of Jesus are a continual and salutary reminder of our sin. The Author of life appeared in our midst and we killed him, and this gives the lie to any attempt at self-justification or exculpation.
But the risen Lord never leaves us in guilt; instead, he speaks the word “Shalom,” peace. This is the peace that the world cannot give, for it is the Shalom that comes from the heart of God.
In his Letter to the Romans, Paul said, “I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” How does Paul know this? He knows it because we killed God, and God returned in forgiving love. He knows it because the enemies of Israel have been defeated.

IHM Library Summer Loaning Day
The IHM Library Summer Loaning Day is June 14th before and after the Vigil Liturgy and Sunday, June 15th after the 7:30AM Liturgy and before and after all the other Masses. Tables will be set up outside with plenty of children’s books available for summer use as well as biblical, theology and spiritual literature for all. The weather is predicted to be in the 80’s with a little cloud cover to block the intense sun and refreshments will be provided for family members so others can browse through our collection of books.
A similar weekend in September will be arranged for the return of borrowed books, which can also be returned to the Rectory as well. Visit the Library Sunday to see the complete collection of books available.

IHM annual Baby Bottle Drive to support those in crisis pregnancies began Mother's Day weekend and runs through Father's Day. Join us for a Baby Bottle Drive to support Gianna's House Pregnancy Care Center in Brewster. Here's how you can get involved:
- Pick up an adorable baby bottle at the entrances to the church
- Fill it with love by donating spare coins, dollars or donations
- Return your filled bottle to the church on June 15 & 16
Your small act of kindness can make an enormous difference in providing comfort and care to moms who need it most. Gianna’s House is a Catholic pro-life pregnancy resource center helping women experiencing unexpected pregnancies to break down the obstacles they face so they can choose life for their babies. 2025 Public Square Rosary Rally
You are invited to the Public Square Rosary Rally on Saturday, June 28th at 12:00 noon. It will take place in the North Parking lot of IHM Church (by the Grotto). This year as we pray Our Lady’s Rosary and other prayers in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and we invoke her blessings on marriage and the family and for peace in America and in the world. This Rally is one of 20,000 rosary rallies, organized by America Needs Fatima, that will take place all over the United States. Please make an effort to attend. - IHM Centering Prayer Group: The Centering Prayer Group meets on Wednesdays at 10:00AM in the Church Library. Newcomers are always welcome. Meetings last around 45-60 minutes. The format includes: 20 minutes of Centering Prayer (a silent prayer form in the Christian contemplative tradition in which we seek to open our minds and hearts to the Divine Life within), Lectio Divina (a prayerful reading of Scripture) and a brief discussion. - Charismatic Morning of Renewal Meeting at the House of Prayer: This group meets on Thursdays after the 9:00AM parish Mass - Morning Prayer, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with Intercessory Prayer and a discussion of the Scripture Readings for the coming Sunday.

Adult Faith Formation:
- IHM Bible Discussion Group: The IHM Bible Discussion Group has concluded the reading of the Book of Revelation and will resume the Scripture discussion group in the Fall. Meanwhile, there will be preparation for the Sunday Readings at this time for the present time. CLICK HERE for more details, to submit questions, or if you are interested in joining.
- IHM School of Community: This group meets on Wednesdays at 7:00PM in the IHM Rectory Conference Room to look at our daily life and discover who we are as Christians. The text discussed is "The Religious Sense" by Father Luigi Giussani. Becoming Catholic & Catholics completing their Sacraments: The OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults - formerly RCIA) is a process of initiation into the Catholic Community of Faith for persons who are experiencing a conversion in their lives and seeking either Christian baptism in the Catholic Church or full Communion with the Catholic Church and completion of the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. Here at Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Religious Education Program is part of this integral formation in the faith that would include daily prayer at home, family participation in Sunday Mass (and on Holy Days of Obligation), periodic Confession, and the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy flowing out from your dinner table. The goal is to come to know Jesus in and through the Church, to know, understand and be able to explain our Catholic faith, and to live the life of Jesus through faith, hope and charity. Social Ministries: IHM parish is involved in many social ministries, including Midnight Runs into Manhattan to bring food and clothing to the homeless; a food pantry and support of HOPE Community Services; annual Christmas Giving Tree, Baby Shower donations, support of mothers in crisis pregnancies, and bereavement assistance, among other needs.
