My dear friends,
Yesterday we were blessed to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation for our young men and women, conferred by Bishop Bonnici! Through the gift of the Holy Spirit, they are now more closely united with Christ and His Church. My prayer is that they recognize this gift as a call to mission—one that invites them to serve and witness in our parish, in their families and throughout their lives.
This weekend at all Masses, we will recognize our newly Confirmed. During the intercessions, we’ll also offer a special blessing for all recent high school and college graduates. Graduates, feel free to wear your cap and gown as we celebrate this milestone with you.
As we near the end of the school year, I’ve been reflecting on the many transitions ahead—not only for our students, but for our parish as we prepare to welcome a new pastor this summer. Please pray for a smooth and grace-filled transition.
A few important events this week:
Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Lower Church: Join us for a prayerful reflection on next Sunday’s readings.
Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel: Young Adult Rosary (ages 18–25), followed by a Holy Hour at 7:00 p.m., with confessions available. It is a great opportunity to grown in faith and friendships.
Many thanks to Debbie Bracken and all who are preparing for next weekend’s Parish Tag Sale (June 7–8). Your donations support our social ministries—and you may find some treasures, too!
Also next Sunday for the Tag Sale, coffee and doughnuts will be served after the 9:00 and 10:30 a.m. Masses—a great chance to catch up with fellow parishioners.
Looking ahead: On Saturday, June 21st, after the Vigil Mass, we hope to hold a Eucharistic Procession outside. We especially invite our First Communicants to wear their outfits and walk in a special place of honor.
I also want to raise awareness about the “Medical Aid in Dying” bill, recently passed by the NY State Assembly. While currently in the Senate committee, it represents a troubling step toward legalized euthanasia. If it advances, I urge us to contact Senator Shelley B. Mayer or your State Senator to voice our opposition. More information is available at the New York State Catholic Conference website by clicking here.
This weekend, Fr. Thumma will celebrate the 5:30 p.m. Vigil, and Sunday's 7:30 a.m. & 10:30 a.m. Masses. I will celebrate the 9:00 a.m. Family Mass, where the children will remain upstairs for the Gospel and homily, and the 12 noon Mass.
Finally, let’s prepare our hearts for Pentecost next weekend. Pray daily to the Holy Spirit (Come, O Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful!), and don’t forget to wear red as we celebrate the birthday of the Church next week!
A blessed Sunday to you!
