This Sunday marks a joyful moment for the Church as Pope Leo XIV officially begins his Petrine ministry with a 10:00 a.m. Mass in Rome. We continue to celebrate his election and will leave up our festive Vatican colors for one more week.

What is the Parish Council?

A Moment in History, a Journey of Faith
As thousands filled the streets of Rome to bid farewell to Pope Francis, one Westchester priest stood witness — not by design, but by divine providence.
Monsignor Luke M. Sweeney of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Scarsdale was about to go on a pilgrimage with the Archdiocese of New York when the world learned of Pope Francis’ passing.
We spoke with Monsignor Sweeney just before his return to New York to reflect on the powerful experience of honoring a Pope he was blessed to meet three times and to work for five years in the Roman Curia — and what it meant to be present at history’s doorstep.

IHM Jubilee Parish Pilgrimage to Italy
October 9 - 18, 2025
The itinerary features six nights in Rome and two nights in Assisi, with a day-trip to Loreto built in as well. Friends, today’s Gospel instructs us in the way of loving others with God’s love. We find joy in God alone, for our souls have been wired for God. But here’s the trick, and the whole of the Christian life is on display here: God is love. . . . Love is God. God is self-emptying on behalf of the other. But this means, paradoxically, that to have God is to be what God is—and that means giving one’s life away.
Now we see the link between joy and commandments: “I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.” And now we begin to understand the laws, commands, and demands of the Church. All are designed to make us more adept at giving ourselves away. Don’t steal; don’t kill; don’t covet your neighbor’s goods or wife; honor your mother and father; worship God. All of these commands—positive and negative—are meant to awaken and make possible love.
Notice, please, that we are to love with a properly divine love: “I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father.” Radical, radical, radical. Complete, excessive, over-the-top.

- IHM Centering Prayer Group: The Centering Prayer Group meets on Wednesdays at 10:00AM in the Church Library. Newcomers are always welcome. Meetings last around 45-60 minutes. The format includes: 20 minutes of Centering Prayer (a silent prayer form in the Christian contemplative tradition in which we seek to open our minds and hearts to the Divine Life within), Lectio Divina (a prayerful reading of Scripture) and a brief discussion. - Charismatic Morning of Renewal Meeting at the House of Prayer: This group meets on Thursdays after the 9:00AM parish Mass - Morning Prayer, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with Intercessory Prayer and a discussion of the Scripture Readings for the coming Sunday.

- IHM Bible Discussion Group: The IHM Bible Discussion Group has concluded the reading of the Book of Revelation and will resume the Scripture discussion group in the Fall. Becoming Catholic & Catholics completing their Sacraments: The OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults - formerly RCIA) is a process of initiation into the Catholic Community of Faith for persons who are experiencing a conversion in their lives and seeking either Christian baptism in the Catholic Church or full Communion with the Catholic Church and completion of the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. Religious Education: On the day of your child's/children's Baptism, the Church pledged to you, the parents, our assistance in raising them in the practice of the faith to keep God's commandments as Jesus taught us, by loving God and our neighbor. Here at Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Religious Education Program is part of this integral formation in the faith that would include daily prayer at home, family participation in Sunday Mass (and on Holy Days of Obligation), periodic Confession, and the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy flowing out from your dinner table. GUIDE, Guiding an improved Dementia Experience Model, is a nationwide care navigation program supporting Medicare beneficiaries with a dementia diagnosis and their unpaid caregivers who are typically family members. This no-cost program provides care navigation, assessment, person-oriented care plan, helps people access services like meals, transportation, and home health aides, respite services and education for caregivers, and access to a help line. In keeping with archdiocesan policy regarding sexual abuse of minors, this announcement is published periodically to ensure that our children remain safe and secure.
