This past Thursday brought joyful news for the Church and the world: the election of our new Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV. As Catholics, we were united in prayer and anticipation as the white smoke rose and the words “Habemus Papam!” rang out. We now turn our prayers to support Pope Leo as he begins his ministry as Vicar of Christ. His inaugural Mass is set for Sunday, May 18th.
While my own service at the Holy See and at the Office for Bishops ended before the appointment of Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost as Prefect, I had the pleasure of meeting him during two visits back over the years to catch up with former colleagues. The future Pope welcomed me warmly to the morning coffee break and I recall him as gracious, humble, and genuinely kind. May God bless and guide him!
Today we also celebrate the second round of First Holy Communions! May God grant us good weather. We invite all children receiving the sacrament—whether this weekend or last—to wear their First Communion outfits to Mass this weekend. At each Sunday (Saturday Vigil) liturgy a Marian Crowning will take place during the offertory. After the Creed, First Communicants should gather at the church entrance before the offertory to assist with presenting the gifts and floral crown for Our Lady. At the end of Mass, they’ll be invited forward so we may honor them as a parish.
A heartfelt thank you to all who supported our IHM Giving Day yesterday. It was a wonderful day of generosity, capped off with a beautiful gathering at J.C. Fogarty’s in Bronxville to celebrate the support of our parish school. Thank you for your continued support of our parish mission!
This evening, we welcome back the IHM School Class of 1975 as they join us for Mass and a reception at the school. We’re grateful to have you home again—welcome!
We also celebrate Mother’s Day weekend, giving thanks for all the mothers in our lives, both living and deceased. As a sign of our love and appreciation, roses will be available for all mothers at Mass this weekend.

This month marks the 1700th anniversary of the Nicene Creed for the Catholic, Orthodox and ancient Oriental Christian Churches—a perfect time to reflect more deeply on what we profess each Sunday.
Also available at the doors are baby bottles to support the Gianna Center in Brewster. Their new mobile ultrasound unit, which many of you saw during its visit, is now actively serving women in crisis pregnancies. Your generosity makes a real difference.

What is the Parish Council?
The Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Council serves as a consultative body of the parish whose responsibility is to advise and assist the pastor in matters relating to the parish. This includes promoting lay participation in the activities of the parish, evaluating the goals and needs of the parish, developing and recommending ways to address those needs, and finally developing and maintaining a two-way communication between the Council and the larger Parish community. Council members will also be expected to take a leadership role in the various Parish Council events as well as in the particular area of Parish life they are interested in or involved in already.

With the excitement of the election of a new Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, who hails from Chicago, went to Villanova, served as a missionary in Peru and led the Office for Bishops at the Holy See: together with Fr. Thumma, Seminarian Ian Mendoza and Sister Nancy, Sister Rose and Sister Theresa all all at IHM Parish, School and Religious Education, we pray for grace for the new Vicar of Christ as well as blessings upon the Church on earth!
On this Mother's Day, let us thank God for the gift of our Mothers. For all of our wonderful Mothers, on behalf of our parish council, please take a rose at the front of the church, in honor of Mother's Day

Honor Your Mother (and all Mothers!)
May is a month where we're called to pause and especially say, "Thank you!" for the steadfast, patient, and powerful love of our mothers. Be it with flowers, brunch, or just quality time with her, let's make an extra-special effort to give honor to the woman who brought us into life itself!
May is also a time when we're called to give special honor to Mary, for by her "yes!" she became "the Mother of God," Christ himself. She is also given to us all, by Christ on the Cross to his disciple John, as a symbolic offering of Mary to be the mother of all humanity.

Sunday, May 11, 2025 | Fourth Sunday of Easter| John 10:27–30
Friends, our Gospel reading today is extremely short, but it is packed with theological and spiritual significance. We hear first of a voice: “My sheep hear my voice.” How wonderful and strange that Christianity is not a set of ideas. It’s not a philosophy or an ideology. It’s a relationship with someone who has a voice. The first disciples were privileged to hear the voice of the historical Jesus, its very particular tonality and texture.
But we hear his voice too, in our own way, when we hear the Scriptures proclaimed at Mass. Mind you, we don’t just read the Bible; we hear the Bible. We hear the voice of Jesus too when the bishops and the popes speak. We can also hear the voice of Jesus in our conscience, which Newman called “the aboriginal vicar of Christ in the soul.”
We can hear the voice of Jesus in good spiritual friends as well, in those people who comfort us and challenge us and keep calling us to higher ideals and encouraging us when we fall. We listen to Jesus because he is leading us to a renewed and transformed life on high with God.

Gianna’s House is a Catholic pro-life pregnancy resource center helping women experiencing unexpected pregnancies to break down the obstacles they face so they can choose life for their babies. - We are looking for more volunteers to cook for the HOPE Community Supper Program. The need is greater than ever. Cooking is done at home and delivered to the Church, it is then picked up and delivered to HOPE Community Services in New Rochelle (www.hopecommunityservices.org).

Golden Wedding Jubilee Mass
Couples celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary anytime during 2025 are invited to attend the Golden Wedding Jubilee Mass with Cardinal Dolan at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Sunday, June 1st at 2:30PM. Each couple may bring up to four (4) additional guests. Pre-registration is required. All who wish to attend must contact your parish secretary to register. The closing date to register for the Mass is Monday, May 12th at 5:00PM.
The IHM High School of Religion (HSOR) welcomes all high school students every Wednesday from 7:30-9:00PM in the Lower Church Hall.

- IHM Centering Prayer Group: The Centering Prayer Group meets on Wednesdays at 10:00AM in the Church Library. Newcomers are always welcome. Meetings last around 45-60 minutes. The format includes: 20 minutes of Centering Prayer (a silent prayer form in the Christian contemplative tradition in which we seek to open our minds and hearts to the Divine Life within), Lectio Divina (a prayerful reading of Scripture) and a brief discussion. - Charismatic Morning of Renewal Meeting at the House of Prayer: This group meets on Thursdays after the 9:00AM parish Mass - Morning Prayer, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with Intercessory Prayer and a discussion of the Scripture Readings for the coming Sunday.

Adult Faith Formation:
- IHM Bible Discussion Group: The IHM Bible Discussion Group is reading the Book of Revelation on Tuesday evenings at 7:00PM in the lower church, ending at 8:30PM. We discuss two chapters from the Apocalypse of John every Tuesday until we finish the 22 chapters May 13th. Refreshments are served for the convenience of the participants. - IHM School of Community: This group meets on Wednesdays at 7:00PM in the IHM Rectory Conference Room to look at our daily life and discover who we are as Christians. Becoming Catholic & Catholics completing their Sacraments: The OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults - formerly RCIA) is a process of initiation into the Catholic Community of Faith for persons who are experiencing a conversion in their lives and seeking either Christian baptism in the Catholic Church or full Communion with the Catholic Church and completion of the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. Religious Education: On the day of your child's/children's Baptism, the Church pledged to you, the parents, our assistance in raising them in the practice of the faith to keep God's commandments as Jesus taught us, by loving God and our neighbor. Here at Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Religious Education Program is part of this integral formation in the faith that would include daily prayer at home, family participation in Sunday Mass (and on Holy Days of Obligation), periodic Confession, and the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy flowing out from your dinner table. - An evening of Prayer for couples suffering infertility and miscarriage:-Friday, May 16th from 6:30-8:00PM at the Church of St. Catherine of Siena (411 E. 68th Street - between 1st & York Ave). Mass will be followed by the veneration of the relics of St. Gianna, a reception, and the opportunity to meet privately with physicians and practitioners from the Gianna Center who specialize in assisting couples with infertility.
- FESTIVAL/BAZAR 2025: Holy Rosary Church (170 Bradhurst Ave, Hawthorne, NY) - (914) 769-0030- is holding their annual bazaar/festival on May 29, 30, 31 (with a rain date of June 1st) from 6:00pm until 11:00pm. There will be rides, music, Pot-of-Gold raffle, food and much more. All are welcome!

- Do you know a senior with Alzheimer’s or other dementia, or a child with autism or developmental disability, who wanders/elopes and gets lost? If so, help them sign up for PROJECT LIFESAVER. This program uses radio-frequency technology to find individuals who are lost and return them home safely. It is funded and operated by the Westchester Departments of Public Safety and Mental Health, NYS Office for Aging, and US Dept of Health and Human Services. - ArchCare Dementia Care Connect (GUIDE) No-cost support for those with Dementia and their Caregivers. GUIDE, Guiding an improved Dementia Experience Model, is a nationwide care navigation program supporting Medicare beneficiaries with a dementia diagnosis and their unpaid caregivers who are typically family members. This no-cost program provides care navigation, assessment, person-oriented care plan, helps people access services like meals, transportation, and home health aides, respite services and education for caregivers, and access to a help line.
