This morning, the St. Veronica’s Guild hosts a Lenten Morning of Reflection for all women of the parish in the lower church, led by Sister Nancy Keller, S.C., following the 8:30 a.m. Mass celebrated by Fr. Thumma.
At St. Joseph’s Seminary, there is a Vocation Day for young men in grades 8-12 with Cardinal Dolan. Our seminarian, Ian Mendoza, will assist, and his father will serve as deacon for the Mass, in attendance.
This evening, our parish will take part in the Midnight Run, rescheduled from February, offering food and essentials to those in need in the City. Thank you to so many groups of volunteers who donate clothing, toiletries and food, sort and prepare and then take the run down!
Tomorrow (Sunday), a mobile unit from Gianna’s House will be parked outside the rectory garages. Funded in part by our Spring Baby Bottle Drive, this unit supports women and families in crisis pregnancies—please take a tour or visit GiannasHouseinc.org.

Looking ahead to Holy Week, on Holy Monday, the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered throughout the Archdiocese. Confessions will be available in the afternoon and evening from Montauk to Saugerties.
We will also participate in the Chrism Mass on Holy Tuesday, where the Holy Oils are blessed, and priests renew our priestly promises. If you’d like to attend and take the bus, please contact the Rectory.
I hope to offer a Lenten Evening of Recollection based on our Holy Father's last encyclical on the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Dilexit Nos - "He Loved Us"). It will be scheduled for Thursday, April 10th from 7:00-8:45 p.m.
Yesterday was spent at our neighboring parish of Immaculate Conception in Tuckahoe. The morning Funeral Mass for a beloved parishioner of the Archdiocese of New York who had served on the Parish Mission Team decades ago, was a singer and harpist, a Principal in Catholic Schools and Director of Religious Education. I have always been moved by the music and singing of Katy Feeney ever since I met her at my summer parish as a seminarian in 1999 (St. Theresa's in Pelham Bay in the Bronx) and she was kind enough to share her music and voice at my First Mass reception. In the evening was the 29th Memorial Mass for Eastchester Police Officer Michael Frey, who was killed by a sniper in 1996. How fitting that, in remembering the sacrifice of his life for others, we enfold his life and memory in the Sacrifice of Jesus in the Holy Mass.
This past Thursday, we were blessed with a Young Adult Evening of Rosary, Adoration, Confession, and fellowship. It is wonderful to see young people deepening their faith and friendships together.
I hope the photo below from last night’s neon dance brings a smile to your face! A special thanks to all who made it a fun event. When I complimented the face painters, one of them said, “You need a mustache!”—a great reminder that joy and laughter are part of parish life!

This Tuesday, March 25th, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Annunciation, when Mary’s “Fiat - Yes” to the Archangel Gabriel brought salvation into the world. The Angelus is a beautiful prayer to commemorate this moment and remind us of God’s presence in our daily lives.
I will celebrate the 5:30 p.m. Vigil Mass this evening, as well as the 7:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Masses on Sunday. Fr. Thumma will celebrate the 9:00 a.m. Family Mass and 12:00 noon Mass.

What is the Parish Council?

Saint Veronica's Guild Day of Recollection at IHM
All women of the parish are invited to the Saint Veronica's Guild Day of Recollection here at IHM on Saturday, March 22nd, from 8:30AM (8:30AM Mass) - 1:00PM. Sister Nancy Kellar will be offering the reflections. The cost is $15 (lunch included).
The generosity of the IHM family has been overwhelming and, as a result, the recent Midnight Runs have been a wonderful success!! Our next Run will be on Saturday, March 22nd and we are targeting the following to replenish our inventory:
- Men's jeans especially waist sizes 30-34 and all lengths
- Men's sweatpants especially large and extra large
- Men's sneakers sizes 10 thru 13

Gianna’s House Provides Care No Matter Where
Gianna’s House Pregnancy Care Center has launched a medical mobile unit, Tilma Care! They will be at the Immaculate Heart of Mary after the Masses on Sunday, March 23rd and parked in front of the rectory garages.
Tilma Care travels to the Bronx, Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess Counties to reach abortion vulnerable women offering free pregnancy tests, free ultrasounds, and free options counseling to support women and save lives. Join them after any Mass on Sunday for a tour and help to raise awareness and partners for this mission.

Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of the fig tree that the owner cursed because it bore no fruit. On a deeper level, we may understand it to mean that the Lord expects us to bear spiritual fruit.
The fruit of the Spirit is the universal, all-embracing consequence of the Spirit’s presence in us. All people who live in the Spirit should manifest these qualities. The word “fruit” is especially good in this context.
In Psalm 1 we find this comparison: “They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither.” The Spirit is this stream; when we are planted near it, we blossom.
Well, what are these fruits of the Holy Spirit? In the fifth chapter of Galatians, Paul enumerates them: “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” When discerning whether the Spirit is living in you, in determining whether you are walking the right path, these are wonderful criteria.

Season of Lent
Dear friends in the Lord:
On the Fourth Sunday of Lent, Laetare Sunday, March 30, in all our parishes and in churches throughout the country, we will be collecting your offering for the Catholic Relief Services. With your support, you serve Jesus in those who are poor and vulnerable in the most suffering communities in our world. It is always one of our most successful collections.
When you give, you help fill the bellies of young children; you help prevent trafficking and provide welcome kits for survivors; your donations help mothers and babies around the world receive nutritional care and health exams; refugees find safety and receive emergency assistance and trauma counseling; and farmers learn innovative ways to plant and grow crops despite drought or disease.
For more than 75 years, CRS has been providing expertise and compassion to the very poorest of our brothers and sisters in more than 100 countries. Your generosity to the Catholic Relief Services facilitates much-needed support and makes a difference for so many around the globe. As you would agree, this is a most worthy Lenten exercise. The IHM CYO Track spring program runs from March 21st through June 6th. Practices will be held on Fridays from 4-5PM. The March 21st and 28th practice will be in the IHM south lot. Beginning April 4th, all practices will be at Hyatt Field. Meets will take place on weekends, dates TBD. Get those running shoes out and enjoy the outdoors! The program cost is $60 per child. Dear IHM,
My name is Rachel and I am a coordinator at HOPE. I am looking for volunteers to cook/serve breakfast on Wednesday and Thursday mornings to be served at 9:00AM. Volunteers should plan to be here 8:00-9:30AM. They will be making pancakes or preparing frozen waffles. We have special programming running for the homeless clients Wednesday and Thursday mornings starting this week 3/19 for three months through 6/19 and will be offering them a special breakfast on those days. We will need four volunteers a day. If any volunteers who would like to sign up for the following dates please let me know!

Pope Francis has asked our parish to support the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which helps Christians in the Holy Land, where they are now less than 2% of the population. Your support is essential to help the Church minister in parishes, provide Catholic schools, and offer religious education.
The Pontifical Good Friday Collection also helps to preserve the sacred shrines of Christianity, including in Jerusalem, Nazareth, and Bethlehem, to name only a few. The pandemic had hit Christians in the Holy Land particularly hard. Most of them depend on pilgrimages for work. The war made their situation even more dire. In these times of crisis, the Pontifical Good Friday Collection is necessary to meet the basic needs of the People of God still living in this land and to maintain a Christian presence where the Church was born. - Charismatic Morning of Renewal Meeting at the House of Prayer: This group meets on Thursdays after the 9:00AM parish Mass - Morning Prayer, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with Intercessory Prayer and a discussion of the Scripture Readings for the coming Sunday.

Adult Faith Formation:
- IHM Bible Discussion Group: The IHM Bible Discussion Group is reading the Book of Revelation. This may be a good Lenten practice on Tuesday evenings at 7:00PM in the lower church, ending at 8:30PM. We discuss two chapters from the Apocalypse of John every Tuesday through Lent and most of the Easter season until we finish the 22 chapters in May. - IHM School of Community: This group meets on Wednesdays at 7:00PM in the IHM Rectory Conference Room to look at our daily life and discover who we are as Christians. The text discussed is "The Religious Sense" by Father Luigi Giussani. If you are interested in attending via Zoom, please contact the Rectory and ask to be put in contact with Carolyn of School of Community.
Becoming Catholic & Catholics completing their Sacraments: The OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults - formerly RCIA) is a process of initiation into the Catholic Community of Faith for persons who are experiencing a conversion in their lives and seeking either Christian baptism in the Catholic Church or full Communion with the Catholic Church and completion of the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. Religious Education: On the day of your child's/children's Baptism, the Church pledged to you, the parents, our assistance in raising them in the practice of the faith to keep God's commandments as Jesus taught us, by loving God and our neighbor. Here at Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Religious Education Program is part of this integral formation in the faith that would include daily prayer at home, family participation in Sunday Mass (and on Holy Days of Obligation), periodic Confession, and the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy flowing out from your dinner table. The goal is to come to know Jesus in and through the Church, to know, understand and be able to explain our Catholic faith, and to live the life of Jesus through faith, hope and charity. School: Rooted in the mission Jesus Christ gave to the Church to go out to the world to preach, to sanctify and to shepherd souls, IHM School seeks to work with parents in forming their children in the faith and educating them for life in the world by faithfully and charitable teaching Jesus Christ and the two-fold command to love God and our neighbor, to immerse the students in the sacramental life of the Church so that they may know of God's presence in their lives and come to unite their lives for the glory of God, and to help lead and guide them on their journey through life to heaven by building up the virtues our faith has received from the Apostles. Social Ministries: IHM parish is involved in many social ministries, including Midnight Runs into Manhattan to bring food and clothing to the homeless; a food pantry and support of HOPE Community Services; annual Christmas Giving Tree, Baby Shower donations, support of mothers in crisis pregnancies, and bereavement assistance, among other needs. - Capuchin Family Ministries 2025 Summer Experiences registrations are open! All programs are for rising 9th graders through adults. Summer Outreach Week (SOW), a service retreat in Hudson Valley, June 27- July 3; Capuchin Appalachian Mission (CAM), our 32nd mission trip to Harlan, KY, July 12 - 20; and Catholic Literature & Arts Summer Program (CLASP), a Catholic theater & literature arts camp, Wappingers Falls, August 3 - 8.
