Thank you for your prayers during the alumni trip to Rome! Although not everything we requested was granted, God's providence led to the best possible outcomes and experiences!
This past week, we joyfully celebrated Catholic Schools Week with wonderful events honoring our students, teachers, and families. A video recap is below - please take a look! This weekend, we celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, which replaces the usual Sunday Mass and Scripture readings. As Jesus, the Light of the World, was presented in the Temple by Blessed Mary and St. Joseph 40 days after His birth, we will bless candles at all Masses, including the Saturday Vigil. Bring any candles from home for this blessing. May I ask for 6-12 individuals to accompany the procession at the beginning of each Mass with lighted candles that we will provide? Please check in with a priest before Mass and gather in the sacristy.
Since Monday is the Feast of St. Blaise, a general Blessing of Throats will be offered at all Masses this weekend and then individually at Monday's Masses, in the school and in the Religious Education classes.

We also recognize Consecrated life on this feast, expressing gratitude for Sister Nancy, Sister Rose, Sister Theresa, the (Irish) Christian Brothers from Iona, and the Ursuline, Salesian, and Franciscan communities in our area!
This Wednesday at 7:30 PM, I am scheduled to celebrate the Young Adult Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral - please encourage our young people to attend this wonderful monthly gathering that has been going on since well before 2010!
Thursday, February 6th, is Cardinal Dolan's 75th birthday! I invite you to offer a spiritual bouquet for His Eminence and his intentions be it of your Holy Communion this Sunday, a Rosary (or a decade) this week, an hour of Adoration or a part of that time. I will inform the Cardinal of our prayers and arrange a gift to accompany it.
We are collecting donations for California wildfire victims and will provide details next week on how to contribute financially.
This Sunday at 9 AM, we celebrate Scout Sunday with our boys of Troop 2 and the affiliated Cub Scout troops! We are grateful to Scoutmaster Brian Bandsma and all the adults who support this vibrant troop.
On Tuesday, February 11th, the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes and the World Day of the Sick, we will offer a 12:30 PM Mass in the main church with the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. Please RSVP if attending.

What is the Parish Council?
The Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Council serves as a consultative body of the parish whose responsibility is to advise and assist the pastor in matters relating to the parish. This includes promoting lay participation in the activities of the parish, evaluating the goals and needs of the parish, developing and recommending ways to address those needs, and finally developing and maintaining a two-way communication between the Council and the larger Parish community. Council members will also be expected to take a leadership role in the various Parish Council events as well as in the particular area of Parish life they are interested in or involved in already.

IHM - where faith and education shape the future
IHM - where faith and education shape the future
IHM Parish Council along with our IHM First Grade girl scout troop will be collecting supplies to send to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul in Los Angeles to aid with the victims of the California wildfires.
We are collecting basic essentials, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, blankets and children's pajamas. Items can be dropped off in the church vestibule through February 9th.
A financial opportunity to contribute will be offered online or by clearly marked envelopes/checks in the regular collection (we have second collections each weekend of February so this will be the best way to go).

Boys in the 5th through 11th grade interested in an Outdoors Scouting Adventure are invited to attend IHM's 9:00AM Family Mass on February 2nd, followed by Troop 2's annual Scout Sunday Breakfast and Court of Honor in the lower Church. Friends, our Gospel today celebrates the Presentation of the Lord in the temple. We are meant to understand that the glory of Yahweh is returning to the temple in the arms of Mary and Joseph, thus fulfilling one of the deepest aspirations of Israel’s people.
Now, there is more to this story than the return of the Lord to his temple. The Son of God, having taken to himself a human nature, is presented to the Father, and thereby the human race is brought back online. This little baby is the reconciliation of divinity and humanity, is the very essence of temple sacrifice.
At the climax of his life, this baby, now come of age, would enter the temple again. This time, he would pass judgment on it and declare his own body as the new temple. A few days later, on the cross, he would perform the final temple sacrifice, offering himself to the Father, even as he bore the sins of the human race.
The Presentation of Jesus in the temple, perfected on the cross, is re-presented every time the Mass is celebrated. The Presentation of the Lord goes on now in our churches, in our temples.

Since the days of St. Peter, he and his successors have shown mercy to the poorest people around the world. The Iona Prep Options Program - Beginning in September 2025
This program is designed to provide high school students with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities the opportunity to receive a Catholic education in an inclusive environment at Iona Prep.
The Options Program will follow a four-year curriculum tailored to the needs of its students. Core subjects such as English, Math, and Life Skills will be taught in a self-contained, small class setting by a special education teacher. Additionally, students will participate in theology, physical education, and lunch alongside their peers in an inclusive setting, supported by peer mentors from Iona Prep. Upon completing the program, students will receive a Skills and Achievement Certificate, preparing them for Life Skills college programs or vocational training.
Applications for the Options Program’s inaugural year will open soon for enrollment in September 2025. Students applying should be between 14 and 15 years old, and if accepted, they will join as freshmen in the Iona Prep Options Program. Please note that the Options Program is a tuition-based program, offering students with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities the opportunity to access a specialized Catholic education tailored to their needs.

Prayer Groups:
- IHM Centering Prayer Group: The Centering Prayer Group meets on Wednesdays at 10:00AM in the Church Library. Newcomers are always welcome. Meetings last around 45-60 minutes. The format includes: 20 minutes of Centering Prayer (a silent prayer form in the Christian contemplative tradition in which we seek to open our minds and hearts to the Divine Life within), Lectio Divina (a prayerful reading of Scripture) and a brief discussion. - Charismatic Morning of Renewal Meeting at the House of Prayer: This group meets on Thursdays after the 9:00AM parish Mass - Morning Prayer, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with Intercessory Prayer and a discussion of the Scripture Readings for the coming Sunday.

Adult Faith Formation:
- IHM Bible Discussion Group: The IHM Bible Discussion Group continues its study of the Old Testament Book of Exodus Tuesday evenings at 7:00PM in the lower church, ending at 8:30PM. We will continue most Tuesdays until late Spring 2025 discussing one or two chapters an evening depending on their length. Refreshments are served for the convenience of the participants. - IHM School of Community: This group meets on Wednesdays at 7:00PM in the IHM Rectory Conference Room to look at our daily life and discover who we are as Christians. Becoming Catholic & Catholics completing their Sacraments: The OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults - formerly RCIA) is a process of initiation into the Catholic Community of Faith for persons who are experiencing a conversion in their lives and seeking either Christian baptism in the Catholic Church or full Communion with the Catholic Church and completion of the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. Religious Education: On the day of your child's/children's Baptism, the Church pledged to you, the parents, our assistance in raising them in the practice of the faith to keep God's commandments as Jesus taught us, by loving God and our neighbor. Here at Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Religious Education Program is part of this integral formation in the faith that would include daily prayer at home, family participation in Sunday Mass (and on Holy Days of Obligation), periodic Confession, and the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy flowing out from your dinner table. - Parents Night Out - Make a date with your sweetheart and leave the kids with us!
