Around the world this Sunday is World Mission Sunday. Being a member of the Mystical Body of Christ on earth means that our horizon of concern is always for the whole Church (purgatory and heaven, too!), particularly in areas where the Gospel is being preached to those who have never heard of Jesus Christ. Usually, that means they need financial support to sustain them as they grow and establish themselves. But this Sunday also reminds us that we are given the Mission (Go forth, the Mass is ended - Go and announce the Gospel - Go in Peace) to live and share our faith and encounter with Jesus Christ in and through the Church with others, because our area of the world desperately needs to rediscover Jesus Christ and the life of God given to us at Baptism.
Do take advantage of the Catholic Book Fair in the school auditorium after all the Masses Saturday and Sunday! More information is below.
Due to a 9:15am Funeral, the Parish Council's Fall Harvest Festival from 11am-1pm (walk-ins are welcome!) and a 2pm wedding, Confessions will only be offered today from now until 9:00am and then again from 4-5pm. I ask you understanding for the change in schedule.
Some work that you may notice around the campus: repair work on the roof of the church vestibule and above the stairs to the choir loft to address significant water infiltration. Also, on the east side of the rectory to address water infiltration in the pastor's living room.
We have wonderful events and opportunities coming up that immediately follow in the calendar. I want to highlight the following; on Saturday, November 2 following the 5:30pm Vigil and Sunday, November 3 following all Sunday Masses, the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick will be offered to all eligible parishioners. While Fr. Thumma and I are available to visit with people in their homes or in the rectory, this may provide a chance for more to make use of this grace. For instance, those who are preparing for surgery, those who are facing a serious illness, those who have chronic illnesses and those who are weighed down by the burden of years.
Since Anointing does involve the forgiveness of sins, if a person needs to get to Confession, we suggest doing so prior to the Anointing.
A reminder that our New York State Bishops have expressed three grave concerns over the ERA Proposition 1 in the State that would enshrine abortion in the State Constitution, allow children to make life-altering medical decisions without parental consent and loosen appropriate age-related restrictions. More information is shortly below.

The Vatican has recently clarified it with our US Catholic Bishops by stating that the obligation does indeed transfer. We will look to add two Masses or so for all to fulfill their obligation.

Ignatius Book Fair after all Masses this Weekend (10/19 & 10/20)

Friends, in today’s Gospel, James and John ask Jesus to place them in high places in his kingdom. They are asking for two of the classic four substitutes for God: wealth, pleasure, power, and honor, specifically for the last two. Power is not, in itself, a bad thing. And the same is true of honor. Thomas Aquinas said that honor is the flag of virtue. It’s a way of signaling to others something that’s worth noticing.
So, what’s the problem? The problem is that they are asking for these two things in the wrong spirit. The ego will want to use power, not for God’s purposes or in service of truth, beauty, and goodness, but for its own aggrandizement and defense. When honor is sought for its own sake or in order to puff up the ego, it becomes dangerous as well.
So what’s the way out? “Whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you will be the slave of all.” When you serve others; when you become the least, you are accessing the power of God and you are seeking the honor of God.

Respect Life Sunday, on October 6th, kicks off Respect Life Month, a time to pray for the protection of all human life. You can join one of the Life Chains, a peaceful and prayerful public witness for an end to abortion that offers a message of mercy and healing for those suffering as a result of abortion. Or you can participate in Rosary Coast to Coast, a movement to ite the nation in praying the Holy Rosary for healing of our country and a return to holiness. Operation Cornerstone - Bringing a little comfort to our troops
Operation Cornerstone will be collecting food items, toiletries and sundries to send to our soldiers who are serving overseas and will not be home for the holidays. We will be partnering with United For The Troops again this year, who will pick up the donations from IHM, they will then package and mail the boxes to the troops. Any monetary donations to help defray the cost of mailing the packages can be left at the rectory.
Suggested donations are:
Food: Pringles (snack size), Trail Mix, instant oatmeal, granola bars, store bought cookies, crackers, power bars, nuts, Slim Jims, Beef Jerky, Pop Tarts, Easy Mac Microwave Cups, ramen noodles, tuna fish, canned chicken, spam, sardines, peanut butter (plastic only), jelly & jam (plastic only), cereals (individual size), chili, stew, pasta, soup, canned fruit (16 oz or smaller), gum & Lifesavers, coffee & filters, hot chocolate packets, tea bags, drink mixes (single serve).

Enjoy hands on experiences like archery, backpacking, canoeing, camping, cooking in the outdoors, hiking, rifle shooting, rock climbing, skiing and whitewater rafting. New Scouts hit the ground running at IHM Troop 2 Scarsdale. There’s no bench or second string in Scouting; everyone joins in the fun and adventure!

- One Nation Under God Prayer Walk - On Saturday October 26th there is going to be a One Nation Under God Prayer Walk on the Rivertowns: St. Matthew in Hastings to St. Teresa in Sleepy Hollow. It will begin at 11:00 AM starting from Immaculate Conception Church in Irvington and finish at Transfiguration Church in Tarrytown. We are coming together, in the Holy Name of Jesus, united in our Catholic faith, not our political preferences. - If you are calling for another person, please ensure his/her permission.
- Our parish will keep the name of a deceased parishioner or loved one for 2 weeks on our bulletin and Sunday Mass lists.
