This electronic bulletin will go out a day early on this Friday morning to inform you that the rectory office will be closed today (Friday), Saturday and Monday of this Labor Day Weekend. As usual, there will only be a 9am Mass on Labor Day, September 2nd, followed by a Holy Hour with Novena, Rosary and Confessions.
Asbestos abatement has concluded in the church and, thankfully, there was never any issue with airborne asbestos particles based on the daily air monitoring. Since Wednesday, the carpet installation is gearing up with a leveling solution being placed over the concrete aisle floors (the non-asbestos tiles will remain under the pews). Therefore, Mass and Adoration will continue to be held in the school auditorium until next Tuesday, September 3rd, when it will then need to be prepared for faculty meetings on Wednesday and the opening of school on Thursday! It is my intention to then move Adoration to the Marian Chapel on Tuesday at 10am for the regular Adoration schedule (until 2pm that day), and to have the 6:45 am and 9:00 am daily Masses beginning that Wednesday located in the Chapel even if installation and eventual cleaning is still taking place. We will have a better sense of things next week.
We wish Father Raja well this weekend after his summer visit to IHM! He will be returning to India on Wednesday. I am grateful for his priestly fraternity and may he come again to visit next year!
We welcome Seminarian Ian Mendoza back after a summer with family and on Dunwoodie workshops and retreat! Ian will continue his pastoral year through next July 2025.
September 1st begins a new fiscal year for the parish. Each month with our accountant, and periodically with IHM's Finance Council, cost analysis of the church and school expenses takes place.
To the end of financial sustainability, the position of parish secretary will become part-time this new fiscal year. I am grateful and happy that Mrs. Joanne Tormey will continue as parish secretary! She will be available beginning September 3rd in the rectory from Monday through Thursday (except holidays) 9:00am until 1:00pm. (The rectory will now close on Fridays at 5:00 pm.)
Due to attrition in the school, the responsibilities of two positions will be reapportioned to others this school year.
In the Religious Education Program we worked to readjust the fees and include costs of the police crossing guard for safety in order to cover as much of the expenses of the Program as possible.
All the summer (and into the Fall) work that is taking place on our parish campus is coming out of restricted funds (some of the Renew and Rebuild funds for the work inside and outside the church, and most of the Capital Improvement Account that is the Second Collection for Repair and Maintenance). Your generosity over the years and each year to both restricted funds are bearing good and necessary fruit.
Please be aware of RSVPing for our September 15th Parish Picnic just a few blocks down Carmen Road at Davis Park! I would like to thank Camille Roche for her coordination once again of this great beginning to our parish year!
Be praying and asking around to find who are the people responding to the Lord's grace drawing them into His Church or to complete their sacraments. Information about the RCIA (Order of Christian Initiation for Adults) is below.
This weekend, Fr. Thumma will have the 5:30pm Vigil Mass on Saturday and the 8am Sunday Mass. I will have the 10am and Fr. Raja the 12 noon. After Labor Day IHM will return to our usual Sunday Mass schedule. Please note it in your calendars.

In observance of the Monday Labor Day Holiday:
- The Parish Offices will be Closed on Friday August 30th and will reopen on Tuesday, September 3rd.
- The Daily Mass on this Monday will be offered at 9:00AM, followed by a Holy Hour with the Miraculous Medal Novena, the Rosary and Confessions.

Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus exposes the hypocrisy of the Pharisees, who imposed their interpretation of the Law on the Israelites. Keep in mind that the first Christians and the writers of the first Christian documents were all Jews, or at least people formed by a Jewish thought world. They made sense of Jesus in terms of what were, to them, the Scriptures.
Jesus himself was an observant Jew, and the themes and images of the Holy Scriptures were elemental for him. And he presented himself as the one who would not undermine the Law and the prophets but fulfill them.
All of those social and religious conventions that had effectively divided Israel, he sought to overcome and to expose as fraudulent. He reached out to everyone: rich and poor, healthy and sick, saints and sinners. And he embodied the obedience of Israel: “I came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me”; “My food is to do the will of the one who sent me.”

CYO BASKETBALL
Registration for the Winter 2024-25 CYO Basketball season will open on Wednesday September 4th on our website IHMBasketball.org. CYO Basketball is open to boys and girls grades 3-8 that are registered parishioners of IHM Parish or are students of IHM School or the Religious Education Program.
Evaluations will begin the week of October 7th, exact days and times to be determined. Once the teams are assigned, each team will be assigned a date and time for their practice for the entire season and practices will start immediately following evaluations, which should only take a week or two at most.

Invitation to an Adventure of a Lifetime for Boys Aged 11 to 17
Do you like adventure, experiencing the outdoors, learning new skills, and having fun?
IHM Troop 2 Scarsdale Scouts are skilled in first aid, CPR, fire safety, wood tool safety, and the use of maps and compasses. Enjoy hands on experiences like archery, backpacking, canoeing, camping, cooking in the outdoors, hiking, rifle shooting, rock climbing, skiing and whitewater rafting. New Scouts hit the ground running at IHM Troop 2 Scarsdale. There’s no bench or second string in Scouting; everyone joins in the fun and adventure!
We are a scout run troop with adult leader mentors focused on character development, service and leadership growth.

The IHM Bible Discussion Group will begin its study of the Old Testament Book of Exodus on Tuesday evening September 17th at 7:00PM in the lower church. We will read and discuss the first two chapters in Exodus that night ending at 8:30PM.
All parishioners, and anyone they care to invite, are welcome. We often have 20 participants, leading to a lively discussion with many ideas, thoughts and interpretations opening up the Scriptures for a better understanding of its meaning and significance for our lives. We will continue most Tuesdays until late Spring 2025 discussing one or two chapters an evening depending on their length. Refreshments are served for the convenience of the participants. Hope to see many of you there as we grow in Faith together seeking the Wisdom of God.
You are cordially invited to attend the Town of Eastchester’s Annual September 11th Memorial Service. The service will be held on Wednesday, September 11th beginning at 8:35AM in front of the Eastchester Town Hall located at 40 Mill Road. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be moved inside and capacity will be limited.
We hope you can join us for a brief service as we reflect on and never forget the horrific events of that tragic day twenty-three years ago and remember all of the lives that were lost.

Good news, bad news. On our August 17th Run we were able to deliver food, clothing and supplies to nearly a hundred of our less fortunate brothers and sisters. But now the cupboards are bare and we have less than 50 days to restock.
