So Jesus said to them,

My dear friends,
This summer is a particular time of grace to renew our faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and Bread of Life come down from heaven to give us the life and rest of God. He does that through the Eucharist - the Mass. As we long for rest, recreation and the fullness of life these months, may we delve into this 6th chapter of Saint John's Gospel each of these five Sundays for a deeper participation and faith in Jesus as the source of all life and sustenance.

It is wonderful to see Sister Denise Vaccaro, a "homegrown" consecrated religious nun from IHM - an Irish Cistercian - at daily Mass this week as she continues her family visits. An update on the work you see going on at the parish campus:
-the tile removal and asbestos abatement in 2 classrooms and the hallway of the third floor of the school is proceeding. This is from a bathroom flood in June that occurred in the middle of the night. It should be completed this Friday.
-the front entrance to the school building was repaired as well as a step or two of the side of the school near the principal's conference room. Erosion of the mortar underneath the stone slabs necessitated the work.
-scaffolding is up on the southwest corner of the school (Post and Boulevard) to address the leaking gutter and to repoint the stone work in order to stem water infiltration to the basement classroom.
-a tree limb that fell was removed from the House of Prayer's side yard. The tree company is providing me with an evaluation of the trees on parish property since their last report in the summer of 2022 and work in November of that year.
Work that is upcoming (August 12-September 13):
-the replacement of the carpet in the church with the necessary asbestos abatement to address the old tiles now safely sealed under the present floor carpet (know that the red sanctuary carpet will remain at this time). All Masses will be moved into the school auditorium for this two week initial period (Sunday Mass will most likely continue until September 8th). Adoration will probably be from 7:15am to 8:50am between the Masses. That will be confirmed. After the asbestos abatement, it would be my hope, but not necessarily, to have daily Masses in the chapel while the new carpet is being installed. Please be aware that the school does not have ramp or handicapped accessibility for Masses that will be moved there. Livestreaming will be suspended during this time.
-repair work to the roof over the choir loft stairs as well as a leaking part of the roof over the chapel to address water infiltration in both areas.
-interior chimney work in the rectory to address water infiltration and for proper code.
-repair of the side stone entrance to the church (near the chapel) that had water infiltration this past winter, lifting up one of the stone slabs.
There is also more work that we are in the process of finalizing at this time and details will be made available in the future.
At the Sunday Masses August 17/18th IHM, we will welcome Sister Martha Lopez, a religious from the Cabrini community of New York, a missionary and an employee of Catholic Charities in the Archdiocese. Sister will be giving the annual mission appeal, a tradition that goes back to the Acts of the Apostles with Saint Paul, Saint Barnabas and others!
Sunday is also the Feast Day of Saint John Marie Vianney, the patron saint of priests. Click here for some information about his life and ministry.

Sunday, August 4, 2024 | Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time | John 6:24-35
Friends, today’s Gospel comes from the bread of life discourse: “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.” What God has wanted from the beginning is to sit down with his creatures in a fellowship banquet, sharing life and laughter, giving and receiving and giving back again. This is the loop of grace that I’ve often spoken of. The more we receive the divine life, the more we should give it away and thereby get more of it.
Throughout the Old Testament, we find images of the holy banquet. On God’s holy mountain, Isaiah says, there will be good meats and pure, choice wines. And throughout his ministry, Jesus hosts meals to which all are invited. God wants to share his life with us.

The Transfiguration - August 6th
Radiating his glory from the top of Mt. Tabor, Jesus revealed to his closest friends that he was not merely a healer or prophet, but the Son of God Himself. Christ's skin and clothes illuminated, as the prophet Daniel had foretold: "The Ancient One took his throne. His clothing was bright as snow...One like a Son of man coming, on the clouds of heaven" (Daniel 7).
Today's feast celebrates this great event in the life of Christ. We are all called to witness this radiant love God has for his people and return "down the mountain" to share this good news! Jesus is Lord!
May we radiate Your love, O Lord!

We are in need of a co-Catechist for 7th grade on Monday evenings from 5:30-7PM and a 6th grade Catechist on Monday afternoons from 3:45-5:15PM. Please consider becoming a Catechist and assisting in our children’s faith formation.
The generosity of the IHM family has been overwhelming and, as a result, the recent Midnight Runs have been a wonderful success! Our next Run will be in a few weeks and we are targeting the following to replenish our inventory:
- Men's pants waist sizes 30-34 and all lengths; men's and women's sweatpants sized small, medium, large, and extra large; men's sneakers sizes 9 thru 13; women's sneakers sizes 7 thru 9; rain ponchos, all sizes; Travel size shampoo and deodorant.
- Please note that we only distribute gently used or new items. So, as you pull your summer wear forward in your closets, please consider Midnight Run if something doesn't strike your fancy anymore! Even if a donation cannot be used for a Run, we will have a home for it - there is much need in the NY metro area!
One of the easiest but most critical ways to contribute is helping with the food prep before each Run. Anyone who would be interested in that effort please email ihmmidnightrun@gmail.com so we can add your name to the distribution list. We are also seeking new people to join us on the actual Runs, thank you!
Camp Veritas is a weeklong sleep-away camp for Catholic teens ages 12-18. Campers full immersion in the Catholic Faith through Mass. Adoration, engaging talks, praise and worship and team building activities and so much more!
New York dates are as follows:
- August 10-15 at Lake Champion, Glen Spey, NY (10-12 graders only) - $650 per camper
- August 11-17 at Camp Lakota, Wurtsboro, NY (7-9 graders only) - $550 per camper
*Registration will close a week before the beginning of each camp.

IHM CONTINUING EVENTS
On May 9, 2024, the 2025 Jubilee of Hope was announced by Pope Francis. It will run from December 24, 2024 to January 6, 2026. Holy doors will be opened at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, the Cathedral of St. John Lateran, the Papal Basilica of St. Mary Major and the Papal Basilica of St. Paul Outside-the-Walls.
The Holy Father also gave indications that, in all the cathedrals of the world, diocesan bishops would celebrate the Eucharist as a solemn opening of the jubilee year. However, unlike the Jubilee of Mercy of 2016, local dioceses will not have a holy door. The papal bull does encourage local pilgrimages to visit cathedrals and other sacred places where indulgences may be obtained.

- IHM School of Community: This group will return after Labor Day and meets on Wednesdays at 7:00PM in the IHM Rectory Conference Room to look at our daily life and discover who we are as Christians. The text discussed is "The Religious Sense" by Father Luigi Giussani. - On Saturday, August 17th, the Salesians of Don Bosco will be holding the 2024 Rise Up Festival from 1:00PM - 10:00PM (rain or shine). The festival will celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Mother Mary, with Bishop Edmund Whalen of the Archdiocese of New York. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for an open-air concert, worship (Mass and Adoration), games, exhibitions, food for purchase, and the gift shop. The evening ends with fireworks on the upper field. The Marian Shrine is located at 174 Filors Lane, Stony Point, New York.
