Not only do a number of you know Sister and her family, but it is a beautiful moment to celebrate a religious vocation that is fruit of our IHM Parish! I would like to inform you of upcoming construction work that will impact our parish campus:
IHM School (Monday, July 29th – Friday, August 9th):
This past June, a 3rd floor sink malfunction caused a significant overnight leak that flooded the hallway and two classrooms. Under the direction of Archdiocese of New York insurance, attempts to recover the full use of the classrooms and floor was successful in June. Recently, however, the tiles began to buckle in the summer’s heat and will need to be removed and replaced. During the two-week period of 7/29-8/9, the 3rd floor school hallway, as well as the 3rd and 4th grade classrooms, will require asbestos remediation and this notice will be posted around the school. It is my understanding that our insurance is covering the expenses of this work.
During this time the school offices will close and the gym will be unavailable. Please know phone messages and emails will be checked during this time.
IHM Church and Chapel (Monday, August 12-Friday, September 13th)
The 2017 Renew and Rebuild Campaign planned work on both the outside of the church and rectory and the inside of the church, specifically a new carpet and paint job. In 2021 and 2022 the work on the roof, stone and lower church windows took place.
While it is my hope that one day there will be the time and resources for a more comprehensive renovation of our beloved church, beyond the limited scope of the Renew and Rebuild Campaign and the funds raised (i.e. bathrooms on the main floor), it has become especially necessary to replace the red carpet in high traffic areas due to buckling and rippling. It is well past its useful age and could cause a tripping hazard.
Before a carpet is laid down, asbestos removal will need to take place during the first two weeks of the work. Signage of this reality will be posted beginning next week. The asbestos is limited to original floor tile, currently encapsulated below areas of carpet scheduled to be removed.
Daily Mass and Sunday Masses/Confession, therefore, will be moved to the school auditorium. The Adoration schedule will be impacted during this time. There are no weddings scheduled in this timeframe and it is our hope that some Baptisms will be cleared for the chapel during this time. In the unfortunate event of a funeral, I have reached out to a neighboring parish to request the use of their church. After the remediation, while the new carpet is being placed, it would be my hope to utilize the chapel for daily Mass.
Painting the church would require an additional two weeks that we do not have in this window of opportunity.

Sunday, July 28, 2024 | Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time | John 6:1-15
Friends, our Gospel today focuses on St. John’s intense meditation on the meaning of the Eucharist. The tone is set with the familiar story of the feeding of the five thousand, the only miracle story mentioned in each of the four Gospels. This scene deeply affected the first Christians.
Jesus instructs the crowd to recline on the grass. Taking the barley loaves and dried fish, Jesus makes a meal that satisfies the enormous crowd. They are hungry, tired, and worn out from their exertions, and Jesus gives them sustenance for the day.
For Thomas Aquinas, the great metaphor for the Eucharist is sustenance, food for the journey. Baptism defines us, making us sons and daughters of God; Confirmation confirms and deepens this identity; Marriage and Holy Orders seal us in our life’s vocation. These are sacraments offered once at key moments in one’s life.
Then there is the Eucharist, which is daily food, nourishment to get us through the day-to-day. How effective would we be if we never ate, or ate only on special occasions and in a festive environment? Not very. So, in the spiritual life, we must eat and drink or we will not have the strength.

Born in Northern Spain, Ignatius' leg was shattered by a cannonball in 1520. During his recovery, he read stories of the saints and the life of Christ and devoted himself to a life of holiness.
His followers became known as the "Society of Jesus," or "The Jesuits." Ignatius died in 1556 and was declared a saint in 1622. He is the patron of soldiers and educators.

St. Mary's Abbey, Glencairn is the only Cistercian monastery for women in Ireland. The monastery is located in the Blackwater Valley, about three miles upstream from Lismore, County Waterford. At the heart of monastic life is the search for God. They seek God and follow Christ in a life of prayer and community, solitude and simplicity, work and hospitality. They follow the Rule of St. Benedict, an ancient source of monastic wisdom that continues to guide many people in search of an authentic spiritual path in today's world. Today there are 29 sisters in the community at St. Mary's Abbey, Glencairn. Most of the community are from Ireland. There are also sisters from Japan, America, India, the United Kingdom and Uganda.

We are looking for more volunteers to cook for the HOPE Community Supper Program. The need is greater than ever. Cooking is done at home and delivered to the Church, it is then picked up and delivered to HOPE Community Services in New Rochelle (www.hopecommunityservices.org).
- Timing: Held every third Friday, and also the occasional 5th Tuesday of the month. NEXT HOPE SOUP KITCHEN Drop off: Tuesday, August 2nd, by 11:00AM – if you have perishable food and can bring it close to 11:00am, please do so.

IHM Religious Education 2024-2025 Registration is NOW OPEN
On the day of your child's/children's Baptism, the Church pledged to you, the parents, our assistance in raising them in the practice of the faith to keep God's commandments as Jesus taught us, by loving God and our neighbor. Here at Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Religious Education Program is part of this integral formation in the faith that would include daily prayer at home, family participation in Sunday Mass (and on Holy Days of Obligation), periodic Confession, and the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy flowing out from your dinner table.
IHM Religious Education Registration for the 2024-2025 school year for grades Kindergarten through 8th Grade opened on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. Registration, including credit card payment, is completed online and is on a first-come-first-served basis. The final day for regular registration is July 31st. Beginning on August 1st, a late fee of $75 will be imposed on your account.
Returning Families should sign in to www.parishgiving.org to register. You should have received an email to remind you of your username.
New Families, those who did not have a child enrolled in 23-24, must complete a New Family Registration Form to register a child(ren) for 24-25.

The generosity of the IHM family has been overwhelming and, as a result, the recent Midnight Runs have been a wonderful success! Our next Run will be in a few weeks and we are targeting the following to replenish our inventory:
- Men's pants waist sizes 30-34 and all lengths; men's and women's sweatpants sized small, medium, large, and extra large; men's sneakers sizes 9 thru 13; women's sneakers sizes 7 thru 9; rain ponchos, all sizes; Travel size shampoo and deodorant.
- Please note that we only distribute gently used or new items. So, as you pull your summer wear forward in your closets, please consider Midnight Run if something doesn't strike your fancy anymore! Even if a donation cannot be used for a Run, we will have a home for it - there is much need in the NY metro area!
One of the easiest but most critical ways to contribute is helping with the food prep before each Run. Anyone who would be interested in that effort please email ihmmidnightrun@gmail.com so we can add your name to the distribution list. We are also seeking new people to join us on the actual Runs, thank you!
Camp Veritas is a weeklong sleep-away camp for Catholic teens ages 12-18. Campers full immersion in the Catholic Faith through Mass. Adoration, engaging talks, praise and worship and team building activities and so much more!
New York dates are as follows:
- August 10-15 at Lake Champion, Glen Spey, NY (10-12 graders only) - $650 per camper
- August 11-17 at Camp Lakota, Wurtsboro, NY (7-9 graders only) - $550 per camper
*Registration will close a week before the beginning of each camp.

Tens of Thousands Participate in
Historic Eucharistic Procession in Indianapolis
In Downtown Indianapolis on Saturday, thousands of people took part in the mile-long Eucharistic Procession that went from the Convention Center to the Indiana War Memorial.
The procession was led by children who made their First Communion this year.
They were followed by a steady stream of priests, deacons, seminarians, religious men and women, and hundreds of bishops.
The monstrance carrying the Blessed Sacrament was made specially for this event. It was even blessed by Pope Francis at the Vatican.
On Saturday, it carried our Lord though the streets of Indianapolis and up to the Indiana War Memorial for Adoration and Benediction.
You could have heard a pin drop during adoration. The reverence and prayer were real. Many were in tears, moved by the beauty and holiness of the moment.

- Charismatic Morning of Renewal Meeting at the House of Prayer: This group meets on Thursdays after the 9:00AM parish Mass - Morning Prayer, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with Intercessory Prayer and a discussion of the Scripture Readings for the coming Sunday.
- IHM School of Community: this group meets on Wednesdays at 7:00PM in the IHM Rectory Conference Room to look at our daily life and discover who we are as Christians. The text discussed is "The Religious Sense" by Father Luigi Giussani. If you are interested in attending via Zoom, please contact the Rectory and ask to be put in contact with Carolyn of School of Community.
- IHM Bible Discussion Group: The IHM Bible Discussion Group will reconvene after Labor Day to read the Book of Exodus. CLICK HERE for more details, to submit questions, or if you are interested in joining.
- IHM Troop 2 (Boy Scouts): this group welcomes 5th through 8th grade boys interested in outdoor adventure. - IHM Young Adult Group for those in their 20's & 30's: We will plan an IHM gathering at some point.
- Volunteers are needed throughout Westchester County to provide free rides to older adults (age 60+) who reside in Westchester and need help getting to the doctor, shopping mall, friends and family or a number of other activities that require transportation. RideConnect, a service administered by Family Services of Westchester (FSW) with support from Westchester County’s Department of Senior Program and Services (DSPS), is an informational, referral and volunteer based transportation program to provide services to older adults who are no longer driving. To volunteer as a RideConnect driver, individuals must be at least 21 years of age, enjoy working with older adults and have a valid driver’s license. No minimum time commitment is required and volunteers can sign up to drive as little, or as often as their schedule permits. - On Saturday, August 17th, the Salesians of Don Bosco will be holding the 2024 Rise Up Festival from 1:00PM - 10:00PM (rain or shine). The festival will celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Mother Mary, with Bishop Edmund Whalen of the Archdiocese of New York. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for an open-air concert, worship (Mass and Adoration), games, exhibitions, food for purchase, and the gift shop. The evening ends with fireworks on the upper field. The Marian Shrine is located at 174 Filors Lane, Stony Point, New York. - A senior parishioner is looking for an accessible apartment in the area for $1,000 or under. Please reach out to the pastor with any information.
