It will good to be with you this weekend after having spent some time with family and then with a handful of fellow New York priests and over 250 other priest from around the country and beyond at the Saint Paul Center for Biblical Theology Conference offered by Professor Scott Hahn and his collaborators in Wheeling, West Virginia! (Father Thumma was blessed to attend their second of three annual conference in Texas back in April with his priest-relative.)
Thank you to all who continue to financially support the parish over these summer months, even if you are away!. To those who also donated to the Social Ministries Good Will event and to those who helped support the good Pro-Life work of the Gianna's House in Brewster - $5,815.38 was collected from the IHM baby bottle donations from Mother's Day to Father's Day!
To the graduating Eagle Scouts from Troop 2 who have done so much here at IHM (thank you Luis Marquez!) and elsewhere - Congratulations and may God bless and guide you on your journeys!
This weekend I plan to celebrate the 5:30pm Vigil and 10am Sunday Mass, Fr. Raja the 8am Sunday Mass and Fr. Thumma the 12 noon Sunday Mass.
At the end of all Masses a fellow parishioner, Catherine Dwyer, will speak about her upcoming mission to share the Catholic faith on a university campus this academic year and how we may be able to support and partner with her (see immediately below for more information)! I have known FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students) for about 20 years and they are an amazing presence on college campuses!
Our Seminarian Ian Mendoza will finish up this first summer portion of his pastoral year at IHM on Friday, July 19th by offering the reflection at the 9am daily Mass. Ian will plan to be back over Labor Day Weekend to continue his service, learning and experience until next July 2025. Ian, have a great time with family and with the seminary on retreat and at workshops in August!

Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus sends the Twelve on their mission to announce the nearness of the kingdom. I want to say a few things about our embracing our mission and being equipped for it.
What do you need for your mission? You need a keen sense of God as the absolute center of your life. In a word, you require the spiritual gifts of piety and fear of the Lord. I realize that these terms can sound fussy and puritanical, but they are actually naming something strong and essential.
You need fear of the Lord, which does not mean that you are afraid of God. It means that nothing to you is more important than God, that everything in your life centers around and is subordinate to your love for God. And your equipping needs to include piety. That means that you honor God above everything else, that you worship him alone. These spiritual gifts enable you to find true balance; they allow you to know what your life is about.
Equipped with these gifts, you are ready for mission. Having received the fire of the Holy Spirit, you are ready to set the world on fire.

Camp Veritas is a weeklong sleep-away camp for Catholic teens ages 12-18. Campers full immersion in the Catholic Faith through Mass. Adoration, engaging talks, praise and worship and team building activities and so much more!

Troop 2 Scouts: Thank you for your service

Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in Boy Scouts of America. Since its inception in 1911, only four percent of Scouts have earned this rank. IHM Troop 2 Scarsdale has five Eagle Scouts graduating High School this year. On behalf of Troop 2, we congratulate Troop 2 Eagle Scouts (or soon to be) Olin Bradley, Michael Cacioppo, Jake Gherardi, Luis Marquez and Alex Rizk on their graduation from High School and wish them much success as they embark on their next Life Journey.
HOPE Community Soup Kitchen
Needs Your Help
We are looking for more volunteers to cook for the HOPE Community Supper Program. The need is greater than ever. Cooking is done at home and delivered to the Church, it is then picked up and delivered to HOPE Community Services in New Rochelle (www.hopecommunityservices.org).
- Timing: Held every third Friday, and also the occasional 5th Tuesday of the month. NEXT HOPE SOUP KITCHEN Drop off: Friday, July 19th by 11:00AM – if you have perishable food and can bring it close to 11:00am, please do so.
- If cooking is "not your thing" we could use help with shopping for other food items

The generosity of the IHM family has been overwhelming and, as a result, the recent Midnight Runs have been a wonderful success! Our next Run will be in a few weeks and we are targeting the following to replenish our inventory:
- Men's pants waist sizes 30-34 and all lengths; men's and women's sweatpants sized small, medium, large, and extra large; men's sneakers sizes 9 thru 13; women's sneakers sizes 7 thru 9; rain ponchos, all sizes; Travel size shampoo and deodorant.
- Please note that we only distribute gently used or new items. So, as you pull your summer wear forward in your closets, please consider Midnight Run if something doesn't strike your fancy anymore! Even if a donation cannot be used for a Run, we will have a home for it - there is much need in the NY metro area!
One of the easiest but most critical ways to contribute is helping with the food prep before each Run. Anyone who would be interested in that effort please email ihmmidnightrun@gmail.com so we can add your name to the distribution list. We are also seeking new people to join us on the actual Runs, thank you!
IHM Religious Education 2024-2025 Registration is NOW OPEN
On the day of your child's/children's Baptism, the Church pledged to you, the parents, our assistance in raising them in the practice of the faith to keep God's commandments as Jesus taught us, by loving God and our neighbor. Here at Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Religious Education Program is part of this integral formation in the faith that would include daily prayer at home, family participation in Sunday Mass (and on Holy Days of Obligation), periodic Confession, and the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy flowing out from your dinner table.
IHM Religious Education Registration for the 2024-2025 school year for grades Kindergarten through 8th Grade opened on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. Registration, including credit card payment, is completed online and is on a first-come-first-served basis.
Returning Families should sign in to www.parishgiving.org to register. You should have received an email to remind you of your username.
New Families, those who did not have a child enrolled in 23-24, must complete a New Family Registration Form to register a child(ren) for 24-25.

One-Day Pilgrimages in the Archdiocese of New York

THE WORD SHRINE COMES FROM THE LATIN SCRINIUM, which means “box” – because the first Christian shrines were boxes or repositories for the relics of saints. Today, not all Catholic shrines house relics, but all are focal points for prayer and devotion, often to a saint or the Blessed Mother.
A shrine might be a large, “official” pilgrimage destination like the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception of Mary in Washington, D.C., a side altar in a parish church or a local memorial alongside a highway. It might mark the site of a blessed event – a martyrdom, a Marian apparition – or memorialize a tragedy. A shrine is “in general, a holy place,” says the Catholic Dictionary, where people go to pray, meditate, venerate, ask forgiveness and lay their intentions before God and the saints.
There are dozens of shrines in the Archdiocese of New York, including several worthy of a one-day pilgrimage. From the home of the first American-born saint in lower Manhattan to a humble chapel devoted to the memories of unborn and prematurely born infants in Sullivan County, these holy places offer us a chance to be in the presence of the divine without traveling halfway around the world. In a few cases, convenient side trips can deepen the experience of pilgrimage.
If you are “staycationing” this summer, or just have a free day to spend enriching your faith life, pick a shrine and make a pilgrimage. Think of it as a theme park for your soul – not the fleeting adrenaline rush of the roller coaster or the log flume, but the luminous pause at the top of the Ferris wheel that reveals the far horizon and puts the entire world in perspective.

In a onetime convent chapel at St. Mary of the Snow in Ulster County, the Shrine of the Holy Innocents is “dedicated to babies unborn, babies born too soon, infants and children who have gone home to God,” says Deacon Mike Sweeney. “We are a place of dignity and healing.”The modest chapel houses a growing number of plaques dedicated by grieving parents. Visitors can order a plaque for their own departed innocent, or just say a prayer in the presence of the existing plaques and in community with those who have suffered the loss of a child. Masses are offered in the chapel twice during the week, and there is an overnight Eucharistic adoration every Sunday evening.

- IHM School of Community: this group meets on Wednesdays at 7:00PM in the IHM Rectory Conference Room to look at our daily life and discover who we are as Christians. - Health for Life Program (HeLP): Are you 55 or older with chronic conditions? If so, the free Health for Life Program (HeLP) offers you a sensible and enjoyable way to enhance your quality of life by showing you how to manage your chronic health conditions, such as high blood pressure, pain, depression and diabetes. HeLP follows a model developed at Stanford University’s School of Medicine. - The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) offers services to persons age 55+. If you are ready to reenter the workplace, a wide range of jobs are available and the SCSEP Program is eager to assist you in preparing for a job and to direct you to job openings. Mature job seekers learn new skills, update current skills, and obtain skills to find a job. Training programs include computer, customer service, home health aide, and office skills. For more information and eligibility guidelines speak to a SCSEP Peer Counselor at the Urban League of Westchester at (914) 428-5850.
- Volunteers are needed throughout Westchester County to provide free rides to older adults (age 60+) who reside in Westchester and need help getting to the doctor, shopping mall, friends and family or a number of other activities that require transportation. RideConnect, a service administered by Family Services of Westchester (FSW) with support from Westchester County’s Department of Senior Program and Services (DSPS), is an informational, referral and volunteer based transportation program to provide services to older adults who are no longer driving. To volunteer as a RideConnect driver, individuals must be at least 21 years of age, enjoy working with older adults and have a valid driver’s license. No minimum time commitment is required and volunteers can sign up to drive as little, or as often as their schedule permits.
