A blessed Birthday of the Church as we celebrate Pentecost - the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Blessed Mary and the Apostles in the Upper Room where the Last Supper took place. It is customary to wear red to Mass since we are celebrating God the Holy Spirit this weekend.
Thank you to the Parish Council for holding Coffee and Donuts this Sunday after all the Masses!
Join us this Thursday for a unique blessing as IHM welcomes Jesus Real Presence in the National Eucharistic Procession from 1:30-1:45pm in the main church for a brief prayer service and Benediction. The 50 minute procession will be walking from Saint Pius X Church at about 12:40pm to Palmer Avenue to Wilmot Road, then turning onto Boulevard, then Johnson Road to Carman Road. After the stop at IHM, the Procession will go an hour down Route 22 to Immaculate Conception Church in Tuckahoe. May this Procession of Jesus' Presence be a sign of hope for all!
The picture below is certainly a blast from the past! Please pray for my classmates and me as we celebrate our priestly anniversary this Sunday. As the Sacrament of Marriage is the source of grace and blessing in the family, so too the grace of Holy Orders allows us to live as Catholics in our parishes - through it Jesus' forgiveness is bestowed in Confession and Anointing of the Sick, and His Eucharistic Presence is given to us at Mass. Pray that the Lord may stir up future priestly vocations here at IHM!
Deacon Vincent Castaldi, who spent his pastoral year at IHM from 2022-23, will be ordained a priest at Saint Patrick's Cathedral this Saturday, May 25, 2025 at 9am! He invites all parishioners of IHM to join in this special Mass as well as for his "First Mass of Thanksgiving" on Sunday, May 26th at 2pm at Sacred Heart Church in Dobbs Ferry, NY. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Congratulations and Ad multos annos (For many more years)!
Please pray for our young people who will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation this Thursday from Bishop Bonnici. As they complete their Sacraments of Initiation into the Catholic Church through Religious Education, IHM School or the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (adult Confirmation sessions), may they realize the commission to be Jesus' witnesses in the world and to give testimony to His Resurrection by their lives. This will only be possible by rooting themselves in weekly Sunday Mass. Next weekend we will recognize them at the Masses.
This week Mrs. Laura Covais and I will have an opportunity to thank all our Religious Education Catechists on behalf of the parish. Thank you for your commitment, for your dedication to our Catholic Faith and for teaching our parish children this past school year!
To all of our parishioners who are being graduated from college and university this month of May - congratulations!!
This Sunday at the 9am Family Mass we will have an opportunity to pray for and recognize our CYO Volleyball team - the first year of this CYO sport- and they came in 4th in the league!
As was the case two years ago, there were not enough Parish Council nominations to hold an election. After discussing this with the council and then more specifically with a subcommittee, I will be making the appointments taking into consideration those who put their names forward and some others. This should be completed by the end of May.
The Parish Council will take a look at the process for welcoming new members and perhaps revise the bylaws for future years. Stay tuned!
After meeting with the Renew and Rebuild Committee this past week, while some work may be done in the church this summer, the block on weddings for summer 2025 has been removed and sacraments can be scheduled as usual. This will be welcomed news to some!

Sunday, May 19, 2024 | Solemnity of Pentecost| John 20:19-23
Friends, in our Gospel for today, drawn from St. John’s account, Jesus shows his disciples the wounds of his Crucifixion, and then he offers them shalom (peace). It is the juxtaposition of the wounds and the shalom that carries power. The wounds alone would leave us afraid, convinced of our sin but not of a way out. The shalom alone would leave us with cheap grace, a too-easy way out.
And this is precisely why, immediately after uttering that word and showing those wounds, Jesus sends the disciples on a mission of forgiveness: “He breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.’”
The Church receives its essential mission and identity as the bearer of the divine forgiveness. We have been entrusted with speaking the shalom of Jesus to a fallen and hopeless world. But it’s not cheap grace that we share. We participate in Jesus’ mission of showing his wounds as well. The Church refuses to explain sin away or make excuses for it or call it by another name.

Public Square Rosary Rally
You are invited to the 2024 Public Square Rosary Rally on Saturday, May 25th at 12:00 noon. It will take place in the North Parking lot of IHM Church (by the Grotto). This year as we pray Our Lady’s Rosary and other prayers in her honor, we invoke her blessings on marriage and the family and for PEACE in America and in the world. This Rally is one of 20,000 rosary rallies, organized by America Needs Fatima, that will take place all over the United States. Please make an effort to attend. Centering Prayer Group: Our final session before summer break will be on Wednesday, May 29. Meetings will resume in the Fall.
IHM CYO Summer Volleyball Camp
IHM CYO is running a summer Volleyball camp for students in grades 4 to 8 who are parishioners of IHM and/or attend our IHM School.
- Session One will be held from July 22 to July 26 from 4PM to 7PM
- Session Two be held from July 29 to August 2 from 4PM to 7PM
The fee is $155 per session. A Tee shirt is included.
Our next Midnight Run is scheduled for June 8th. Many have answered our call for donations as they start their spring cleaning projects. Especially needed for these next Runs are men’s jeans from waist size 30-42 and all lengths. This is in addition to sneakers, sweatpants, hoodies, backpacks, shorts and T-shirts. All items should be gently used or better. Anyone who is interested in any aspect of Midnight Run—driving, sorting, food prep—please email ihmmidnightrun@gmail.com, thank you!
IHM Religious Education 2024-2025 Registration
To enroll in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Religious Education Program a Family must be a registered Parishioner of IHM Church before the start of the new school season. If you need to register with the Parish or inquire about your IHM Parish Registration/Envelope status, please call the IHM rectory or click here to register.
Online registration for the 2024-2025 school year for children in grades Kindergarten through 8th will open on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 12 noon. (We encourage parents to register children in Kindergarten, but this is optional.) IHM Religious Education student registration, including credit card payment, is completed online. Registration will be on a first-come-first-served basis.
Weekly Classes: In-person classes will be held once a week on Mondays or Wednesdays in the late afternoon or early evening. Specific days and times per age group will be announced before registration opens.
Student Fees for 2024-2025: Tuition for the 2024-2025 school year will be announced before registration opens.
Online Registration for 2024-2025: IHM uses a registration system called Parish Giving. The system open for registration on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 12 noon.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION AT IHM
- IHM High School of Religion (HSOR): HSOR welcomes all high school students to our gatherings Wednesdays from 7:30-9:00PM in the Lower Church (next meeting is this week). We offer a fun and relaxing faith community of service projects, Prayer & Pizza, Game Nights, sacraments, lively discussions and Open Gym. - IHM Centering Prayer Group: The group meets on Wednesdays at 10:00AM in the Church Library - last meeting before the summer break will be May 29th. Newcomers are always welcome. Meetings last around 45-60 minutes. The format includes: 20 minutes of Centering Prayer (a silent prayer form in the Christian contemplative tradition in which we seek to open our minds and hearts to the Divine Life within), Lectio Divina (a prayerful reading of Scripture) and a brief discussion. For more information, contact Elise Kuhn a 914-725-4728. The final session before summer break will be Wednesday, May 29th, Meetings will resume in the Fall.
- IHM Women's Prayer Group: The Prayer Group holds weekly prayer gatherings for women Thursdays from 7:00-8:00PM in the Church Library. For more information, please contact the Rectory (914-723-0276 or ihmchurch@ihmscarsdale.org).
- Charismatic Morning of Renewal Meeting at the House of Prayer: This group meets on Thursdays after the 9:00AM parish Mass - Morning Prayer, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with Intercessory Prayer and a discussion of the Scripture Readings for the coming Sunday.
- IHM School of Community: this group meets on Wednesdays at 7:00PM in the IHM Rectory Conference Room to look at our daily life and discover who we are as Christians. The text discussed is "The Religious Sense" by Father Luigi Giussani. If you are interested in attending via Zoom, please contact the Rectory and ask to be put in contact with Carolyn of School of Community.
- IHM Bible Discussion Group: The IHM Bible Discussion Group meets every Tuesday night through mid-June from 7PM to 8:30PM in the IHM lower Church and are currently reading John's Gospel. Parishioners gather to read, analyze, and discuss Sacred Scripture while enjoying a little dessert and each other’s company. To make Bible Discussion more accessible at IHM and accommodate those unavailable on Tuesday night, there is a do-it-yourself-at-home option. - IHM Troop 2 (Boy Scouts): this group welcomes 5th through 8th grade boys interested in outdoor adventure. - IHM Young Adult Group for those in their 20's & 30's: Is close to solidifying a coordinator. We will plan an IHM gathering at some point.
- The Catholic Social Widows and Widowers Group meets monthly, usually on the fourth Monday of the month, at Church of St Pius X (91 Secor Rd, Scarsdale) to honor our deceased spouses with a Mass at 5:30 (a new earlier time) in the main church, followed by a social meeting with refreshments. Our next meeting date is Monday, May 20th. We plan activities and have meals at local area restaurants. We welcome Widows and Widowers from all parishes. - The Serra Club of the Bronx and Westchester will hold its monthly luncheon meeting on May 29th at the Eastwood Manor (3371 Eastchester Road, Bronx) at 12 noon. Funds raised will support Capuchin Family Ministries summer programs to provide aid to the underserved in the Hudson Valley and Appalachia.
