Welcome to May, the month of our Blessed Mother Mary, and First Communions and May Crownings! Father Thumma and I are looking forward to our First Communions these next two Saturdays and want to extend a word of gratitude to the parents and family members, Mrs. Keelin and Mrs. Covais, their teachers, catechists and staffs for all the work of preparation going into these special days.
Parents, I would ask that after your children make their First Holy Communion, they come to Sunday Mass (or Saturday Vigil) this weekend and next weekend dressed in their Communion outfits (or as much as possible). We look forward to recognizing them before the whole parish community and being able to have various May Crownings of the Blessed Mother inside the church at each Mass.
This Friday, May 10th, our IHM Development Committee, will hold its first Annual Giving Day, a new tradition where we come together to support the mission and values that make our IHM Parish School truly special. A number of us were educated in Catholic Schools and know the gift this education has been to us, the contribution it makes to society in so many fields, and the ability to deepen and strengthen our Catholic faith that is being taught at home. I find that a parish school adds a beautiful dimension to the life of a parish, helps us fulfill our God-given mission, and is a wonderful way to nurture our young people and to support our families.
As was reported in the Parish's recent Financial Report, after several years, our School is projected to operate in the black this upcoming school year. Help us build on this sustainable momentum!

Our Archdiocesan Catholic Youth Organization is a blessing here at IHM.
The first Volleyball season has been an amazing success with promise of wonderful growth next year! Home games are played at Maria Regina High School's gym and I was amazed at the number of fans who turn out - beyond the families of the players. Thank you to Coaches Keelin and Giackette!
It was great to bless the Spring Track yesterday and see the enthusiasm of the youngsters running and being with each other. They also got to hear from Special Olympian, Paul Asaro, and see an Olympic torch and medals! Thank you Coordinator Mrs. "G" Gayanelo and the Coaches!
Basketball always has a power-packed winter season that produces some amazing games worthy of the Knicks! They are now in the middle of the Spring Basketball Season and are dedicated practicing each week and keeping up their skills. Thank you to our Coordinator, Mr. Greg Doyle, and to all of the Coaches!
On the same day that we will have the Sacrament of Confirmation in the later afternoon and evening, IHM will be blessed at 1:30pm on Thursday, May 23rd, with a Benediction stop from the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage. Four pilgrimage routes, with the Blessed Sacrament traveling in Procession, starting from California, Texas, Minnesota and Connecticut, will all converge in Indianapolis the end of July for a huge National Eucharistic Congress. As this procession passes through the Archdiocese of New York, click here for the route and dates/times and locations, it will come to Scarsdale! Before IHM, will be a brief stop at the Church of Pius X, and after our Benediction stop it will travel on to Immaculate Conception in Tuckahoe. People may wish to walk in procession to or from IHM!

All parishioners 18 and older are encouraged to join the IHM Parish Council. The Parish Council serves an important advisory role to the pastor on the life of the Parish.

Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus instructs us in the way of loving others with God’s love: “Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in his love.”
Much hinges on that little word “remain”—menein in the Greek—which John uses frequently in his Gospel. God’s love is given unconditionally as a grace, but remaining in that love is indeed a matter of keeping certain commandments.
Here is how it works: God’s love can truly dwell in us and become our “possession” only in the measure that we give it away. If we resist it or try to cling to it, it will never work its way into our own hearts, bodies, and minds. But if we give it away as an act of love, then we get more of it, entering into a delightful stream of grace. If you give away the divine love, then it “remains” in you.
This is the great Catholic doctrine of grace and the cooperation with grace. We don’t drive a great wedge between law and grace, as some of the Protestant Reformers did. Rather, we say that law and commandment allow us to participate in the love that God is. It’s a play, if you want, of both conditional and unconditional love. And it’s precisely why we can grow in love.

Public Square Rosary Rally
You are invited to the 2024 Public Square Rosary Rally on Saturday, May 25th at 12:00 noon. It will take place in the North Parking lot of IHM Church (by the Grotto). This year as we pray Our Lady’s Rosary and other prayers in her honor, we invoke her blessings on marriage and the family and for PEACE in America and in the world. This Rally is one of 20,000 rosary rallies, organized by America Needs Fatima, that will take place all over the United States. Please make an effort to attend. IHM CYO Summer Volleyball Camp
IHM CYO is running a summer Volleyball camp for students in grades 4 to 8 who are parishioners of IHM and/or attend our IHM School.
- Session One will be held from July 22 to July 26 from 4PM to 7PM
- Session Two be held from July 29 to August 2 from 4PM to 7PM
The fee is $155 per session. A Tee shirt is included.
Save the Date: Golden Jubilee Wedding Mass
Couples celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary anytime during 2024 are
invited to attend the Golden Wedding Jubilee Mass with Cardinal Dolan at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Sunday, June 2nd at 2:30PM. Each couple may bring up to 4 additional guests. Pre-registration is required. The closing date to register for the Mass is Monday, May 6th.

Our next Midnight Run is scheduled for June 8th. Many have answered our call for donations as they start their spring cleaning projects. Especially needed for these next Runs are men’s jeans from waist size 30-42 and all lengths. This is in addition to sneakers, sweatpants, hoodies, backpacks, shorts and T-shirts. IHM Religious Education 2024-2025 Registration
To enroll in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Religious Education Program a Family must be a registered Parishioner of IHM Church before the start of the new school season. If you need to register with the Parish or inquire about your IHM Parish Registration/Envelope status, please call the IHM rectory or click here to register.
Online registration for the 2024-2025 school year for children in grades Kindergarten through 8th will open on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 12 noon. (We encourage parents to register children in Kindergarten, but this is optional.) IHM Religious Education student registration, including credit card payment, is completed online. Registration will be on a first-come-first-served basis.
Weekly Classes: In-person classes will be held once a week on Mondays or Wednesdays in the late afternoon or early evening. Specific days and times per age group will be announced before registration opens.
Student Fees for 2024-2025: Tuition for the 2024-2025 school year will be announced before registration opens.

Join the Office of Family Life as we run The Marriage Course, a seven-week video series designed to promote discussion and growth between spouses on the topics of connection, communication, conflict resolution, forgiveness, family, sex, and acts of love. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION AT IHM
- IHM High School of Religion (HSOR): HSOR welcomes all high school students to our gatherings Wednesdays from 7:30-9:00PM in the Lower Church (next meeting is this week). We offer a fun and relaxing faith community of service projects, Prayer & Pizza, Game Nights, sacraments, lively discussions and Open Gym. - IHM Centering Prayer Group: The group meets on Wednesdays at 10:00AM in the Church Library. Newcomers are always welcome. Meetings last around 45-60 minutes. The format includes: 20 minutes of Centering Prayer (a silent prayer form in the Christian contemplative tradition in which we seek to open our minds and hearts to the Divine Life within), Lectio Divina (a prayerful reading of Scripture) and a brief discussion. - Charismatic Morning of Renewal Meeting at the House of Prayer: This group meets on Thursdays after the 9:00AM parish Mass - Morning Prayer, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with Intercessory Prayer and a discussion of the Scripture Readings for the coming Sunday.
- IHM School of Community: this group meets on Wednesdays at 7:00PM in the IHM Rectory Conference Room to look at our daily life and discover who we are as Christians. The text discussed is "The Religious Sense" by Father Luigi Giussani. If you are interested in attending via Zoom, please contact the Rectory and ask to be put in contact with Carolyn of School of Community.
- IHM Bible Discussion Group: The IHM Bible Discussion Group meets every Tuesday night through mid-June from 7PM to 8:30PM in the IHM lower Church and are currently reading John's Gospel. Parishioners gather to read, analyze, and discuss Sacred Scripture while enjoying a little dessert and each other’s company. To make Bible Discussion more accessible at IHM and accommodate those unavailable on Tuesday night, there is a do-it-yourself-at-home option.
