Jesus said: "I am the good shepherd,
and I know mine and mine know me,
just as the Father knows me and I know the Father;
and I will lay down my life for the sheep."
My dear friends,
This Easter Sunday is typically referred to as Good Shepherd Sunday to reflect on how Jesus, in light of His Death and Resurrection, is the Good Shepherd our souls desire and need. It is also an important time for us to pray for priests and the reception and response to the call of God for vocations to the priesthood, particularly here in the Archdiocese of New York. Keeping young people occupied and active is a good thing, but if their formation does not have a balance of authentic quiet and prayer, an essential dimension of the human person will be missing and go undeveloped. In the lives of us as adults, there are so many demands on our time that if we habitually neglect to seek first the Kingdom of God with daily prayer and silence for even a brief time, and Mass on Sunday, we will be living, maybe a good life from the perspective our of community, but we will not be truly connected to the everlasting waters of God's life and goodness. We will be going without hearing in a spiritual way the Lord Jesus and our Heavenly Father speak to our hearts and souls.
I believe that I am here as your priest and pastor today because of the good soil and formation that my parents gave me, so that when the Lord planted the seed of a calling in my heart, mind and soul through my Pastor, it had the space to grow and develop. What I ended up truly seeking and desiring in life, dovetailed with what God was inviting me to consider! That filled my teenage heart with great joy and peace and helped me take the steps to the priesthood. May our young people and our adults who are seeking God's Will for them in life truly come to THE specific Good that God is calling them to be in their lives.
I look forward to the Little Sisters of the Poor coming to IHM to beg for the needs of their elderly poor patients they serve in the Bronx and Queens!
Tonight's Vigil Mass and evening will be a festive time on our campus as we welcome back to IHM School the Alumni from the 1980's, 1990's and the first decade of 2000's! Thank you to the IHM Development Committee for planning this great event and opportunity! May many people reconnect with classmates and long-time friends.
You will see a wonderful photo further below from this past Thursday's HOPE (Help Our People Eat) Community Services of New Rochelle of a number of our parishioners, who are involved in various ways supporting the good work of HOPE and making sure your faithful donations get to their destination! It warmed my heart and made me so proud to be Pastor of IHM to hear how in 1984 our late parishioner, Mary Lou McNaney (pictured immediately below), founded HOPE with the support of former Pastor Msgr. Ed Connors and IHM Parish. "Now HOPE the largest emergency food program in Westchester County ... striving to meet the needs of its community with warmth and respect." May the Lord continue to bless this beautiful Corporal Work of Mercy! Thank you Paul Coschignano for your current HOPE Food Drive at IHM.

Four Seats Open for 2024 IHM Parish Council Elections -
Self Nominations Encouraged
All parishioners 18 and older are encouraged to join the IHM Parish Council. The Parish Council serves an important advisory role to the pastor on the life of the Parish.
We are looking for nominations of people from a broad spectrum of our Parish life who seek to be involved in the various goings on of the Parish, to build up our IHM community, and to contribute to the mission that Jesus has given us.
Please give some consideration for yourself or someone you know who would make a good candidate to run for elections and, if elected, serve up to 3 years. Previous candidates are encouraged to participate, as well as teens who are at least 18 years old by September 2024.

Little Sisters of the Poor will be at IHM This Weekend
Please join us in welcoming the Little Sisters of the Poor to our parish the weekend of April 20-21st. At the Jeanne Jugan Residence the Little Sisters offer a Home to needy elderly women and men. They depend on donations to care for them with love and dignity. Any assistance you can give will help them provide for the needs of the elderly entrusted to their care. Friends, the image of God as shepherd is a classic one in the Bible. In the book of the prophet Ezekiel, we hear that God would one day come and shepherd Israel himself. Shepherds guarded, guided, protected, and watched over their flocks—just as God guards, guides, protects, and watches over Israel.
This image comes to a climactic expression in the words of Jesus: “I am the good shepherd.” What precisely makes him good? A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The good shepherd is so other-oriented, so devoted to his sheep, that he is willing to surrender his life that they might live.
Sure, a good shepherd should do all that he can to protect and guide his flock, but who among us would really expect him to give his life for them? But this is precisely what Jesus claims to do.
Imagine the difference between humans and sheep; now, multiply that difference infinitely. That would give you some idea of the difference between God and humanity. And yet God is willing to lay down his life for the likes of us.

Although Soviet communism ended in the early 1990s, its destructive effects linger in the societies where it once ruled.
In 2022, I made a visit to the border countries of Poland and Slovakia with the Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA), of which I am chairman, to show our solidarity and concern for the people of Ukraine and to remind them that they are not alone, and they have good friends who will support them.
Every year, the USCCB requests a collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. Your participation on April 28 will express your care and support for the people throughout the region and in Ukraine, especially in times of crisis and disruption. I am asking that you prayerfully consider as an act of mercy and charity a generous donation to this distinctive offering.

Paul Coschignano is Running a Food Drive to Support
the HOPE Community Services in New Rochelle

For the last 2 years, Paul Coschignano, a senior at Iona Prep and parishioner at IHM has been volunteering at the HOPE Community Kitchen serving meals to those in need, as he believes no one should have to go hungry. HOPE is a community organization in New Rochelle NY, providing emergency food services to all in the community. HOPE Community Services is a non-profit organization that services New Rochelle and the surrounding towns. HOPE’s food pantry is one of the largest in Westchester County and has the only Kosher pantry in the county. For his senior service project, Paul has chosen to run a food drive to help support their food pantry. Help Paul support this great organization!

IHM Parish has been a strong supporter of HOPE Community Services since the beginning. This past Thursday evening the HOPE Gala celebrated the organization’s 40th anniversary! A number of IHM parishioners who attended the Gala are pictured above.
Our next Midnight Runs are scheduled for April 27th and June 8th. Many have answered our call for donations as they start their spring cleaning projects. Especially needed for these next Runs are men’s jeans from waist size 30-42 and all lengths. This is in addition to sneakers, sweatpants, hoodies, backpacks, shorts and T-shirts. All items should be gently used or better. Anyone who is interested in any aspect of Midnight Run—driving, sorting, food prep—please email ihmmidnightrun@gmail.com, thank you!
IHM Religious Education 2024-2025 Registration
To enroll in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Religious Education Program a Family must be a registered Parishioner of IHM Church before the start of the new school season. If you need to register with the Parish or inquire about your IHM Parish Registration/Envelope status, please call the IHM rectory or click here to register.
Online registration for the 2024-2025 school year for children in grades Kindergarten through 8th will open on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 12 noon. (We encourage parents to register children in Kindergarten, but this is optional.) IHM Religious Education student registration, including credit card payment, is completed online. Registration will be on a first-come-first-served basis.
Weekly Classes: In-person classes will be held once a week on Mondays or Wednesdays in the late afternoon or early evening. Specific days and times per age group will be announced before registration opens.
Student Fees for 2024-2025: Tuition for the 2024-2025 school year will be announced before registration opens.

Seasons of Hope: A Catholic Bereavement Series
Are you grieving the loss of a loved one?
The Church of St. Pius X is offering a six session faith-based catholic series for those in mourning. Seasons of Hope offers an opportunity to gather with others in a small group setting and to share in Gods love. With the support of the faith community, we give voice to our unique journeys of grief and find healing and spiritual growth. Seasons of Hope sessions explore our personal journeys of mourning through scripture, prayer, reflection, and faith sharing.
The Seasons of Hope series will take place Thursday, April 25th and will meet for six Thursdays through May 30th from 6:30-8:00PM
at St. Pius X Parish Pavilion (91 Secor Rd, Scarsdale)

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION AT IHM
- IHM High School of Religion (HSOR): HSOR welcomes all high school students to our gatherings Wednesdays from 7:30-9:00PM in the Lower Church (next meeting is this week). We offer a fun and relaxing faith community of service projects, Prayer & Pizza, Game Nights, sacraments, lively discussions and Open Gym. - IHM Centering Prayer Group: The group meets on Wednesdays at 10:00AM in the Church Library. Newcomers are always welcome. Meetings last around 45-60 minutes. The format includes: 20 minutes of Centering Prayer (a silent prayer form in the Christian contemplative tradition in which we seek to open our minds and hearts to the Divine Life within), Lectio Divina (a prayerful reading of Scripture) and a brief discussion. - IHM School of Community: this group meets on Wednesdays at 7:00PM in the IHM Rectory Conference Room to look at our daily life and discover who we are as Christians. The text discussed is "The Religious Sense" by Father Luigi Giussani. - IHM Bible Discussion Group: The IHM Bible Discussion Group meets every Tuesday night through mid-June from 7PM to 8:30PM in the IHM lower Church and are currently reading John's Gospel. Parishioners gather to read, analyze, and discuss Sacred Scripture while enjoying a little dessert and each other’s company. To make Bible Discussion more accessible at IHM and accommodate those unavailable on Tuesday night, there is a do-it-yourself-at-home option.
