Happy Saint Patrick's Day Weekend of celebrations! From Saturday's NYC Parade, to the 17th on Lenten Sunday to the observed liturgical solemnity moved to Monday, a blessed Patronal Feast of our Archdiocese of New York!
Know that we will have an image of the Saint in the sanctuary as well as flowers for the occasion. It will also be the Lenten Sunday when we cover the statues as we near the Passion and Death of Our Lord.
This weekend after all the Sunday Masses (including Saturday Vigil Mass), our Parish Council will be sponsoring a Ministries Fair of all the various organizations and groups of the parish. Join us in the lower church after Mass and thank you John Larkin, our Parish Council Chair, and other members for organizing!
It is heartening to see how many of you are coming to daily Mass this Lent!
I want to thank Meg Drohan, President of the Saint Veronica's Guild, and Mary Balcom, who coordinated the Day of Recollection for Women on the 15th. It is always a joyful blessing to be with the Guild and your guests!
Along with Sister Nancy Kellar and all at the House of Prayer, I would like to welcome Stephanie McLain to IHM! Stephanie is the third LAMP Missionary at the House of Prayer. "LAMP (Lay Apostolic Ministries with the Poor) is a canonical ministry of the Archdiocese of New York. They offer Catholic adults the opportunity to deepen their faith through a 6 month or more committed time of service and prayer working with the materially poor in NYC and the Bronx. Founded by Tom & Lyn Scheuring in 1981, their mission is to share the compassionate heart of Jesus with those who suffer the most in our society – those who are poor, homeless, abandoned, sick, elderly, or ignored." This Wednesday evening at 7:30pm in the lower church, our High School of Religion (HSOR) group will be welcoming 8th and 7th graders for a visit to Come and See!
Before each Easter, after the snow and salt of winter, it is good that we have a deep annual cleaning of the church and public areas of the rectory. Due to such cleaning, Adoration and Rectory walk-in hours will be effected:
Rectory hours will be 9am to 12noon on both Wednesday, March 20th and Thursday, March 21st. Please feel free to call or email during usual office hours to reach someone as staff will be working from home.
Adoration during Holy Week will only be Monday, March 25th from 7:15am until 1:45pm; Tuesday, March 26th from 7:15am until 12noon; and Wednesday, March 27th from 7:15am until 8:50am. Regular Adoration will resume Easter Monday, April 1st.
Consider joining IHM at the annual Chrism Mass on Holy Tuesday at Saint Patrick's Cathedral. IHM is providing bus transportation to and from the Mass.

Friends, our Gospel for today contains one of the most beautiful and terrible summations of the Christian message: “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.”
Now this one upon whom the crowds had pinned their hopes is speaking of falling to the earth and dying. And then it gets stranger. “Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will preserve it for life eternal.” Come again?!
Just when we are raising you up, you’re talking about falling down; just when we are showing you that your life has come to its fulfillment, you’re talking about hating this life.
To understand what all this means, we should go back to the grain of wheat that falls to the earth. A seed’s life is inside, yes, but it’s a life that grows by being given away and mixing with the soil around it. It has to crack open, to be destroyed.
Jesus’ sign is the sign of the cross—the death that leads to transfiguration.

IHM participated in the Eastchester Annual St. Patrick's Day parade last Sunday. Despite the weather, our spirits were high as we marched along the parade route with IHM students and parents, faculty and our annual parade float. Special thanks to Darragh Garvey from the MGF Group (themgfgroup.com) for donating the float vehicle and driver in the parade!
The IHM College Group is conducting their annual Easter Basket Drive for Hope Community Services. Donations of baskets, small Easter toys and candy (no nuts) are welcomed. Donations may be left by Christ the King altar.

Tuesday, March 26th will be the Chrism Mass at Saint Patrick's Cathedral where our Archbishop, Cardinal Dolan, will bless the new Holy Oils and invite the priests of the Archdiocese, including Msgr. Sweeney and Fr. Thumma, to renew their priestly promises.
If there are any parishioners who would be interested in attending this unique Mass at Saint Patrick's Cathedral in NYC, IHM is providing bus transportation to the city and one of our two buses is already filled up with Confirmation candidates/families and Bible Discussion participants!
The buses will be departing IHM for the city at 2:00PM. Our next Run will be April 27th and we would greatly appreciate those items which don't fit or that you will no longer wear. - Charismatic Morning of Renewal Meeting at the House of Prayer: This group meets on Thursdays after the 9:00AM parish Mass - Morning Prayer, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with Intercessory Prayer and a discussion of the Scripture Readings for the coming Sunday.
- IHM School of Community: this group meets on Wednesdays at 7:00PM in the IHM Rectory Conference Room to look at our daily life and discover who we are as Christians. The text discussed is "The Religious Sense" by Father Luigi Giussani. If you are interested in attending via Zoom, please contact the Rectory and ask to be put in contact with Carolyn of School of Community.
- IHM Bible Discussion Group: The IHM Bible Discussion Group meets every Tuesday night through mid-June from 7PM to 8:30PM in the IHM lower Church and are currently reading John's Gospel. Parishioners gather to read, analyze, and discuss Sacred Scripture while enjoying a little dessert and each other’s company. To make Bible Discussion more accessible at IHM and accommodate those unavailable on Tuesday night, there is a do-it-yourself-at-home option. - IHM Troop 2 (Boy Scouts): this group welcomes 5th through 8th grade boys interested in outdoor adventure. - Volunteers Wanted to Train as Leaders for Free Health Workshops for Seniors:The Department of Senior Programs and Services, seeks volunteers to teach a workshop that will help older adults better manage chronic health conditions such as arthritis, asthma, high blood pressure and the like. A medical background is not necessary. The volunteer training is scheduled for March 20 and 21, from 8:30AM to 4:00PM at Fordham University’s Westchester campus in West Harrison. - Salesian High School will be hosting an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 23rd, from 1:00 - 3:00PM! The cost of the event is $25 per family.
