This week in Auriesville in upstate New York, Catholics from our State Province are drawing closer to Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament at the Eucharistic Congress. If you were unable to participate in person, perhaps livestream into the speakers! Let us all pray for the spiritual fruitfulness of this encounter and for a greater belief and reverence for Jesus's real and true presence in the Eucharist! It was great to be with our 2023-24 Parish Council, bring them up to date on various things and hear what's on their minds. Some things your parish reps are working on is parish safety and security, expanding the monthly coffee and donuts to more Sunday Masses and looking into a new outdoor Nativity! We will make sure to have sufficient paper ballots for next year's elections, too! Please be respectful with parking, dropping off/picking up students and leaving the South Lot on Sundays. Please follow the indications on Gaylor Road and keep traffic moving when dropping off and picking up students for both the school and Religious Ed. If you have not seen it, there is a sign prohibiting a left turn out of the South Parking lot only on Sundays. We want to keep the area in and around the church and school safe and accessible, particularly when there is heavy volume.
When I served in close proximity to NYC in Yonkers and Douglaston, Queens, I never really took advantage of the musical offerings the City has. Therefore, I resolved to change my ways when I began working in Rome. That Fall of 2015 I signed up for all of Beethoven's 9 symphonies (over a five-week span) at the National Academy of Santa Cecilia and had a wonderful time experiencing live classical music. I encourage you to stay local and experience the Mozart Requiem at IHM on Friday, October 27th at 7:30pm! You won't want to miss it!
Under the banner of the Parish Council is our annual Wine and Cheese evening on Friday, November 3rd! Calzones have been added to the menu - yum! Enjoy an evening out with fellow parishioners, family and friends!

We have been blessed with 3 groups of Eagle Scouts/Candidates who have helped IHM -
Andrew Mannion provided the sharp looking maroon food/donation collection boxes at the doors of the church a couple of years ago and led a food drive!
His brother, Sean Mannion, organized a team this year to revamp our Food Pantry and Donations collection room that serves Cornerstone for the Troops, the Giving (Jesse) Tree, Back-to-School items, the Sisters of Life Baby Shower and more!
Luis Marquez of IHM Troop 2 is about to tackle the library and get all the books (namely, the card catalogue) online!
What a witness from all three to service and giving back to the community of the parish - thank you!
Please excuse me from this weekend as I am at a family celebration of my friend and first cousin who is marrying a wonderful woman from Scotland! Father Justin Cinnante, a Carmelite who is Iona Prep's chaplain, will help out by offering 4pm Confessions and the 5:30pm Vigil Mass on Saturday.
When I return, I am looking forward to participating in the Retreat for our Confirmation candidates - Saturday, October 28th!

PUBLIC SQUARE ROSARY RALLY

Knights of Columbus Raffle
October 21-22 & October 28-29
The Rev. John A. Keogh Council: C&B is the Charitable & Benevolent Raffle program the Knights of Columbus runs each year. It is their main fundraiser and they use those funds to help those suffering from floods, earthquakes and other natural disasters.
C&B raffles will be available after all Masses on the weekend of October 21 & 22 and October 28 & 29.
IHM Memorial Mass: Saturday, November 4th
Parishioners who have died in recent months will be remembered at the Saturday, November 4th, 8:30 AM Mass. All are encouraged to attend this Mass in prayerful support of our bereaved families. Following the Mass, refreshments will be served in the lower Church hosted by our Bereavement Ministry.

Friends, in today’s Gospel, the Pharisees try to trap Jesus. They ask, “Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not?” Church-state questions are nothing new—and they continue to be just as divisive.
In the matter of religion and politics, the same principle of Jesus’ wonderful one-liner applies: “Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.” Politics is not in a realm separate from the religious; rather, its deepest ground is spiritual.
So does this mean that religion just swallows everything up? Of course not. Here we can profitably return to Jesus’ dictum. One of the implications of the doctrine of creation is that created things have their own integrity. They are not parts of God, appendages of God’s being. Sports, culture, art, politics, science, etc. have their own particular forms of flourishing.
And it’s no business of mine to come crashing into an artist’s studio and telling him how to paint, or to enter an operating room and tell a doctor how to perform heart surgery. This is the valid independence of created things and secular culture vis-à-vis religion. But remember that all things, ultimately, belong to God—including Caesar!

OPERATION CORNERSTONE
Bringing a little comfort to our troops
Operation Cornerstone will be collecting food items, toiletries and sundries to send to our soldiers who are serving overseas and will not be home for the holidays. We will be partnering with United For The Troops again this year, who will pick up the donations from IHM, package and then mail the boxes to the troops. Any monetary donations to help defray the cost of mailing the packages can be left at the rectory.
Suggested donations are:
Food: Pringles (snack size), Trail Mix, instant oatmeal, granola bars, power bars, nuts, Slim Jims, Beef Jerky, Pop Tarts, Easy Mac Microwave Cups, ramen noodles, tuna fish, canned chicken, spam, sardines, peanut butter (plastic only), jelly & jam (plastic only), cereals (individual size), chili, stew, pasta, soup, canned fruit (16 oz or smaller), gum & Lifesavers, coffee (1 lb or less), coffee filters, hot chocolate packets, tea (small boxes), drink mixes (single serve).

Our next Midnight Run is scheduled for December 2nd. We are very grateful for all donations but, as we head into cooler weather, our most needed items are backpacks, men's jeans/pants (up to waist size 42), gloves, scarves, baseball caps, and men's shoes/sneakers (esp sizes 9-13) and rain ponchos.
Our recent Runs were very successful and we found homes for ALL donated items! We thank everyone for their generosity. There is much need in this metro area and all donations help.

United Way of Westchester and Putnam
United Way of Westchester and Putnam is helping residents overcome the transportation obstacles that are hindering their lives. Its Ride United Transportation Access Program offers free Lyft rides to residents without access to a vehicle or public transportation. These rides can be used for non-emergency medical appointments, job interviews, workforce development training, court appearances, and other health and human service-related meetings.
Community nonprofits and agencies can refer clients to use the program by completing the form located on their website – link below.
