I hope everyone is hungry for a parish picnic this Sunday from 1-4pm at David Park, a few blocks behind the church! May our prayers for good weather continue!
This Monday evening, September 18th, join our IHM Parish Council in the church for a Eucharistic Meditation on the Gospel of John from 7:30pm to 9:00pm given by Father Ignatius John Schweitzer, O.P., Dominican priest of the St. Joseph (Eastern) Province! Sung hymns will be interspersed throughout the reflection.
Since this Sunday's readings are about confronting anger in us, offering forgiveness to others in a perfect way after the pater of Jesus and HIs Heavenly Father, what is so needed is to bring the power of Jesus' Passion, Death and Resurrection into those places of hurt in the soul, heart, mind and maybe even body. This presentation is a opportunity for us to receive a fuller share of Jesus' Presence for us and the opportunity for deeper transformation and renewal.
Following Catechetical Sunday, our IHM Religious Education Program is back in session thanks to all of the preparation and dedication of Mrs. Laura Covais, our Coordinator, her staff, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholson with some refreshments, and our generous catechists! Besides adding a Tuesday evening to the already Monday and Wednesday gatherings, offering more grades during each session and altering the times of classes to take into account school schedules and all that families do to bring their children to Religious Ed, we have also planned out each week of material for each grade to accomplish to keep everyone on track as the year unfolds.
If you drove by the parish Friday, you might have seen Scarsdale Fire Department flying a huge American Flag, red and blue chalk all over the parking lot and the good people from Tunnel to Towers Foundation here for the Home School Association's fundraiser at our IHM School! Besides raising over $33k for such an worthy organization the week we remember 9/11, it was also a powerful opportunity with our students to stir up the beautiful virtue of patriotism - all while having a grand time!
Thank you to Virginia Holek, who organized last week's IHM Social Ministries Give-Away, along with Debbie Bracken, Camille Roche, Steve Marchiony and many other volunteers - both adults and Confirmation Candidates - for your time, hard work, cleaning and preparation! To all of you, who took home some treasures and made a donation, over $1,200 in proceeds went to our parish's Social Ministries account, which directly helps those in need and stands ready to assist our wonderful parish organizations assisting the needy! I hope many people have a piece of IHM to cherish.
Next weekend a 3rd year Theologian from Saint Joseph's Seminary will be speaking after the homily about the annual Dunwoodie Seminary Collection - we look forward to welcoming him!
As we near the Respect Life month of October, please save the date and join IHM for the annual Life-Chain from 1-2pm on Sunday, October 1st. Along with so many across our nation, come and peacefully witness to BOTH the life of the unborn and the support of mothers in crisis pregnancies along Post Road in front of the church!
We will also offer Eucharistic Adoration inside the church at that time.
From September 27 through November 5, we’re also invited to join other Christians for 40 Days for Life – 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion. YOu may wish also to stand and peacefully pray during a 40-day vigil in the public right-of-way outside the Planned Parenthood at 175 Tarrytown Road in White Plains and to help spread the word about this important community outreach. There will be a KICKOFF RALLY at 10am on Saturday, September 23, outside the Planned Parenthood at 175 Tarrytown Road in White Plains. Click here for further information.

Eucharistic Meditation at IHM
On September 18th, Monday evening, please join our IHM Parish Council in the church for a Eucharistic Meditation on the Gospel of John from 7:30PM to 9:00PM given by Father Ignatius John Schweitzer, O.P., Dominican priest of the St. Joseph (Eastern) Province!
Sung hymns will be interspersed throughout the reflection.
Father Ignatius was ordained in 2011 and later spent six years living as a monk in a Carthusian monastery. He then returned to the Dominicans, discerning a strong call from the Lord to help others grow in the spiritual and mystical life. Upon returning, he completed his License degree in Sacred Theology, writing on The Life, Light, and Fire of Triune Love: A Trinitarian Spirituality from Scripture, Aquinas, Ruusbroec, and John of the Cross. He is the prior of St. Catherine of Siena Priory in New York City (411 East 68th Street). He hopes to be of service to the Lord’s loving cry to souls and souls’ cry for the Lord: “Abyss calls to abyss!” Father Ignatius will also be joining the staff of Saint Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers to assist in the spiritual formation of our men preparing for the priesthood.

Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus tells a parable that illustrates God’s mercy. The Latin word for mercy is misericordia, which designates the suffering of the heart, or compassion—cum patior (I suffer with).
Mercy is identical to what the Old Testament authors refer to as God’s hesed or tender mercy. It is the characteristic of God, for God is love. The love that obtains among the Trinitarian persons spills over into God’s love for the world that he has made.

Think of a mother’s love for her children. Could you ever imagine a mother becoming indifferent to one of her offspring? But even should she forget, we read in the prophet Isaiah, God will never forget his own. Consider the fact that nothing would exist were it not willed into being by God. But God has no need of anything; hence, his sustaining of the universe is an act of disinterested love and tender mercy.
There is no greater manifestation of the divine mercy than the forgiveness of sins. When G.K. Chesterton was asked why he became a Catholic, he answered, “To have my sins forgiven.” This is the greatest grace the Church can offer: reconciliation, the restoration of the divine friendship, the forgiveness of our sins.

The Cereal Effect (TCE) - Collection Boxes Located at Church Entrances through September 17th
This fall, Ursuline will be hosting its third-annual run of The Cereal Effect (TCE), a cereal collection to benefit HOPE Community Services in New Rochelle.
TCE started as an initiative to help combat student hunger in our local community, ensuring that students are able to enjoy a full nutritious breakfast before attending school. Over the last two years, TCE has grown into a massive school-wide project, having partnered with grocery stores including Trader Joe’s, ACME, DeCicco’s, and more.
This year, our goal is 2,000 boxes of cereal, and Ursuline would love to partner with the IHM parish to help us get there. We will place collection boxes at the entrances of the church so that parishioners can drop off any cereal boxes they can spare for our cause on or before Sunday, September the 17th. Thank you for helping Ursuline and HOPE fight student hunger in our community, one cereal box at a time.

Dear friends in the Lord:
Every day I receive many letters from our wonderful parishioners, but none cheers me more than when I read how much the faithful love their devoted priests. And as you know, almost all of them were educated and formed at St. Joseph's Seminary, Dunwoodie, now beginning its 128th year.
Our seminarians are not only the future shepherds of our flock, but they will also be spiritual guides and leaders in our wider communities. We must be sure that they are as well prepared as possible to serve the Church in New York. And for the last century and a quarter, Dunwoodie has been that place of formation. Thousands of holy, dedicated, and faithful priests have been ordained over these years. It is nationally renowned, held in the highest regard by bishops from around the country. Each year, other dioceses and religious orders send their candidates to our priestly formation program.
As I write to you today and express my gratitude for last year's contribution of
$378,918, I ask you to consider in your own prayer, a sacrificial gift to the Annual Seminary Appeal. It will be collected on the weekend of September 24th. Your support will provide tuition, room and board, academic training and spiritual formation for our archdiocesan seminarians and the others who are studying there and help prepare these young men to become great priests after the heart of Jesus, the Good Shepherd.
As you know, we do not have as many men making the commitment to serve as priests as we did years ago, and I am so grateful to those who accept the Lord's call. Online registration for the 2023-2024 school year for grades Kindergarten and 1st Grade IS STILL OPEN! Classes begin on October 2nd. All returning families were emailed registration instructions. New families to our program can find the link to the registration form on our website.
In-person classes are held once per week. This 2023-2024 Class schedule will not be based on School District, as in previous years, and will offer more flexibility for parents. Registration will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

Respect Life Sunday, on October 1st, kicks off Respect Life Month, a time to pray for the protection of all human life. You can join one of the Life Chains, a peaceful and prayerful public witness for an end to abortion that offers a message of mercy and healing for those suffering as a result of abortion. Or you can participate in Rosary Coast to Coast, a movement to unite the nation in praying the Holy Rosary for healing of our country and a return to holiness. SCHOOL OF COMMUNITY
School of Community is an occasion to meet weekly to look at our daily life and discover who we are as Christians. Our text will be “The Religious Sense” by Father Luigi Giussani.
Father Giussani is the founder of the Catholic Lay Movement Communion and Liberation. The “Religious Sense” is an exploration of the search for the meaning in life. Monsignor Lorenzo Albacete calls it simply “The grammar of Christianity”.
Meetings will take place on Wednesdays at 7:00PM in the IHM Library. We also connect on Zoom with those unable to join us (please contact the rectory and ask to be put in contact with Carolyn). Come and see.

WITH GLUTEN SENSITIVITIES
For any who have sensitivities to Gluten, know that Low Gluten hosts (containing less than 0.002% gluten, <20ppm, fully in accord with Church Canon Law) are available for receiving our Lord in Holy Communion. For those unable to have any gluten, we are happy to offer Holy Communion from a separate Chalice. Please speak with a priest before Mass.

- IHM Choir: The Children's Choir is open to all students from grades 2-8 and they sing at the 9:00AM Children's Mass on most Sundays of the school year. The Adult Choir is open to anyone high school age and above and they sing weekly at the 10:30AM Mass (and holidays). - IHM School of Community: this group meets on Wednesdays at 7:00PM in the IHM Library to look at our daily life and discover who we are as Christians. The text will be "The Religious Sense" by Father Luigi Giussani. If you are interested in attending via Zoom, please contact the Rectory and ask to be put in contact with Carolyn of School of Community.
- IHM Bible Discussion Group: Last Tuesday 23 parishioners gathered together in the lower Church at 7pm for a lively discussion on Chapter One of the Gospel According o Saint Mark. The Holy Spirit was present in topic and inspiration. Please join us this Tuesday, September 12th at 7 pm in the lower Church while we read, reflect on and discuss Chapter Two; learning from each other how the living Word guides us along our journey toward God, our Father. Refreshments are available for participants. All are welcome!
- IHM Troop 2 (Boy Scouts): this group welcomes 5th through 8th grade boys interested in outdoor adventure. If hiking, camping, white water rafting and first aid skills interest your child, consider joining! IHM Troop 2 on Thursdays, September 14th and 21st in the lower church at 7:30PM. - IHM College Group: Congratulations on beginning the fall semester! Come join us Tuesday, September 26th at 7pm in the Rectory (Conference Room) to get together, have a bite to eat, pray for one another and plan some upcoming service opportunities! CLICK HERE if you would like to inquire.
- IHM Young Adult Group for those in their 20's & 30's: We will plan a gathering this Fall. Monthly Archdiocesan gatherings for the region are on the third Wednesdays of each month at Annunciation/Fatima with 6:30PM Holy Hour and Confession at 7:30PM Mass followed by a social
- IHM Centering Prayer Group: will resume meeting on Wednesday, September 27th. This group Group meets on Wednesdays at 10:00AM in the Church Library. Newcomers are always welcome. Meetings last around 45-60 minutes. The format includes: 20 minutes of Centering Prayer (a silent prayer form in the Christian contemplative tradition in which we seek to open our minds and hearts to the Divine Life within), Lectio Divina (a prayerful reading of Scripture) and a brief discussion. - Charismatic Prayer Meeting at the House of Prayer: On Wednesdays at 7:30PM in the Chapel & Thursdays of Prayer after the 9:00AM parish Mass.

- Catholic Widows and Widowers of Yonkers:
- Communion Breakfast: The Catholic Widows and Widowers of Yonkers Communion Breakfast will be held on Sunday, September 17th. Mass will celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church, (670 Yonkers Avenue, Yonkers) at 10:30AM, followed by a luncheon at San Martino Ristorante (12 Young Ave, Yonkers). - Beginning Experience of the Hudson Valley invites those who have suffered the loss of a marriage or spousal relationship through death, divorce or separation to a one day remote program held on Saturday, September 23rd from 9:00AM to 4:00PM. In the Beginning, Coping With Life Alone is a program designed to help you along your grief journey and is led by those who are on this same journey.
