My dear friends,
A blessed Feast of the Transfiguration! This Feast of Our Lord supersedes the regular Sunday and allows us a chance to consider the divine glory that radiates from Jesus on Mount Tabor, preparing the Apostles Peter, James and John for His Passion and Death, that will shake them to the core, but that will give us hope of divine victory over suffering and death.
It seems that our parish has been blessed with the birth of a number of children and even more are on the way! God bless all the mothers and fathers welcoming new life into their homes, seeing that children are baptized in the Faith, and for all the sacrifices parents are making that is a real participation in and imaging of God's great love for these newborns!
This week our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has been with young people in Lisbon, Portugal, celebrating World Youth Day (WYD)! They are gatherings unlike anything else in the Catholic World (yes, even by Rome standards)! They are the blessed vision and gift of Saint John Paul II. May much grace flow from this spirited gathering near where our Blessed Mother appeared at Fatima.
Thank you to a benefactor for the donations of This Is My Body: A Call to Eucharistic Revival by Bishop Robert Barron that you will find at the entrances to our church! It is a perfect opportunity to go deeper into the reality of Jesus in the Eucharist this time of renewal!
Last Saturday at the 9/11 Memorial at Kensico Dam, I had the privilege of offering the Invocation and Benediction at the commissioning of our parishioner, Richard Greco III, as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Marine Corps! Congratulations to the Greco family and thank you 2LT Greco on your patriotism, service to our nation and sense of sacrifice. Let us pray for him and all in our parish serving in the armed forces, in particular those at the military Academies preparing for their own commissioning.
Congratulations to our parishioner and choir member, Mary Cinguina, who is a recipient of the 2023 Venerable Pierre Toussaint Scholarship Award from the Archdiocese of New York as she moves on to her next chapter in college!
Please continue prayers for my classmate, Father Fidelis, CFR, who is serving time in Nassau Jail on Long Island for witnessing to the value and dignity of pre-born human life at Planned Parenthood.

Sunday, August 6, 2023 | Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord | Matthew 17:1-9
Friends, today we celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration. What does this event mean? Thomas Aquinas’ treatment in the Summa theologiae sums up much of the wisdom of the Church Fathers on this matter.
Aquinas says that it was fitting for Christ to be manifested in his glory to his select Apostles because those who walk an arduous path need a clear sense of the goal of their journey. The arduous path is this life, with all of its attendant sufferings, failures, disappointments, and injustices.
Beset by all of this negativity, a pilgrim on life’s way can easily succumb to despair unless he is granted a glimpse of the glory that comes at the end of his striving. And this is why, Aquinas argues, Jesus, before journeying to Jerusalem to walk the way of the cross, for a brief moment allows the light to shine through him.
Though we live and move within the confines of this world of space and time, we are not meant, finally, for this dimensional system; we are summoned to life on high with God in a transformed state of existence. The Transfiguration, therefore, awakens our sense of wonder and steels our courage to face the darkness here below.

On the day of your child's/children's Baptism, the Church pledged to you, the parents, our assistance in raising them in the practice of the faith to keep God's commandments as Jesus taught us, by loving God and our neighbor.
Here at Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Religious Education Program is a part of this integral formation in the faith that would include daily prayer at home, family participation in Sunday Mass (and on Holy Days of Obligation), periodic Confession, as well as the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy flowing out from your dinner table.
Online registration for the 2023-2024 school year for grades Kindergarten through 8th Grade opened on Wednesday, June 6, 2023. All returning families were emailed registration instructions. New families to our program can find the link to the registration form on our website.
In-person classes are held once per week. This 2023-2024 Class schedule will not be based on School District, as in previous years, and will offer more flexibility for parents. Registration will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

Bible Discussion Group study of St. Mark
will kick off on Tuesday, September 5th
The Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Bible Discussion Group has assembled on Tuesday evenings for over a year to reflect on the Gospels of Saints Luke and Matthew, the Letters of Saint Peter and the Book of Ruth. Between 15 and 25 parishioners gathered to read, analyze, and discuss Sacred Scripture from 7:00-8:30PM in the lower church while enjoying a little dessert and each other’s company.
The Group is taking the summer off, but all parishioners and friends are invited to join us when we begin examining the Gospel According to Saint Mark in preparation for next Liturgical Year (B starts in Advent 2023) on Tuesday, September 5th at 7:00PM in the lower church.
All voices are welcome, so please consider joining the discussion when the new school year begins and probe the Scriptures with greater insight from the Gospel study used, your own prayerful considerations and that of your fellow Christians journeying towards our eternal home together.

The IHM Class of 1956 reunion will take place on Saturday, August 12th. The class members will gather in the IHM parking lot at 5:00PM and then take a brief tour of the school. LAMP Catholic Ministries: Seeking Missionaries
Do you feel called to live the Gospel radically? LAMP Catholic Ministries is currently seeking candidates to serve as missionaries with the materially poor in New York City. LAMP Missionaries accompany and serve the materially poor and homeless in the spirit of St. Francis through street evangelization, ministering in materially poor parishes, providing crisis pregnancy support, offering a Catholic faith presence in shelters for homeless families through prayer and Scripture sharing groups, and much more. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for an open-air concert, worship (Mass and Adoration), games, exhibitions, food for purchase, and the gift shop. The evening ends with fireworks on the upper field. The Marian Shrine is located at 174 Filors Lane, Stony Point, New York.
