My dear friends,
What has a relationship with Jesus Christ cost you and me in this life? What about being part of Christ's Body, the Church, and the salvation that she affords us? What have we had to ask for, sell, sacrifice or exchange to ensure that Divine Wisdom in the flesh, the pearl of great price, the discovered treasure, is not left as we go through life?
When we come to Mass this Sunday and see the gifts of bread and wine being brought up and the collection being offered, may we spiritually add to the gift of our weekly/monthly/yearly offering all other realities and things that having Jesus and His Church in our lives have cost us, and allow them to be blessed by Jesus at the altar, presented in obedient worship by Him to our Heavenly Father, and transformed by the Holy Spirit as we receive the very substance of Jesus in Holy Communion.
You are not hearing things...thanks to Dr. Laurie Adamo for setting it up, our carillon system (digital bells) are ringing! This new system was provided by our archdiocesan insurance after the old system was knocked out in Hurricane Irene of August 2021. From 9am to 9pm daily, and before each Sunday Mass, our bells will ring!
Speaking of our wonderful music program, this October our parish will be hosting a presentation of Mozart's Requiem on Friday, October 27th at 7:30pm. Thank you Dr. Adamo for coordinating it and Dr. Justin Bischof for conducting it. Please see the flier below for further information and to get you tickets before we open it up beyond the parish. Save the date!
Last September our IHM Parish Picnic was a wonderful event to welcome everybody back from the summer months and build up our community. This year's picnic will be on Sunday, September 17th from 1-4pm. Further information will follow. Pray for perfect weather once again!
Following the pamphlets given us by the Christophers organization, you will find new and difference ones in the rack at the entrance to our Marian Chapel. Various ones will be added as the months progress.
Our hearts and prayers go out to our local Salesian religious community in New Rochelle and Port Chester on the death of Father Thomas Provenzano, SDB, a priest in his 50's who was born in Bronxville, from Immaculate Conception in Tuckahoe and had taught for a number of years at Salesian High School. May he rest in peace and may his family be consoled by the love of Jesus and the Catholic community.
Monday, July 31st is the Feast of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits who provided timeless insight into the workings of the spirit of Jesus Christ in a person's life. His famous prayer may be an apt reflection during this Sunday's Gospel:
Suscipe ("Receive" in Latin)
Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty,
my memory, my understanding,
and my entire will,
All I have and call my own.
You have given all to me.
To you, Lord, I return it.
Everything is yours; do with it what you will.
Give me only your love and your grace,
that is enough for me.
Have a blessed Sunday!
