My dear friends,
I have a certain affinity for the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (July 16th) and the Carmelite Religious Order. My parents married on this day in 1966 and my uncle (mother's brother) was a Carmelite Priest of the North American Province of Saint Elias (Middletown is their provincial house) and he passed in 2008. The Brown Scapular is a wonderful devotion that we have in our Catholic Spiritual Family. Perhaps of interest for those who have never heard of it - more information on this link.
The Sacred Scripture Conference this past week was wonderful for the mind and soul, with over 250 priests present for solid fraternity. We know that "ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Jesus Christ", as Saint Jerome said. He translated the Bible from Hebrew and Greek into the language of his day - Latin (the Vulgate Bible!).
I hope that Gospel and Acts of the Apostles IHM summer challenge is getting in gear for you and me!

Sunday, July 16, 2023 | Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time | Matthew 13:1-23
Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches the parable of the sower. “A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil... and it withered for lack of roots. Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it. But some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.”

Like the foolish sower, God’s love is so extravagant that it defies all of our expectations of what is reasonable.

We are looking for more volunteers to cook for the HOPE Community Supper Program. The need is greater than ever. Cooking is done at home and delivered to the Church, it is then picked up and delivered to HOPE Community Services in New Rochelle (www.hopecommunityservices.org).
- Timing: Held every third Friday, and also the occasional 5th Tuesday of the month. NEXT HOPE SOUP KITCHEN Drop off: Friday, July 21, 2023 by 11:00AM – if you have perishable food and can bring it close to 11:00am, please do so.
- If cooking is "not your thing" we could use help with shopping for other food items

Midnight Run thanks everyone for their continued support and is looking for the following items for our next Run in late July: Men's jeans with waist sizes of 32 to 38 and inseams from 30 to 34; men's sneakers between sizes 10 and 13; baseball type caps; travel size toiletries especially shampoo and deodorant; and blankets. The need locally is great and any donated item is welcome, thank you!

On the day of your child's/children's Baptism, the Church pledged to you, the parents, our assistance in raising them in the practice of the faith to keep God's commandments as Jesus taught us, by loving God and our neighbor.
Here at Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Religious Education Program is a part of this integral formation in the faith that would include daily prayer at home, family participation in Sunday Mass (and on Holy Days of Obligation), periodic Confession, as well as the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy flowing out from your dinner table.
Online registration for the 2023-2024 school year for grades Kindergarten through 8th Grade opened on Wednesday, June 6, 2023. All returning families were emailed registration instructions. New families to our program can find the link to the registration form on our website.
In-person classes are held once per week. This 2023-2024 Class schedule will not be based on School District, as in previous years, and will offer more flexibility for parents. Registration will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

- IHM Women's Prayer Group: Weekly prayer gatherings for women are offered each Thursday from 7:00-8:00PM in the Church Library or at the Blessed Mother Statue outside. For more information, please contact the Rectory (914-723-0276 or ihmchurch@ihmscarsdale.org).
- Charismatic Prayer Meeting at the House of Prayer: On Wednesdays at 7:30PM in the Chapel & Thursdays of Prayer after the 9:00AM parish Mass.
- The Centering Prayer Group meets on Wednesday's at 10:00AM in the Church Library. Newcomers are always welcome. Meetings last around 45-60 minutes. The format includes: 20 minutes of Centering Prayer (a silent prayer form in the Christian contemplative tradition in which we seek to open our minds and hearts to the Divine Life within), Lectio Divina (a prayerful reading of Scripture) and a brief discussion. - Catholic Widows and Widowers of Yonkers is a social, religious and bereavement organization that helps to meet the needs of its membership. - The Church of St. John the Evangelist and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church of White Plains will hold its annual “Festa Italiana” on July 13th, 14th, 15th, and 16th, on the Church grounds of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church (92 South Lexington Avenue, White Plains). Thursday & Friday 6PM – 11PM, Saturday 5PM - 11PM and Sun. 2PM – 9PM. Our “Festa Italiana” features live Italian and American music and entertainment, an outdoor dance floor, children’s games and entertainment, great Italian foods & desserts, American fare, espresso bar, and much more. Admission and entertainment are free. Please join the “Procession of the Statue of Our Lady of Mount Carmel ” on Sunday, July 16th for a public procession of prayer to honor the Virgin Mary. Worshipers in the procession of our Patron Saint will assemble in front of OLMC Church at 12:30 pm. The procession will begin at 1:00PM followed by the celebration of Holy Mass at 2:00PM at OLMC.
