A Happy Independence Day extended weekend to you!
First Saturday of the month Confessions begin at 8am, continue at 9am after Mass and then are at 4-5pm today.
The summer's Sunday Mass schedule begins tomorrow - 8am - 10am - 12 noon!
The Gospel this Sunday gives us a good opportunity to reflect on what place Jesus is in the priorities of our loving, living and life. We know the First Commandment instructs us to have one God, the Lord, and no others. If we really believe and come to know that Jesus is God's Son, who saves us from our sin, grants us the divine life of grace now through the sacraments and the promise of heaven and future resurrection, it will make sense for us to place our relationship with Jesus before all else.
To help us place Jesus back in the first and central place in our lives and in the lives of our families, we need to know Him better. This summer read one of the Gospels and/or the Acts of the Apostles - it is my summer challenge to all of us this July and August!
Also, the video clip right after my article is a good way to appreciate the miraculous space of the Mass in our week.

Eucharistic Adoration is another way for us literally to place Jesus first as we kneel down and worship him during a brief visit to the chapel or for a full hour. Consider signing up for one of our times that needs an adorer - Mondays at 3pm, Wednesdays at 3pm and 4pm, and Fridays at 2pm and 3pm.
Wednesday, July 5th Adoration will resume its usual schedule (7:15am until Monday and Wednesday 9pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays 1pm, and Fridays 8pm).
I will be away for the week visiting my brother, sister-in-law, niece and her family (I have not seen them in almost two years) down in North Carolina.

Here's what ...
It’s been said that familiarity breeds contempt. For Catholics, I think there’s a temptation for familiarity to breed complacency. We are all susceptible of taking for granted that which is closest to us, including the Mass. While Sacred Tradition is very important to understand the fullness of our faith, if we get too comfortable, our experience of Catholicism can be reduced to rituals alone, going through the motions week in and week out, disconnected from our ‘real lives’. I love the quote I heard recently that “true tradition isn’t the worship of ashes but the preservation of fire.” Amen...

- On Monday July 3rd, Mass will only be offered at 9:00AM followed by Holy Hour from 9:30-10:30AM. Confessions, the Miraculous Medal Novena and the Rosary will be offered at that time.
- The usual Monday evening Rosary and Holy Hour will not be held.
- On Tuesday, July 4th Mass will only be offered at 9:00AM followed by Holy Hour from 9:30-10:30AM. All other times for adoration and prayer will be suspended and resume on Wednesday, July 5th.
- On Monday, July 3rd, and Tuesday, July 4th all Parish Offices will be closed in observance of the Independence Day Holiday.
On this Independence Day I am reminded of all those who have sacrificed for my freedom, following the example of your Son, Jesus Christ. Let me not take my freedom, both physical and spiritual, for granted. May I always remember that my freedom was purchases with a very high price.
My freedom cost others their very lives.
Lord, today, bless those who have served and continue to give their lives for my freedom. With favor and bounty meet their needs and watch over their families.Help me to live my life in a way that glorifies you, Lord. Give me the strength to be a blessing in someone else's life today, and grant me the opportunity to lead others into the freedom that can be found in knowing Christ.

Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus lays down the condition for discipleship: “Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me... Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” Well, let’s perform a little thought experiment. Could you imagine any other religious leader or religious founder saying such a thing?
Could you honestly imagine Mohammed saying it? No! He might say, “Whoever loves father or mother more than the Quran...” Could you honestly imagine the Buddha saying it? No! He might say, “Whoever loves father or mother more than my teaching...” Could you imagine Moses saying it? No! Perhaps he would say, “Whoever loves father or mother more than the Lord...”
But they wouldn’t say, “Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me.” This is precisely what Jesus says, which makes all the difference. For he is not one religious founder among many, not one prophet of the truth in a long line of prophets. He is the one to whom all religions, directly or indirectly, point; he is, in person, the truth to which all prophets testify.

Knights of Columbus to Sell Raffle Tickets after Masses Next Weekend
Next weekend, July 8th & 9th, the Knights of Columbus will sell C&B Raffle tickets at IHM after all Masses. This qualifies people for the early-bird raffles.
"The Knights of Columbus raises most of the money it gives away for charitable activities (Food for Families, Coats for Kids) through its Charitable & Benevolent raffle sales. These C & B tickets are $12.00 for a book of four. If you bring your home return labels to our sales outside church on July 8th & 9th you can just add your telephone number when getting your tickets. Cash, or checks made out to "John Keogh Council 2108--K of C" are acceptable. IHM had a $10,000 winner a few years ago." Thank you for your continued support!

Month of the Precious Blood of Jesus
Dear Friends in the Lord:
Currently serving happily as president of the board of directors of the Black and Indian Mission Office, I write to offer thanks for last year's support of $299,716, and I ask for your generosity again as we prepare to collect an offering on Sunday, July 9th for Catholic Missions among Black and Indian People. Established as the first national collection in 1874, it has proved itself to be a successful vehicle to provide for the needs of our African American, Native American, and Alaska Native brothers and sister.
Your participation will provide the presence of missionaries in parishes, schools, religious education programs and many diocesan projects that strengthen the work of the gospel. Your partnership places bibles and catechetical materials, as well as food, shelter, and medical care, in the hands of the priests, consecrated men and women and lay leaders where evangelization efforts are multiplied a thousand-fold. I count on your usual generosity. When you contribute, you join with other Catholics in solidarity with the needy.
Your help with the Catholic Missions among Black and Indian People will assist in making a difference in the lives of our brothers and sisters in these communities throughout the United States. Midnight Run thanks everyone for their continued support and is looking for the following items for our next Run in late July: Men's jeans with waist sizes of 32 to 38 and inseams from 30 to 34; men's sneakers between sizes 10 and 13; baseball type caps; travel size toiletries especially shampoo and deodorant; and blankets. 2023-2024 Registration
On the day of your child's/children's Baptism, the Church pledged to you, the parents, our assistance in raising them in the practice of the faith to keep God's commandments as Jesus taught us, by loving God and our neighbor.
Here at Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Religious Education Program is a part of this integral formation in the faith that would include daily prayer at home, family participation in Sunday Mass (and on Holy Days of Obligation), periodic Confession, as well as the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy flowing out from your dinner table.
Online registration for the 2023-2024 school year for grades Kindergarten through 8th Grade opened on Wednesday, June 6, 2023. All returning families were emailed registration instructions. New families to our program can find the link to the registration form on our website.
In-person classes are held once per week. This 2023-2024 Class schedule will not be based on School District, as in previous years, and will offer more flexibility for parents. Registration will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

- Charismatic Prayer Meeting at the House of Prayer: On Wednesdays at 7:30PM in the Chapel & Thursdays of Prayer after the 9:00AM parish Mass.
- The Centering Prayer Group meets on Wednesday's at 10:00AM in the Church Library. Newcomers are always welcome. Meetings last around 45-60 minutes. The format includes: 20 minutes of Centering Prayer (a silent prayer form in the Christian contemplative tradition in which we seek to open our minds and hearts to the Divine Life within), Lectio Divina (a prayerful reading of Scripture) and a brief discussion. - The Church of St. John the Evangelist and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church of White Plains will hold its annual “Festa Italiana” on July 13th, 14th, 15th, and 16th, on the Church grounds of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church (92 South Lexington Avenue, White Plains). Thursday & Friday 6PM – 11PM, Saturday 5PM - 11PM and Sun. 2PM – 9PM. Our “Festa Italiana” features live Italian and American music and entertainment, an outdoor dance floor, children’s games and entertainment, great Italian foods & desserts, American fare, espresso bar, and much more. Admission and entertainment are free. Please join the “Procession of the Statue of Our Lady of Mount Carmel ” on Sunday, July 16th for a public procession of prayer to honor the Virgin Mary. Worshipers in the procession of our Patron Saint will assemble in front of OLMC Church at 12:30 pm. The procession will begin at 1:00PM followed by the celebration of Holy Mass at 2:00PM at OLMC.
