Happy Solemnity today of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist - the forerunner of the Messiah!
Thank you to all who helped us celebrate our Patronal Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary - to all who provided the music, servers, ushers, lectors and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, and especially on Saturday eve to Tracy and Kris Keelin for organizing the bbq and inflatable children's attractions, to Vincent Piscopo, our chef who cooked the sausage and peppers, and to Theresa and Jeffrey Nicholson and their family who coordinated the Coffee and Donuts after all Sunday Masses!
For well over a year Tom and Rosemary Roche have been leading and hosting a wonderful Bible discussion group using the Navarre Bible series and going through the various Gospels and other books of the Scriptures. Having just finished the Gospel of Matthew this week, the discussion group will take a break for the summer to return the Tuesday evening after Labor Day to peruse the Gospel of Mark. I would like to thank Tom and Rosemary for coming forward and for their time and dedication in leading such a spiritual and communal initiative! And to George and Diana, who hosted the end of the season bbq - what a way to wrap things up!
I would like to welcome back to IHM the class of 1972 of our parish school for their Alumni gathering this evening (a year postponed from their Golden Jubilee)! I hope you are able to cherish your Catholic formation in the faith of Jesus Christ you received, the friends and classmates you made along the way and the memories you have!
In the Archdiocese of New York, we have been blessed with the presence of a monastic community of Dominican Nuns at Corpus Christi Monastery in the Bronx, who pray for the priests of the Archdiocese and also supply our parish with the altar breads for Mass. When I entered seminary (Fall '92) I can never forget visiting the monastery with the seminary community and being introduced to Sister Mary Christine of the Holy Trinity, OP, who was praying specifically for me. We have kept in communication ever since!
Last year the community elected a dynamic, young Prioress (superior) - Sister Mary Catherine, OP!
The nuns will be offering a Discernment Vocation Retreat Day on Saturday, July 22nd from 9am to 4pm for women ages 25 to 45 who are interested in cloistered religious life in the charism of Saint Dominic to discern a possible vocation to their community. Theirs is a life dedicated to the adoration of Our Lord in the Eucharist and of intercessory prayer for the world and, as mentioned above, our priests and seminarians.
Any interested woman should contact Sister Mary of the Sacred Heart at 929-304-8770.
Speaking of Adoration, it is our intention to continue the usual hours of Eucharistic Adoration all summer long Monday through Friday (7:15am until 9pm Mondays and Wednesdays, 1pm Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 8pm Fridays) except for the holidays (Monday July 3rd, Tuesday, July 4th and Labor Day September 4th), when a Holy Hour will be offered only after the 9am Masses. Please consider covering an hour and signing up to be a substitute.
Next Sunday, July 2nd our Summer Mass schedule will return with an 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM and 12:00 noon. Please make a note of this change.

Sunday, June 25, 2023 | Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time | Matthew 7:1-5
Friends, three times in today’s Gospel Jesus tells us not to be afraid. When we fear, we cling to who we are and what we have; we see ourselves as the threatened center of a hostile universe. Fear is the “original sin” of which the Church Fathers speak. Fear is the poison that was injected into human consciousness and human society from the beginning.
And fear is a result of forgetting our deepest identity. At the root and ground of our being there is what Christianity calls “the image and likeness of God.” This means that at the foundation of our existence, we are one with the divine power that continually creates and sustains the universe. We are held and cherished by the infinite love of God.
When we rest in this center and realize its power, we know that we are safe, or in more classical religious language, “saved.” And therefore we can let go of fear and begin to live in radical trust. But when we lose sight of this rootedness in God, we live exclusively on the tiny island of the ego, and our lives become dominated by fear.

IHM Religious Education
2023-2024 Registration
On the day of your child's/children's Baptism, the Church pledged to you, the parents, our assistance in raising them in the practice of the faith to keep God's commandments as Jesus taught us, by loving God and our neighbor.
Here at Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Religious Education Program is a part of this integral formation in the faith that would include daily prayer at home, family participation in Sunday Mass (and on Holy Days of Obligation), periodic Confession, as well as the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy flowing out from your dinner table.
Online registration for the 2023-2024 school year for grades Kindergarten through 8th Grade opened on Wednesday, June 6, 2023. All returning families were emailed registration instructions. New families to our program can find the link to the registration form on our website.
In-person classes are held once per week. This 2023-2024 Class schedule will not be based on School District, as in previous years, and will offer more flexibility for parents. Registration will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

HOLY COMMUNION FOR THOSE
WITH GLUTEN SENSITIVITIES
For any who have sensitivities to Gluten, know that Low Gluten hosts (containing less than 0.002% gluten, <20ppm, fully in accord with Church Canon Law) are available for receiving our Lord in Holy Communion. For those unable to have any gluten, we are happy to offer Holy Communion from a separate Chalice. Please speak with a priest before Mass.
- IHM Women's Prayer Group: Weekly prayer gatherings for women are offered each Thursday from 7:00-8:00PM in the Church Library. For more information, please contact the Rectory (914-723-0276 or ihmchurch@ihmscarsdale.org).
- HSOR: is "a night out in the middle of the week!" Some of our activities are: prayers and pizza, scavenger hunt, faith on film, basketball and more! Meetings will resume later this September 2023!
- Charismatic Prayer Meeting at the House of Prayer: On Wednesdays at 7:30PM in the Chapel & Thursdays of Prayer after the 9:00AM parish Mass.
- College Evenings: We should gather soon to celebrate another year completed and congratulations to graduates! Please contact the group's Coordinator, David Pereira, or the Co-Coordinator, Katya Drohan for more information and the next gathering (ihmchurch@ihmscarsdale.org). - The Centering Prayer Group meets on Wednesday's at 10:00AM in the Church Library. Newcomers are always welcome. Meetings last around 45-60 minutes. The format includes: 20 minutes of Centering Prayer (a silent prayer form in the Christian contemplative tradition in which we seek to open our minds and hearts to the Divine Life within), Lectio Divina (a prayerful reading of Scripture) and a brief discussion. - Boys 11 to 17 are invited to Join Immaculate Heart of Mary Boy Scout Troop 2 Scarsdale. - The Church of St. John the Evangelist and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church of White Plains will hold its annual “Festa Italiana” on July 13th, 14th, 15th, and 16th, on the Church grounds of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church (92 South Lexington Avenue, White Plains). Thursday & Friday 6PM – 11PM, Saturday 5PM - 11PM and Sun. 2PM – 9PM. Our “Festa Italiana” features live Italian and American music and entertainment, an outdoor dance floor, children’s games and entertainment, great Italian foods & desserts, American fare, espresso bar, and much more. Admission and entertainment are free. Please join the “Procession of the Statue of Our Lady of Mount Carmel ” on Sunday, July 16th for a public procession of prayer to honor the Virgin Mary. Worshipers in the procession of our Patron Saint will assemble in front of OLMC Church at 12:30 pm. The procession will begin at 1:00PM followed by the celebration of Holy Mass at 2:00PM at OLMC. - St. Vincent's Hospital Westchester Program Updates: Evening addiction treatment program adds telehealth option in the evening outpatient addiction recovery program. Group sessions Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30PM to 7:30PM. For more information, please call (914) 925-5320 or visit www.stvincentswestchester.org. Also, St. Vincent's summer program for adolescents with substance misuse issues offer support for adolescents aged 13-18 who may be experimenting with substances, or who are struggling with significant substance misuse. - The Serra Club of the Bronx and Westchester cordially invites you to its monthly luncheon meeting. Fr. Peter Pilsner, Spiritual Director to Cardinal Spellman High School on Wednesday, June 28th at 12noon at Eastwood Manor, 3371 Eastchester Road, Bronx. The luncheon consists of fruit, pasta, salad, entrée, dessert, bread, wine, soda, coffee and tea. The cost is $42 per person. - Legal Assistant Position - Life Center Annex - there is currently a Legal Assistant position open at our Life Center. If you or if you know of anyone interested, please submit or have them submit a resume and cover letter. The candidate must be able to read, write and speak Spanish. The Legal Assistant provides direct case management support to the immigration attorney. This is a full-time position up to 40 hours per week with regular weekend work. Flexibility is required as needed. For consideration or to make a referral, please submit a cover letter and resume to apesce@rshmeap.org.
