I write to you from Alma, Michigan, on the silent retreat for the Postulants and Pre-Postulants of the Religious Sisters of Mercy. Would you believe it, my first day here, I met a Sister who asked where I was from in New York. Sister Mary Nika Schaumber, RSM, said her family was from IHM and that she went to our school! Her niece may still be in the parish.
Let us pray for those whom the Lord is calling to consecrated life and priesthood in the Church - for their generous sacrificial response and for the graces their families need.

Know of my prayers and concern for you with the alarming smoke in the atmosphere this past week! Perhaps when we gather at the Altar for Mass this weekend to celebrate the Sacred Mysteries of the Lord Jesus’ Body and Blood, let us beseech our Heavenly Father for Mercy upon us, our State, Nation and world and that we may seek to follow His Will in all things, loving Him above all else and our neighbor for His sake.

To all who ran for this election cycle - thank you for allowing the parish to consider your names (207 parishioners voted) and I appreciate all you already do for the life of IHM Parish. Next week I will publish the list of all the 2023-24 members and to thank those completing their terms.
Fr. Thumma, Fr. Raja and I had a wonderful eve on June 1st with Mrs. Laura Covais celebrating the culmination of our Religious Education year and thanking all the Catechists for their hard work, dedication and witness in the Church of their faith in Jesus! Their’s is truly a labor of love and God knows we need them!
Registration is open now for this Fall - times have been adapted and an extra evening (Tuesday) has been added. Keep in your prayers if the Lord is inviting you to be a Catechist or to assist office in another way, and then let us know!
To all those who pledged a gift to this year’s Cardinal’s Appeal, thank you for your sacrificial generosity. For all still prayerfully considering, it is a beautiful way to participate in the charity shared in our local archdiocesan Church.
As we celebrate Father’s Day next week in society, our Parish will celebrate our patronal feastday - The Immaculate Heart of Mary! Each Mass will conclude with a mini-procession to the statues of the Blessed Mother overlooking the north (school) parking lot. Saturday eve will enjoy a BBQ for all with bounce houses for kids. Sunday will be coffee and donuts after each Mass!
A blessed Sunday this week of the Solemnity of Corpus Christi - the Feast of the Lord Jesus’ Body and Blood in the Eucharist!

Friends, today’s Gospel passage is one of the most shocking in the New Testament. Those who heard it were not only repulsed intellectually; they were disgusted, viscerally. For a Jewish man to be insinuating that you should eat his own flesh and drink his blood was about as nauseating and religiously objectionable as you could get.
So what does Jesus do? Does he soften his rhetoric? Does he offer a metaphorical or symbolic interpretation? Does he back off? On the contrary, he intensifies what he just said: “Amen, amen I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.” As all the scholars point out to us, the verb used here in Greek is trogein, which indicates the way an animal eats.
So what do we do? If we stand in the great Catholic tradition, we honor these mysterious and wonderful words of Jesus. We resist all attempts to soften them or explain them away or make them easier to swallow. We affirm, with all of our hearts, the doctrine of the Real Presence.

On the day of your child's/children's Baptism, the Church pledged to you, the parents, our assistance in raising them in the practice of the faith to keep God's commandments as Jesus taught us, by loving God and our neighbor.
Here at Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Religious Education Program is a part of this integral formation in the faith that would include daily prayer at home, family participation in Sunday Mass (and on Holy Days of Obligation), periodic Confession, as well as the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy flowing out from your dinner table.
Online registration for the 2023-2024 school year for grades Kindergarten through 8th Grade opened on Wednesday, June 6, 2023. All returning families were emailed registration instructions. New families to our program can find the link to the registration form on our website.
In-person classes are held once per week. This 2023-2024 Class schedule will not be based on School District, as in previous years, and will offer more flexibility for parents. Registration will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

FOR EXPECTANT MOTHER CARE
Thanks to all who picked up a bottle for our Baby Bottle collection. Each year this simple collection raises thousands of dollars for Moms and children – with all profits going to support Expectant Mother Care (EMC) in its mission to help mothers and families in crisis pregnancies.
Please remember to fill your bottles with coins and/or checks and return them to IHM on Father’s Day, June 18th. Please make out your checks to Expectant Mother Care. Your generosity saves lives. Thank you for your support!

HOPE COMMUNITY SOUP KITCHEN
NEEDS YOUR HELP
We are looking for more volunteers to cook for the HOPE Community Supper Program. The need is greater than ever. Cooking is done at home and delivered to the Church, it is then picked up and delivered to HOPE Community Services in New Rochelle (www.hopecommunityservices.org).
- Timing: Held every third Friday, and also the occasional 5th Tuesday of the month. NEXT HOPE SOUP KITCHEN Drop off: Friday, June 16, 2023 by 11:00AM – if you have perishable food and can bring it close to 11:00am, please do so.
- If cooking is "not your thing" we could use help with shopping for other food items

- IHM Women's Prayer Group: Weekly prayer gatherings for women are offered each Thursday from 7:00-8:00PM in the Church Library. For more information, please contact the Rectory (914-723-0276 or ihmchurch@ihmscarsdale.org).
- HSOR: Is "a night out in the middle of the week!" Some of our activities are: prayers and pizza, scavenger hunt, faith on film, basketball and more!
- Bible Discussion Group: on the Gospel of Matthew: Tuesdays from 7:00 - 8:30 PM in the lower church. Refreshments served. No Bible Discussion Tuesday June 13th. Bible Discussion will resime and finish for the season on Tuesday June 20th. We will begin with the Divine Liturgy (Mass) at 7pm in the IHM Chapel followed by a discussion of Chapter 28 (The Resurrection Narrative) of the Gospel According to St. Matthew and refreshments in the lower church. This last discussion will finish the Gospel According to St Matthew after a six month study by 20 parishioners. The Bible Discussion Group will take a break during the summer months and resumes the first Tuesday after Labor Day to discuss the Gospel According to St. Mark for 16 weeks leading up to Christmas.

- The Centering Prayer Group meets on Wednesday's at 10:00AM in the Church Library. Newcomers are always welcome. Meetings last around 45-60 minutes. The format includes: 20 minutes of Centering Prayer (a silent prayer form in the Christian contemplative tradition in which we seek to open our minds and hearts to the Divine Life within), Lectio Divina (a prayerful reading of Scripture) and a brief discussion. - Boys 11 to 17 are invited to Join Immaculate Heart of Mary Boy Scout Troop 2 Scarsdale. Visit Boy Scout Troop 2 in the IHM lower Church (201 Boulevard, Scarsdale) on Thursday evenings at 7:30PM. Do you want to canoe, camp, go white water rafting, rock climb, repel . . . all while using life skills like first aid and CPR? Then come try us out! Legatus is an international non-profit organization that brings together business leaders and their spouses at a monthly meeting to help them balance faith, family and business. - The Serra Club of the Bronx and Westchester cordially invites you to its monthly luncheon meeting. Fr. Peter Pilsner, Spiritual Director to Cardinal Spellman High School on Wednesday, June 28th at 12noon at Eastwood Manor, 3371 Eastchester Road, Bronx. The luncheon consists of fruit, pasta, salad, entrée, dessert, bread, wine, soda, coffee and tea. The cost is $42 per person. - Sts. Peter & Paul and St. Ursula Church in Mount Vernon are looking for a part time secretary. General secretarial duties include answering phones, ordering supplies, updating calendar, answering the door and managing Mass requests. Monday – Friday, 4.5 hours per day from 8:30AM to 1:00PM. - Legal Assistant Position - Life Center Annex - there is currently a Legal Assistant position open at our Life Center. The Legal Assistant provides direct case management support to the immigration attorney. This is a full-time position up to 40 hours per week with regular weekend work.
