I believe that I shall see the good things of the Lord in the land of the living.
My dear friends,
As I write this weekly communication, I have returned from an annual anniversary gathering with some of my classmates. This year we prayed for our classmate, Father Fidelis CFR, and spoke over the phone with him from his jail in Michigan (but his mail somehow goes through Florida to be processed...). He is serving an unjust sentence for his role trying to save unborn human life from abortion by offering those mothers red roses in the waiting room (classic case where God's law - the 5th Commandment - supersedes a problematic human law that seeks to protect this violation of vulnerable human life). He is in good spirits, and reports that he is doing well. He is grateful for the prayers and also the letters sent from IHM and even from all over the world. God's grace is at work in his two colleagues in this mission, who are also in jail, by providing for some turn arounds from abortion even from jail and other inmates who are regretting such a terrible decision in the past and being led to God's Mercy. May we never doubt the power of prayer and the presence of those faithful Christians such as Saint Paul in jail (cf. Acts 16:22-34 read this week at Mass).
We have room left on the coach bus (with a bathroom!) that IHM is hiring for Deacon Carlos Germosen's ordination to the priesthood on Saturday, May 27th! Please call the rectory (914-723-0276) to request a seat and join us - departure at 7:15am from the school parking lot for the 9am Mass at Saint Pat's. Return will be 30 minutes after the conclusion of the Mass).
That Saturday morning, Father Richard Njoroge, a Mill Hill Missionary and Parochial Vicar of Saint John the Evangelist - Our Lady of Mount Carmel in White Plains, is scheduled to offer the 8:30am IHM Mass and hear Confessions at 9am to allow Fr. Thumma and me to concelebrate the ordination in the City.
Next weekend the Religious Sisters from the Little Sisters of the Poor will return to IHM to beg for their elderly poor they serve in the Bronx.
Keep Vincent Castaldi in prayer as he is scheduled to be ordained a Deacon in June!
To all our First Communicants who now receive Jesus in the Eucharist - congratulations! And to all who prepared them for this important month: their parents and grandparents, Mrs. Laura Covais our Coordinator of Religious Education along with her catechists and staff and Mrs. Tracy Keelin along with her second grade teacher and teacher's aide - thank you and way to go!
To our parish volunteer gardeners who have been doing a wonderful job with both outside gardens at the Blessed Mother Statues (on Carman and in the parking lot), and those around the school building - thank you for your hard work!
For any students going into grades 7 through 12, who would appreciate a summer camp, Camp Veritas rocks faith and fun! Any child who completes this week before the Sacrament of Confirmation, Camp Veritas will satisfy the requirements for retreat and for service hours here at IHM. Would you be interested in a parish film club? Watching a film together and discussing it could be fun! The IHM Parish Council wants to gauge interest in this possibility. The proposal would be to watch a film with fellow parishioners from 6:45 to 8:45 PM at the parish and to discuss the film from 8:45 to 9:15 PM on a given day.

This Wednesday we welcome Bishop John Bonnici, the Episcopal Vicar of Westchester and Rockland Counties (basically Cardinal Dolan's Auxiliary Bishop for this region) to offer the Sacrament of Confirmation to 109 young people of our parish and school! Given the Liturgies and the Monday practice, Eucharistic adoration will be paused Monday from 3pm until 7:30pm Monday, May 22nd, and then on Wednesday, May 24th conclude at 3pm. Please pray for the Confirmandi that they ask for a powerfully receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Friends, in today’s Gospel, as the Lord anticipates his glorification on the cross, he prays, “Father, the hour has come.” The “hour” was a focal point of Jesus’ entire life. At the outset of his ministry, Jesus declined his mother’s request at the wedding of Cana saying, “Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come.”
Mary is presented here as the new Eve, the new representative of the human race, with whom God is seeking union. But why the aloof and off-putting words? The best explanation, in my judgment, is that this is a narrative device that serves to highlight the importance of Jesus’ “hour” and that shows the relation between what he does at Cana and what will transpire in that hour.
The “hour” is code for the Paschal Mystery, Jesus’ passage through death to life. In that event, God will effect the perfect marriage between himself and the human race, for he will enter into the most intimate union with us, embracing even death itself and leading us into the bridal chamber of the divine life.

LITTLE SISTERS OF THE POOR AT IHM
Please join us in welcoming the Little Sisters of the Poor to our parish next weekend – May 27th & 28th. At Jeanne Jugan Residence the Little Sisters offer hospitality and care for 100 needy elderly men and women. They depend greatly on charity to carry on their mission to the aged and infirm. Any assistance you can give will help them provide for the needs of the elderly entrusted to their care. You may also donate using WeShare through the Little Sisters Bronx website. GOLDEN JUBILEE WEDDING MASS
Couples of the Archdiocese of New York celebrating 50 years of marriage anytime during 2023 are invited to attend the Golden Jubilee Wedding Mass at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral on Sunday, June 4th, at 2:30PM. The Mass will be celebrated by His Eminence, Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan. Each couple may bring up to four (4) additional guests. Couples will be notified if the seating capacity changes and more tickets become available.

Midnight Run welcomes donations all through the year especially as seasons change. There are collection boxes at all entrances of the Church and donations can also be given to the rectory.
Our next Run will be June 3rd and we are once again in need of backpacks, men's jeans (waist size 30 to 40), men's sneakers (size 9 thru 13), men's short-sleeve shirts and light long-sleeved shirts for summer wear (sizes small thru XL), women's tops (small thru XL), gently used baseball caps, shampoo, and deodorant.

FOR EXPECTANT MOTHER CARE
Thanks to all who picked up a bottle for our Baby Bottle collection. Each year this simple collection raises thousands of dollars for Moms and children – with all profits going to support Expectant Mother Care (EMC) in its mission to help mothers and families in crisis pregnancies.
Please remember to fill your bottles with coins and/or checks and return them to IHM on Father’s Day, June 18th. Please make out your checks to Expectant Mother Care. Your generosity saves lives. Thank you for your support!

- IHM Women's Prayer Group: Weekly prayer gatherings for women are offered each Thursday from 7:00-8:00PM in the Church Library. For more information, please contact the Rectory (914-723-0276 or ihmchurch@ihmscarsdale.org).
- HSOR: IHM High School teens in grades 9 through 12 will gather again this week, Wednesday, May 24th at 7:30pm in the lower church! HSOR is "a night out in the middle of the week!" Some of our activities are: prayers and pizza, scavenger hunt, faith on film, basketball and more!

- The Centering Prayer Group meets on Wednesday's at 10:00AM in the Church Library. Newcomers are always welcome. Meetings last around 45-60 minutes. The format includes: 20 minutes of Centering Prayer (a silent prayer form in the Christian contemplative tradition in which we seek to open our minds and hearts to the Divine Life within), Lectio Divina (a prayerful reading of Scripture) and a brief discussion. We invite you to the 55th Annual Salute To Seniors, with three safe, outdoor tented, regional events in Northern, Central, and Southern Westchester. This year's Salute to Senior events will be held at various Westchester County Parks from 10:00AM to 12:30PM on Wednesday, May 24th. Each Salute to Seniors event will feature information on programs, services, and products designed to make life better for our senior community, with a complimentary lunch and enjoyable music provided to the over 2,500 individuals expected to attend. - United Way of Westchester and Putnam is helping residents overcome the transportation obstacles that are hindering their lives. Its Ride United Transportation Access Program offers free Lyft rides to residents without access to a vehicle or public transportation. These rides can be used for non-emergency medical appointments, job interviews, workforce development training, court appearances, and other health and human service-relatedmeetings. - RSVP of Westchester -For half a century, RSVP of Westchester -- an affiliate program of AmeriCorps Seniors hosted by Tarrytown-based nonprofit Volunteer New York! -- has blazed a trail for ensuring people 55 and older in our region find meaningful volunteer work. Organizations and institutions including Family Services Society of Yonkers and the Wartburg Adult Care Center, among many others, rely on our network of seniors and retirees for everything from youth mentorship to supporting older adults as they age in place. And in turn, volunteers maintain vital connections to their communities even after their professional life has wound down. We encourage all our friends and neighbors to apply now and begin a whole new chapter of meaningful engagement. There is no expiration date on good deeds. - Children’s Memorial Mass: On Saturday, June 3rd at 11:00AM, join St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church (1377 E. Main St., Shrub Oak, NY), for our 28th Annual Children’s Memorial Mass where we join together to bear one another’s burdens and pray to God for comfort, strength and renewal. If your child’s name has never been submitted for inclusion in this Memorial Mass, please call our parish office, (914) 528-3547. Light refreshments will be served after the Mass.
- Holy Rosary Church (170 Bradhurst Ave, Hawethorne, NY) is holding their Annual Bazaar/Festival on June 15, 16, 17 (rain date June 18) from 6:00PM - 11:00PM. There will be rides, music, games, food and much more. All are welcome!
