Happy Mother's Day weekend to you! In this month of May dedicated to our Spiritual Mother, while our love and affection for Blessed Mary deepens, may we express our gratitude to God in Mass for the gift of our Mothers. This week we will have a Novena of Masses (nine) offered for the names of Mothers Living and Deceased whom you have shared with us.
Mothers will be invited to take home a carnation flower (thank you Parish Council!) and all are invited to participate in the Baby Bottle Drive for Expectant Mother Care!
We are excited to have our second day of First Holy Communions at IHM! We invite all of those who made this important Sacrament this past month to come dressed for this weekend's Masses in their Communion outfits!
Thank you to Daniella Ashman of the Parish Council for organizing our One Community Planting Event last Sunday! Assisted by Carina and Jack, it was a wonderful event for the families that were able to join!
Ascension Thursday, a Holy Day of Obligation for us as Catholics in the USA, is this Thursday May 18th (Vigil May 17th). While we will offer a reserved Mass for our Religious Education Families to attend (or choose another time or Catholic Church) in lieu of class this week, the other IHM Masses are as follows: 7:30pm Wednesday Vigil and Thursday 6:45am, 9am (School), 12:30pm (after recess) and 5:30pm.
You may notice a statue of Our Lady of Fatima on the Christ the King Altar. Thanks to the Brusco Family, this beautiful statue will be at IHM from May 13th until October 13th this year to commemorate the apparitions of Our Blessed Mother to the children, Saints Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco, on the 13th day of the month from May through October 1917. It will be an opportunity for us to deepen our devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary as we seek to draw closer to Jesus through Mary.

Do sign up for parish transportation, if you wish, by calling the Rectory (914-723-0276) so that we can make appropriate plans. May is a month where we're called to pause and especially say, "Thank you!" for the steadfast, patient, and powerful love of our mothers. Be it with flowers, brunch, or just quality time with her, let's make an extra-special effort to give honor to the woman who brought us into life itself!
May is also a time when we're called to give special honor to Mary, for by her "yes!" she became "the Mother of God," Christ himself. She is also given to us all, by Christ on the Cross to his disciple John, as a symbolic offering of Mary to be the mother of all humanity.

The Ascension of Christ
Jesus "ascends" into Heaven. What does this mean?
We do not believe that Jesus is on a cloud or floating around the galaxy or went "up, up, and away!" For the Jewish people, "heaven" and "earth" are two realms that are connected, not separated. We don't escape the earth or our earthly bodies; the Biblical worldview understands heaven and earth as interacting in a very real way.
When we say that Jesus "ascends," we believe that he is (1) alive and (2) with us still in a very real way. "Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky?" the angels say to the apostles (Acts 1:11). Jesus is still with us now, so let's get to work on bringing about the Kingdom of God in the here and now!

Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus promises to send the Holy Spirit to accompany his disciples. “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth.”
Just a moment before, Jesus had identified himself as the Truth and as, essentially, one with the Father. Thus we find in this first reference to the “Advocate,” the parakletos, a fairly clear proto-Trinitarian formula. As Jesus reflects the Father’s being, so this third seems to reflect the mutuality of Jesus and the Father, since both are involved in his sending.
Just a moment before, Jesus had identified himself as the Truth and as, essentially, one with the Father. Thus we find in this first reference to the “Advocate,” the parakletos, a fairly clear proto-Trinitarian formula. As Jesus reflects the Father’s being, so this third seems to reflect the mutuality of Jesus and the Father, since both are involved in his sending.
The role of the parakletos is that of animating the Church, which Jesus, at least in the ordinary sense, is about to leave. More precisely, he will lead the followers of Jesus into the fullness of truth, maintaining a vibrant continuity with the Lord and hence with the Father:
“The Advocate, the holy Spirit that the Father will send in my name—he will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you.” Notice the densely-packed coinherence that obtains among the three, a one-in-the-otherness into which the Church itself is being invited.

FOR EXPECTANT MOTHER CARE
Each year this simple collection raises thousands of dollars for Moms and children – with all profits going to support Expectant Mother Care (EMC) in its mission to help mothers and families in crisis pregnancies. Funds support mobile units, free ultrasounds and testing, pregnancy assistance, residences for Mothers, and physical, mental, emotional and spiritual support for families. Please pick up an empty baby bottle on Mother’s Day, May 14th and fill it with change, checks, prayers and love! On Fathers' Day you may return the bottle filled with donations for EMC. Please make out your checks to Expectant Mother Care.

Couples of the Archdiocese of New York celebrating 50 years of marriage anytime during 2023 are invited to attend the Golden Jubilee Wedding Mass at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral on Sunday, June 4th, at 2:30PM. The Mass will be celebrated by His Eminence, Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan. Each couple may bring up to four (4) additional guests. Couples will be notified if the seating capacity changes and more tickets become available.

- We are looking for more volunteers to cook for the HOPE Community Supper Program. The need is greater than ever. Cooking is done at home and delivered to the Church, it is then picked up and delivered to HOPE Community Services in New Rochelle (www.hopecommunityservices.org).
- Timing: Held every third Friday, and also the occasional 5th Tuesday of the month. NEXT HOPE SOUP KITCHEN Drop off: Friday, May 19th by 11:00AM – if you have perishable food and can bring close to 11:00am, please do so.

We invite you to the 55th Annual Salute To Seniors, with three safe, outdoor tented, regional events in Northern, Central, and Southern Westchester. This year's Salute to Senior events will be held at various Westchester County Parks from 10:00AM to 12:30PM on Wednesday, May 17th, and May 24th. Each Salute to Seniors event will feature information on programs, services, and products designed to make life better for our senior community, with a complimentary lunch and enjoyable music provided to the over 2,500 individuals expected to attend. Midnight Run welcomes donations all through the year especially as seasons change. There are collection boxes at all entrances of the Church and donations can also be given to the rectory.

HOLY COMMUNION FOR THOSE
WITH GLUTEN SENSITIVITIES
For any who have sensitivities to Gluten, know that Low Gluten hosts (containing less than 0.002% gluten, <20ppm, fully in accord with Church Canon Law) are available for receiving our Lord in Holy Communion. For those unable to have any gluten, we are happy to offer Holy Communion from a separate Chalice. Please speak with a priest before Mass.
Catholic Distance University Graduate Courses: CST 500 Foundations of Catholic Social Thought: This graduate-level course is intended to introduce the classical (Plato, Aristotle, Cicero, and St. Augustine) and medieval (St. Thomas Aquinas) roots of the fundamental principles that make up Catholic Social Teaching (CST). You’ll gain a deeper and more holistic understanding of CST and delve into how these principles are fundamentally challenged by modernity, resulting in the so-called "social question."
Hear from professor Rev. Dr. Avelino Gonzalez-Ferrer of the Archdiocese of Washington, who served on the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity from 2016 to 2021 and is teaching this transformative new course.

- American Red Cross-MNYN Chapter Volunteers are needed for multiple roles and all training is provided free of charge! Must commit to a minimum of six months to join! - Jeanne Jugan Residence: Private rooms with private bathroom/shower for low-income seniors, 65 and older are available in the Throggs Neck area of the Bronx. - Children’s Memorial Mass: On Saturday, June 3rd at 11:00AM, join St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church (1377 E. Main St., Shrub Oak, NY), for our 28th Annual Children’s Memorial Mass where we join together to bear one another’s burdens and pray to God for comfort, strength and renewal. If your child’s name has never been submitted for inclusion in this Memorial Mass, please call our parish office, (914) 528-3547. Light refreshments will be served after the Mass.
- Holy Rosary Church (170 Bradhurst Ave, Hawethorne, NY) is holding their Annual Bazaar/Festival on June 15, 16, 17 (rain date June 18) from 6:00PM - 11:00PM. There will be rides, music, games, food and much more. All are welcome!
- Family Service Society of Yonkers Summer Buddies Programs: Volunteers Needed! Help children build literacy skills this summer. Program Location: Yonkers Riverfront Library. For more information contact Madeline Finesmith at mfinesmith@fssy.org or call (914) 273-1116
