Friday was the First Anniversary of our beloved former Pastor IHM (2018-2020), Father Thomas Lynch. Mass was offered at 6:45am for his repose and his family's consolation.
To all who gave a donation to our Easter Flowers, thank you! It enables the Saint Veronica's Guild to see to the sanctuary being beautifully adorned throughout the year.
Please consider supporting Deacon Carlos Germosen, who served his pastoral year at IHM from 2020 to 2021, by attending his Priesthood Ordination at Saint Patrick's Cathedral on Saturday, May 27th at 9:00am. Tickets are not needed. It is my hope to have transportation from IHM at 7:15am for those interested, but please RSVP to the Rectory by May 19th so that we can arrange a coach or smaller bus.
On Trinity Sunday, June 4th at 10:30am, IHM looks forward to welcoming back the future-Father Carlos Germosen to celebrate Mass! He will offer this Mass for Father Lynch, who welcomed him the summer of 2020 to IHM as the parish was reopening from the pandemic lockdown. A reception will be offered in the lower church following this Mass so that we can receive Father Germosen's First Priestly Blessing.
Interested volunteers who would like to assist with the reception would be appreciated. Please contact the rectory (914-723-0276).
A member of the IHM Parish Council will be speaking briefly at each Mass this Sunday and Saturday Vigil to encourage anyone who is interested serving on next year's Council to register online by this Sunday evening. More information is below.
During this Easter Season, celebrating the new life of Jesus Risen from the dead, I will baptize Baby Cecilia Bizzarro at the 12noon Sunday Mass!
The first two Saturdays of May, IHM will have First Holy Communions for our School and Religious Education students! Please pray for our Communicants and their families. All who make their First Holy Communion are encouraged to wear their wonderful outfits to Sunday Mass (Saturday Vigil) the day after! There will be a crowning of the statue of the Blessed Mother at the 9am Mass on May 7th and 14th.
The role of a Catechist is very important in the life of the Church. Pope Francis has given a liturgical ceremony to the Church to highlight its importance. We are blessed at IHM with a number of dedicated catechists who serve our parish children each week from parents, to teachers, to students, to parishioners, to others who have served throughout the years. But we need more dedicated catechists to fulfill the great need at hand! Please consider being a catechist here at IHM to assist with the religious formation of our approximately 650 students. 2023 Parish Council Nominations
Nominations for 4 members of the Parish Council are being accepted. Any registered member of the parish, at least 18 years old, is eligible to run for the Council.
The Parish Council serves an important advisory role in the Church to the Pastor on the life of the Parish. Council members are afforded an opportunity to be informed of the current scope of all that goes on at IHM as well as encouraged to bring various perspectives, experiences, and suggestions forward for consideration.

Please give some consideration for yourself or someone you know who would make a good candidate to run for elections and, if elected, serve up to 3 years.
Parish Council members commit themselves to attend approximately 8 meetings a year typically held on the third Monday of the month at 7:15PM in the Church rectory. Council members will also be expected to take a leadership role in the various Parish Council events as well as in the particular area of Parish life they are interested in or involved in already.

Catherine knew the terrible bondage of sin and counseled many men and women through their dysfunction and turmoil. She urged anyone who would listen to embrace the radiant love God is offering to every man and woman up and down the ages!

Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus identifies himself as the sheepgate and says, “Whoever enters through me will be saved.” Well, does this mean that only explicit Christians will be saved? Does it mean that unless you are baptized, you don’t receive the Holy Spirit?
There are two extremes to be avoided here. On the one hand, the exclusivist claim that only baptized Catholics can be saved. That is not the teaching of the Church. But the other extreme (I think more prevalent today) is that one’s religion is finally a matter of indifference as long as one finds himself on a spiritual path.
This second view doesn’t give nearly enough weight to the uniqueness of Christianity. With Jesus Christ, something altogether new has entered the world, something that is deeply pleasing to God and therefore of salvific significance to us.
This is the power and message of the cross, that dynamic into which we the baptized have been drawn. Redemptive suffering is what Jesus did on the cross: putting up with suffering for doing what is right. This is pleasing in God’s eyes, precisely because it is redemptive for the world, precisely because it takes away something that God hates.

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER

The National Day of Prayer is an annual day of observance held on the first Thursday of May, designated by the United States Congress, when people are asked "to turn to God in prayer and meditation". The president is required by law to sign a proclamation each year, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day.
The National Day of Prayer is a vital part of our heritage. Since the first call to prayer in 1775, when the Continental Congress asked the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation, the call to prayer has continued through our history, including President Lincoln’s proclamation of a day of “humiliation, fasting, and prayer” in 1863. In 1952, a joint resolution by Congress, signed by President Truman, declared an annual national day of prayer. In 1988, the law was amended and signed by President Reagan, permanently setting the day as the first Thursday of every May. Each year, the president signs a proclamation, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day. Last year, all 50 state governors plus the governors of several U.S. territories signed similar proclamations.

Recently, Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance was honored with the Scarsdale Foundation’s first ever Spotlight Award. In appreciation for this award, and in cooperation with Westchester based volunteer ambulance organizations the Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps will be offering a community wide CPR training program taking place on May 7th at Scarsdale High School.
American Heart Association Family & Friends® CPR Class

Fee: $10 per person
Did you know over 80% of cardiac arrests occur at home? CPR is a skill that is easy to learn and can possibly save your loved one's life in an emergency.
This CPR class is geared to those family members who are 12 and older with the ability to deliver chest compressions while kneeling on the floor. You and your loved ones will learn child and adult Hands-Only CPR, how to use an AED and perform a choking rescue. The two-hour program will include class instruction and hands-on practice using CPR manikins and AEDs.
This AHA Family & Friends® CPR Class is for people who want to acquire CPR skills but do not require certification for their workplace or career. The course is perfect for community groups, students, grandparents, moms, dads, and anyone looking to improve their lifesaving skills and be prepared for an emergency. Since seating is limited, you need to register for this event.

IHM’S ANNUAL BABY BOTTLE COLLECTION
FOR EXPECTANT MOTHER CARE
Each year this simple collection raises thousands of dollars for Moms and children – with all profits going to support Expectant Mother Care (EMC) in its mission to help mothers and families in crisis pregnancies. Funds support mobile units, free ultrasounds and testing, pregnancy assistance, residences for Mothers, and physical, mental, emotional and spiritual support for families. Please pick up an empty baby bottle on Mother’s Day, May 14th and fill it with change, checks, prayers and love! On Fathers' Day you may return the bottle filled with donations for EMC. Please make out your checks to Expectant Mother Care.
- IHM Women's Prayer Group: Weekly prayer gatherings for women are offered each Thursday from 7:00-8:00PM in the Church Library. For more information, please contact the Rectory (914-723-0276 or ihmchurch@ihmscarsdale.org).
- HSOR: IHM High School teens in grades 9 through 12 will gather again this week, Wednesday, May 3rd at 7:30pm in the lower church to assist with preparations the future Midnight Run. HSOR is "a night out in the middle of the week!" Some of our activities are: prayers and pizza, scavenger hunt, faith on film, basketball and more!

The Archdiocese’s incoming Superintendent of Schools, Sr. Mary Grace Walsh, ASCJ, Ph.D., spent a full day at the Archdiocese’s headquarters on Tuesday as she prepares to begin her new role in July.
Cardinal Dolan announced Sister Walsh’s appointment as the new Superintendent on March 27.
She is set to take over from the current Superintendent, Michael Deegan, who announced his retirement earlier this year. She sat down with us to talk about her new role:

Couples of the Archdiocese of New York celebrating 50 years of marriage anytime during 2023 are invited to attend the Golden Jubilee Wedding Mass at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral on Sunday, June 4th, at 2:30PM. The Mass will be celebrated by His Eminence, Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan. Each couple may bring up to four (4) additional guests. Couples will be notified if the seating capacity changes and more tickets become available.

We invite you to the 55th Annual Salute To Seniors, with three safe, outdoor tented, regional events in Northern, Central, and Southern Westchester. This year's Salute to Senior events will be held at various Westchester County Parks from 10:00AM to 12:30PM on Wednesday, May 10th, May 17th, and May 24th. Each Salute to Seniors event will feature information on programs, services, and products designed to make life better for our senior community, with a complimentary lunch and enjoyable music provided to the over 2,500 individuals expected to attend.
