My dear friends,
It is good to be back home after a brief, but wonderful visit to the Eternal City-Rome! Know I explicitly remembered our parish and all who make up our special community of faith at the tomb and at the bones of Saint Peter. May this incredible Apostle pray for us!
It was wonderful to see a number of familiar faces and friends from 2 1/2 years ago from colleagues in the office, to waiters at coffee bars, to my Italian tutor, to seminarians, clergy and religious, and to be able to receive the Holy Father Pope Francis' blessing at his Wednesday General Audience in the Square, have some local Roman pasta dishes, visit the other Major Basilicas of Saint Paul's, Santa Maria Maggiore and the Cathedral of Rome - Saint John Lateran! It was a blessing to be at the North American College Seminary during these days and to support the good work done there!
The Gospel for this Sunday is the powerful Easter Afternoon and Evening of Saint Luke's Gospel - the Road to Emmaus! The thoughts below of Bishop Barron are very insightful:
"The ultimate means by which we understand Jesus Christ is not the Scriptures but the Eucharist, for the Eucharist is Christ himself, personally and actively present. The embodiment of the Paschal Mystery, the Eucharist is Jesus’ love for the world unto death, his journey into godforsakenness in order to save the most desperate of sinners, his heart broken open in compassion."
This weekend I will be giving a plug to "The Good Newsroom" website and app. It is the next generation of The Catholic New York that finished printing last year.
Friday will be Fr. Lynch's First Anniversary - April 28th. It is the intention, with the blessing of the Parish Council from last year, to memorialize Father in the parish garden next to the statue of the Blessed Mother. IHM will offer the 6:45AM IHM Mass this Friday for our beloved late Pastor.
Fr. Carlos Germosen is to be Ordained a Priest on the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend! There will be open seating on the sides at the Cathedral and I would like to organize transportation for the parish (be it a bus, if there is enough interest, or car-pool if a more modest response). Please see the details below for more information. Call the Rectory if you are interested and leave your name and number.
As you are aware, my classmate from ordination, Father Fidelis Moscinski, CFR, (whose patronal Feast day is this week), is serving an unjust prison sentence for his witness to vulnerable human life in its unborn stage.

2023 Parish Council Nominations
Nominations for 4 members of the Parish Council are being accepted. Any registered member of the parish, at least 18 years old, is eligible to run for the Council.
The Parish Council serves an important advisory role in the Church to the Pastor on the life of the Parish. Council members are afforded an opportunity to be informed of the current scope of all that goes on at IHM as well as encouraged to bring various perspectives, experiences, and suggestions forward for consideration.

Please give some consideration for yourself or someone you know who would make a good candidate to run for elections and, if elected, serve up to 3 years.
Parish Council members commit themselves to attend approximately 8 meetings a year typically held on the third Monday of the month at 7:15PM in the Church rectory. Council members will also be expected to take a leadership role in the various Parish Council events as well as in the particular area of Parish life they are interested in or involved in already.

Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus joins two disciples on the road to Emmaus, but they do not recognize him. In the course of their conversation, he opens the Scriptures to them, disclosing the great biblical patterns that make sense of the “things” they have witnessed. IHM Parish Council:
Trip to St. Patricks Basilica in NYC
IHM's Parish Council is offering a trip to tour the original St. Patrick's Basilica in lower Manhattan on Tuesday, May 2nd.
The Church was designated a Basilica in 2010 and is a beautiful building whose history dates back to the early 1800's.
Many of New York's earliest clergy and politicians are buried in the cemetery
and the crypt below. The Church is still a working parish in the neighborhood.
This will be an all day event (please gather at 9:30AM in the church parking lot),
and will include some steps to the crypt
as well as walking around the cemetery and to nearby restaurants for lunch.
A $35 fee will cover round trip transportation and entry to the Basilica.
Lunch is not included.

Recently, Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance was honored with the Scarsdale Foundation’s first ever Spotlight Award. In appreciation for this award, and in cooperation with Westchester based volunteer ambulance organizations the Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps will be offering a community wide CPR training program taking place on May 7th at Scarsdale High School.
American Heart Association Family & Friends® CPR Class

Fee: $10 per person
Did you know over 80% of cardiac arrests occur at home? CPR is a skill that is easy to learn and can possibly save your loved one's life in an emergency.
This CPR class is geared to those family members who are 12 and older with the ability to deliver chest compressions while kneeling on the floor. You and your loved ones will learn child and adult Hands-Only CPR, how to use an AED and perform a choking rescue. The two-hour program will include class instruction and hands-on practice using CPR manikins and AEDs.
This AHA Family & Friends® CPR Class is for people who want to acquire CPR skills but do not require certification for their workplace or career. The course is perfect for community groups, students, grandparents, moms, dads, and anyone looking to improve their lifesaving skills and be prepared for an emergency. Since seating is limited, you need to register for this event.

Midnight Run welcomes donations all through the year especially as seasons change. There are collection boxes at all entrances of the Church and donations can also be given to the rectory.
Our next Run will be June 3rd and we are once again in need of backpacks, men's jeans (waist size 30 to 40), men's sneakers (size 9 thru 13), men's short-sleeve shirts and light long-sleeved shirts for summer wear (sizes small thru XL), women's tops (small thru XL), gently used baseball caps, and toiletry items.

- HSOR: IHM High School teens in grades 9 through 12 will gather again this week, Wednesday, April 26th at 7:30pm at the church. HSOR is "a night out in the middle of the week!" Some of our activities are: prayers and pizza, scavenger hunt, faith on film, basketball and more!

- Charismatic Prayer Meeting at the House of Prayer: On Mondays at 7:30PM in the Chapel & Thursdays of Prayer after the 9:00AM parish Mass.

- The Centering Prayer Group meets on Wednesday's at 10:00AM in the Church Library. Newcomers are always welcome. Meetings last around 45-60 minutes. The format includes: 20 minutes of Centering Prayer (a silent prayer form in the Christian contemplative tradition in which we seek to open our minds and hearts to the Divine Life within), Lectio Divina (a prayerful reading of Scripture) and a brief discussion. Couples of the Archdiocese of New York celebrating 50 years of marriage anytime during 2023 are invited to attend the Golden Jubilee Wedding Mass at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral on Sunday, June 4th, at 2:30PM. - The Vatican International Exhibit of Eucharistic Miracles is being held at the Marian Shrine, located at 174 Filors Lane, Stony Point, NY 10980 in Fr. Tae-Seok John Lee Hall from May 4th through May 9th. The Eucharistic Miracles Exhibit was created by Blessed Carlo Acutis and contains an extensive assortment of photographs and historical descriptions on 187 panels of many of the Eucharist miracles that took place throughout the world, and which have been recognized by the Church. The facilities at the Marian Shrine are handicapped accessible and there is no cost to attend this event.
