Here we are once again at the most Sacred Week of our Christian calendar - the Week of our Salvation! While between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday all the Liturgies and devotions are provided to help us enter into Jesus' Passion, Death and Resurrection - a reality we became partakers in when we were baptized, this week should be different regardless if we are traveling or at home.
Last weekend was an eye-opener for many to see at our Parish Ministries Fair all the various groups, prayer, activities, service, studies and gatherings that take place here at IHM! Once again thank you to Eileen Tobin, Jack Larkin and all who volunteered for something that will have to be an annual offering at the parish!
Please pray for my ordination classmate, Father Fidelis Moscinski, CFR, and his companions, who have been jailed in Michigan for their peaceful protest encouraging woman and their boyfriends to continue their pregnancies rather than abort their children. Click here for the local news story.
After Palm Sunday the three dioceses of the lower New York State are offering a power packed day of the Sacrament of Confession! On Reconciliation Monday, April 3rd, each parish from Montauk to Bayridge, from Tottenville to Tivoli, is asked to have Confessions from 2-4pm and 6-9pm. Do take advantage of this grace before Easter!
Please know that blessed Palm will be available in the church also on Monday.
Tuesday will be the Chrism Mass at Saint Patrick's Cathedral where our Archbishop, Cardinal Dolan will bless the new Holy Oils. The Oil of Catechumens will be used to anoint all infants and children just before Baptism, as well as our three catechumens (the Elect) on Holy Saturday morning. The Oil of the Sick (or the Infirm) will be used to anoint our parishioners who are ill with the hope of recovery, going in for surgery, under the burden of age or chronic disease and those who are passing from this world. The Sacred Chrism Oil will be used for every child immediately after baptism, to Confirm our three new Catholics at the Easter Vigil, all our young people receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation on May 24th from Bishop Bonnici, and Deacon Carlos Germosen when he will be ordained a priest Memorial Day Weekend (see invite below)!
Join us for the chanting of the official Morning Prayer of the Church at 9am on Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday, and for the Sacred Triduum! The schedule is below. Remember that Good Friday is a Day of Fast and Abstinence.

Friends, on this Palm Sunday, Matthew’s magnificent Gospel of the Passion bids us to reflect on the seriousness of sin.
To be sure, the Gospel proclaimed by the first Christians involves the glorious Resurrection, but those initial evangelists never let their hearers forget that the one who had been raised was none other than the one who had been crucified.
So the question was—and remains—why would God’s salvation of the human race have to include something as horrifying as the Crucifixion of the Son of God?
Here’s the point. The Scriptural authors understand sin not so much as a series of acts as a condition in which we are stuck. No amount of merely human effort could possibly solve the problem. Something awful had to be done on our behalf in order to offset the awfulness of sin.
With this biblical realism in mind, we can begin to comprehend why the Crucifixion of the Son of God was necessary. The just rapport between God and human beings could not be re-established either through our moral effort or with simply a word of forgiveness. Something had to be done—and God alone could do it.

What is Palm Sunday
More than just a day to poke our siblings with palms and hear the longest Gospel reading of the year, Palm Sunday is the important beginning of Holy Week, the most sacred time of the Church's calendar year.
There are so many figures in the readings this Sunday who reveal our humanity to ourselves. The loving devotion of Mary, the treachery of Judas, and the fearfulness and weakness of Pontius Pilate. Peter, the headstrong leader and first pope of the Church, declared "Though all may have their faith in you shaken, mine will never be" (Mt 26:33) would shortly thereafter exclaim "I do not know the man!" when questioned on his relationship with Jesus (Mt 36:72). The crowds who welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem shouting, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" only a short time later cry, "Crucify him!"
Where are we in this story? Who do we identify with? How can I take time to focus on Christ's unwavering love for me at the start of this holiest of weeks?

What is "the Triduum"?
The three days that end our Holy Week (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday) are called "The Triduum."
It opens with Holy Thursday—table fellowship between Christ and his apostles as they celebrate the Passover. He washes their feet, calling them to servant leadership and to continue this Eucharist through the ages: "Do this in memory of me" (Luke 22:19).
But betrayed, tortured, and sentenced to death, we mourn the death of our Lord as he offers himself up on the Cross. Friday is "Good" because Jesus completes his mission, atoning for the sin of the world and, in doing so, reforming our capacity for a relationship with the Father.
The earth sits in silence on Saturday for the King is dead. "He descended into hell," we recite in the Creed. It is a day of mystery, fascination, and unnerving stillness, for God is dead, and we killed him.
But, as we know the end of the story, even death will not have the final say.

What did Jesus do during His final week leading up to His Passion? Holy Week is the sacred time in which we remember and reflect on the final days of Christ's life.
This Holy Week, walk as a family alongside Jesus during the final and most important moments in His life.
A Guide Through Holy Week: As a family, take a few minutes each day this Holy Week to read the summary of that day below. Click the day to read the entire Bible story. Then, use the color to complete the activity below.
Palm Sunday: The day Jesus enters Jerusalem and the crowds joyfully sing: "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord" while waving palm branches. Color green for the palm branches
Holy Monday: The day that Jesus cursed a fig tree outside the Jerusalem Temple. He then cleanses the Temple, overturning the money tables and exclaiming, "My house shall be called a house of prayer." Color brown for the tables
Holy Tuesday: The next day, the apostles see that the fig tree Jesus had cursed has withered and died. Jesus then explains what this means. Color purple for the figs
Holy Wednesday: Also known as Spy Wednesday, this is the day in which Judas Iscariot betrays Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. Color gray for the thirty pieces of silver Judas was given
Holy Thursday: The day of the Last Supper, when Jesus eats the Passover with His apostles and washes their feet. Color blue for the washing of the feet
Good Friday: The day in which Jesus is condemned to death. He carries the Cross all the way to Calvary where He is crucified and dies for our sins. Color red for the blood of Christ
Holy Saturday: The day in which Jesus' body lays within the tomb and His soul descended into the realm of the dead, to bring the Gospel to all the righteous men and women who died before Him. Color black for the darkness within the tomb

Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord
Dear friends in the Lord:
Each year, the Holy Father asks every Catholic parish to collect a Good Friday offering to assist Christians in the Holy Land, now less than 2% of the population. The collection supports the work of the Franciscans in the sacred shrines and parishes, provides formation and education in the communities and schools, and cares for the basic needs of the people there.
It has never been easy to be a Christian, especially in the Holy Land. In these challenging times in the Middle East, they are experiencing unique hardships. Today, they are the descendants of those who first believed and lived the Christian faith. It is important that they continue to live, work and pray in the Holy Land. We have an opportunity to help them through our generous contributions.
Pilgrims are finally, slowly returning to the holy places after two very difficult years that really put to the test the small and fragile Christian presence there.
In addition to ensuring the vitality of the shrines, this offering allows Catholics the opportunity to express their solidarity with our brother and sister Christians. He joined the Eastchester Police Department in 2002, was promoted to Sergeant in 2009, to Lieutenant in 2018, to Executive Officer in 2020, and in 2022 he was promoted to Chief of the Eastchester Police Department. He had previously served as a K-9 handler as well as a member of the Department's Emergency Response Unit.

For any who have sensitivities to Gluten, know that Low Gluten hosts (containing less than 0.002% gluten, <20ppm, fully in accord with Church Canon Law) are available for receiving our Lord in Holy Communion. For those unable to have any gluten, we are happy to offer Holy Communion from a separate Chalice. Please speak with a priest before Mass.

To any of our parishioners that are homebound or elderly, please reach out to the Rectory if you are interested in having a priest from the Church visit to hear Confession, receive an Anointing for healing and then to receive Jesus in the Eucharist.
