My dear friends,
I hope all of you had a wonderful celebration of the Solemnity of Saint Patrick - the Patron Saint of the Archdiocese of New York, and that you will have a beautiful celebration of the Solemnity of Saint Joseph (liturgically observed on Monday this year) - the Patron of the Universal Church!
Allow me to bring up a very serious matter with you:
For the last two Sundays I have been made aware of a host being found on the floor of our church in two separate places after the Sunday Masses. Unless someone has gained access to an unconsecrated host, I presumed that what has been left on the floor is the holy Eucharist, whom we believe is Jesus' Real Presence of His Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity. The Eucharist is not a mere symbol that points us to Jesus or something we give meaning to during and only at Mass. No, we worship and adore our beloved Lord Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and He graciously wants to give Himself to us for our spiritual nourishment and to prepare us for the bodily Resurrection to Glory. It is wholly inappropriate at best, and sacrilegious at worst needing reparation, for the Eucharist to be strewn on the floor. I hope and pray that this has been a big misunderstanding...
Allow me to review a few things about the Blessed Sacrament through this wonderful article on Holy Communion.
Please click here. Here is a more in-depth section from the US Catholic Bishops on Holy Communion
by clicking here. May I ask parents to review how to receive with your children?
For adults, may I suggest that if both hands are unable to be free to receive safely in the hand, to consider receiving on the tongue.
To prevent the possibility of the Eucharistic from being inappropriately taken back to the pew, please remember to consume the Sacred Host by stepping to the side before returning to your pew.
Please consider signing up for an hour of Adoration during the week in our Marian Chapel
by clicking here.
We look forward to our 8th grade Girl Scouts Troop 1960 selling Cookies after the 9:00am, 10:30am and 12 noon Masses this Sunday!
We are getting our parish directory started. Shortly parishioners will be contacted to share an appropriate group photo of everyone in their household for the directory, if they are interested. It is the hope that this will be a wonderful way to build-up our parish community by putting names and faces together.
We are also offering a professional photographer to take (registered parishioners only) household photo (whether you are an individual, a couple or a family). You will receive a free copy of the digital photography and the parish will receive your household photo for the directory.
Mike will be available tomorrow, March 19th in the Marian Chapel after the 7:30am Mass and the 9:00am Mass.
Mike will be available next weekend, March 25/26 after the 5:30pm Vigil, 10:30am Sunday and 12 noon Sunday Masses in the Lower Church to coincide with our Parish Ministries Fair!
It is my hope to bring Mike back in the future as needed to fill in and then update our new parish directory.
Please schedule some time March 25th and 26th after whatever Mass you attend to come down to the lower church and consider all the various ministries, organizations and activities our parish offers and how the Lord is inviting you to participate in deeper and perhaps newer ways this year.
May I make a request to those who so generously prepare/donate food for the HOPE soup kitchen? Please only deliver perishable food (including fruit/vegetables) on the morning of the collection. Unfortunately, we do not have the proper refrigeration/storage space for perishables. Best solution, if this is not possible, would be to give it directly to HOPE in New Rochelle. Thank you for your understanding.
This past week, Father Thumma and I offered the Sacrament of Reconciliation to our students in Religious Education preparing for First Holy Communion! This coming week those in IHM School will make their First Confessions! We will address any needing another time due to absence/illness.
During Lent all the children in grades three and above in both the School and in Religious Education, as well as HSOR, will have an opportunity to go to Confession.
For all College age, young adults and adults - Know that Monday of Holy Week will be Reconciliation Monday in New York! We also offer other times below.
I really appreciated being with the St. Veronica's Guild last Saturday for a Day of Lenten Recollection - what a wonderful sense of community and friendship you have! Thank you for the invite!
A blessed Sunday to you!
