As our parish celebrates the 95th Anniversary of IHM School next Saturday, February 25th at the 5:00pm Mass, followed by a 6:30pm Gala at Mulino's at Lake Isle, we are blessed to welcome His Eminence, Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan! Our Archbishop is scheduled to be the Principal Celebrant of the Vigil Mass and hopes to join us at the reception! All are welcome to our parish Vigil Mass and I look forward to being with the 300 guests who have registered to be at the Gala as we honor JoAnn Murphy (posthumously) and Theresa Nicholson!
After months of praying at the outside statue of our Blessed Mother in darkness, light has finally returned! The old wiring was shot and new wiring had to be installed.
Congratulations to Ilean who was accepted into the Catechumenate last Sunday. She, along with two prior catechumens in our Order (or Rite) of Christian Initiation of Adults, will be sent down to the Cathedral of Saint Patrick's later this month to be officially enrolled as they prepare for Baptism at Easter!
We wish all success to the Midnight Run this evening and please accept my gratitude for all who have a wonderful part in making this act of concrete love possible: those who sort and fold donations, those who go down on a winter night to distribute, those who make sandwiches and food, others who bag toiletries, underwear and socks, and all who donate new pants and other necessary items - thank you!

While Ash Wednesday is not a Holy Day of Obligation to attend Mass, as the beginning of Lent it is incumbent upon us to enter into this sacred preparation for the Paschal Mysteries of Holy Week and Easter with prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Catholics ages 14 and up are obliged to abstain (avoid) meat on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays of Lent, including Good Friday. Catholics ages 18 to 59 inclusive, unless serious health reasons dictate otherwise, are to fast for Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Wherever we may find ourselves this Ash Wednesday - home near IHM, work in the City or on a winter vacation, we can enter into the spirit of the Lenten Season and perhaps even receive the sacramental of blessed Ashes that calls us to conversion in humility while we still have the breath of life.
May I suggest taking up a deeper prayer life with our Lord in the Eucharist this Lent and invite you to Adoration in our Marian Chapel? Except for the holiday on Monday, we will offer times for quiet reflection on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:15am to 1pm, now on Wednesdays from 7:15am to 9pm (please sign up for the 11am, 3pm and 4pm hours!) and Fridays from 7:15am to 8:00pm. Non-holiday Monday adoration is from 7:15am to 9:00pm. We will try to have Rosary and Adoration on Monday eve in the Marian Chapel (therefore ending the live-stream at this hour). While in the Marian Chapel, consider lighting a real candle! Thanks to the generosity of two wonderful families, we now have the Saint Killian's Candles (same as found at St. Pat's Cathedral). One of the candle banks will be lovingly dedicated in Memory of Laurence Broderick with an appropriate plaque.
I never expected to bid adieu to Father Jeevan Kumar Kamalapuram a second time this school year, but here we are! After assisting on Staten Island for November and December, Fr. Jeevan was free to help out once again at IHM, and Fr. Thumma and I gladly welcomed him back to help cover for some weeks while we visited family. Thank you, Father Jeevan, for your generous service and all the best as you travel Friday to Rome, Italy! Arrivederci!

Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus commands us to love our enemies.
And Jesus showed us how to do it. Immediately after being fixed to the cross, he said, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” One of the most important elements of Jesus’ kingdom ethic was, accordingly, the praxis of forgiveness: “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”
As Walter Wink has pointed out, these recommendations have nothing to do with passivity in the face of evil. Rather, they embody a provocative but nonviolent manner of confronting evil and conquering it through a practice of coherent love. By forgiving those putting him to death, Jesus is awakening them to the truth in which they already stand: their connectedness to him and to each other in God.
And Jesus showed us how to do it. Ash Wednesday: Repent & Believe!
While it's not a holy day proper, Ash Wednesday is, interestingly, a day when Catholics all over the world feel the need to attend Mass.
There's something in us that calls us to participate in this kickoff to Lent. It's like the opening ceremony of the Olympics. With these funny ashes on our foreheads, now we can begin the Christian game anew, taking on the specific challenges of renewed prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.
Ashes are an external sign of penance. They are a reminder that we all will experience death and we don't have forever to repent, to "get right" with God. Jesus has victory over death in the end. With him by our side, what have we to fear?
As our Lenten season begins, how will this year be different?
What concrete steps will you take to allow Jesus to live in you more fully?
Who will you trust to walk alongside you as companions and friends?
Consider watching this message from Bishop Barron on how to "get the most out of" Lent this year, pondering these questions:
- What challenges do I foresee this Lent?
- How can I create a new routine of prayer this week?
- When I fast, who can I offer up my discomfort for? Who can I pray for?

We are looking to expand the involvement of our parishioners in four important Liturgical Ministries:
- Altar Server - Grade 4 to college-aged
- Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion - Adult
- Lector - High School and older
- Usher - Adult
Please consider getting involved, your service will help our parish and offer you the opportunity to grow in a specific way in your faith. Support and training will be provided for all interested persons.

- IHM Women's Prayer Group: Weekly prayer gatherings for women are offered each Thursday from 7:00-8:00PM in the Church Library. For more information, please contact the Rectory (914-723-0276 or ihmchurch@ihmscarsdale.org).
- HSOR: IHM High School teens in grades 9 through 12 will gather again on Wednesday, March 1st at 7:30pm in the lower church. HSOR is "a night out in the middle of the week!" Some of our activities are: prayers and pizza, scavenger hunt, faith on film, basketball and more!
- Bible Discussion Group: on the Gospel of Matthew: Tuesdays from 7:00 - 8:30 PM in the lower church. Refreshments served. The group is discussing the Gospel According to St. Matthew. If you have any questions, please call Tom & Rosemary Roche at (914) 725-1148.
- Charismatic Prayer Meeting at the House of Prayer: On Mondays at 7:30PM in the Chapel & Thursdays of Prayer after the 9:00AM parish Mass.
- Forming a new parish young family group: Any father or mother of a young one who would be interested in some weekly prayer and socializing with other parents of young child(ren), please contact the rectory (ihmchurch@ihmscarsdale.org or 914-723-0281).

- The Centering Prayer Group meets on Wednesday's at 10:00AM in the Church Library. Newcomers are always welcome. Meetings last around 45-60 minutes. The format includes: 20 minutes of Centering Prayer (a silent prayer form in the Christian contemplative tradition in which we seek to open our minds and hearts to the Divine Life within), Lectio Divina (a prayerful reading of Scripture) and a brief discussion. Do you want to canoe, camp, go white water rafting, rock climb, repel . . . all while using life skills like first aid and CPR? Then come try us out!
