We had a wonderful Catholic Schools Week! From last Sunday's 12noon Mass, to both a Religion Bee and a Math Bee, Open Houses, welcoming of grandparents, a Donut truck, finding out that the 5th graders do know a lot, getting throats blessed and a hard-fought game revealing that the 8th graders have more energy, ability and game than us faculty and parents, it was a beautiful and fun week!
The Blessing of Throats through the intercession of Saint Blaise will be given at all Masses this weekend.
I look forward to celebrating the 9am Scout Sunday Mass and thank God for the wonderful Troop 2 here at IHM!
Very soon all those who are Lectors and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (commonly called Eucharistic Ministers) and those who have asked to join will be contacted to participate this Lent in the online formation that the Archdiocese of New York offers. It will be good for both continuing formation of the veterans, as well as a great way to bring onboard new members.
You have seen new Altar Servers! Practices will be offered this coming week for those wishing to join the ranks and assist at the Altar in grades four through college age. To accommodate various schedules (especially the Religious Education Program), please meet in the church at one of the following times: Monday, February 6th at either 4:30pm or 5:45pm or Wednesday, February 8th at either 4:30pm or 5:45pm. We will do a walk through to get down the initial basics of serving at IHM. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.
This Wednesday, February 8th at 7:30pm, our HSOR high school group will be hosting a presentation from GenLife (Generation Life) at IHM. All High School Students are welcome!
Missionaries from Our Lady of Angels Parish in the Bronx, our beloved Father Thomas Lynch’s previous parish before he was assigned in Scarsdale, are hosting a raffle to finalize construction of a school for disabled children in the Dominican Republic. Fr. Lynch led a number of Mission Trips there. The school will named in honor of Father Lynch as he was instrumental in the inception of the building. Tickets are $10. First prize is a 65” television, Second Prize is $300 and Third Prize is $100. The raffle will be held on February 12. As we celebrate National Marriage Week (see below) and pray for our married couples of IHM, we are aware that both society and the Church pass through the family and need the grace of God to be the salt and light of the world. As Baptized Catholics our Church asks that a marriage either takes place in the Church or, if a spouse is not Catholic or Christian, with the permission or dispensation of the Church. To help ensure the ability to live Jesus' grace and to be able to participate fully in Confession and the Eucharistic, if there are any couples who may not have been married with the blessing of the Catholic Church, pending any impediments, we would like to offer the Convalidation of your Marriage in the Catholic Church.
The easiest way to get started is to reach out to Father Thumma or to me to assist you with this beautiful movement of grace in your life. It will be worth the time and effort!

Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus asks, “If salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned?” That question ought to bother us as much today as it did Jesus’ audience long ago. What he means is that a weak Christianity is a disaster for the world, for the world depends upon the Christian Church in order to become what it was meant to be.
Consider the truly awful gun violence in the streets of Chicago and other large American cities. A vibrant Christianity would actively get in the way of this affront to human dignity. Vibrant Christian churches would rub salt into the earth of this violence; vibrant Christian witness would be a city set on a hill.
Consider the tens of millions of unborn eliminated since Roe v. Wade. I would be willing to bet that the vast majority of the mothers and fathers of these murdered children came from a Christian background. Why wasn’t their Christianity strong enough to function as salt and light? Why wasn’t their faith illuminating enough to shine a light into the darkness of what they were doing?
The clear implication is that without vibrant Christians, the world is a much worse place.

Month of the Hidden Life of Jesus
Dear friends in the Lord:
One of the great works of Popes throughout history has been to show mercy to the poorest people around the world. This is made possible by our participation in the annual Peter's Pence collection.
Catholic tradition calls us to join with the ongoing activities of the Holy Father and contribute to his charitable activities on behalf of those who are most in need.
This gesture has not only a practical value, but also a strong symbolic one, as a sign of communion with the Pope. Your generosity to Peter's Pence facilitates much- needed support. Daily do hurting people approach the successor of St. Peter for help.
The family of the Church especially mourns the death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI last month. In that spirit, I write to you today, asking that you prayerfully consider as an act of mercy and charity, a generous donation to this distinctive offering which will be collected next Sunday, February 12. As we anticipate the Feast of the Chair of St. Peter on Wednesday, February 22, we join with our brothers and sisters in faith from around the globe to help Pope Francis reach the most marginalized in our world. IHM Troop 2 is celebrating its 84th Anniversary at the 9:00AM Family Mass on February 5th! Scout Sunday is the traditional day to recognize the contributions of young people and adult leaders to Scouting and the community.
Boys and parents in the 5th through 11th grade who are interested in finding out more about Troop 2 are invited to visit us after the 9:00AM Mass in the lower church during our annual Communion Breakfast and Court of Honor. National Marriage Week & World Marriage Day
The observances of National Marriage Week (Feb. 7-14) and World Marriage Day (Sunday, Feb. 12) are an opportunity to focus on building a culture of life and love that begins with supporting and promoting marriage and the family. This year's theme, "Marriage...one flesh, given and received" highlights the one-flesh union of husband and wife that is willed by God. It also indicates the personal self-gift of each spouse, one to the other. These concepts point to Christ who gives Himself under the appearance of bread and wine—as real flesh and blood.

Almighty and eternal God, You blessed the union of married couples so that they might reflect the union of Christ with his Church: look with kindness on them. The Retreat Chaplain will be Fr. Justin Cinnante, Chaplain of Iona Prep High School (and former Chaplain of Archbishop Stepinac High School).
The Retreat will begin with dinner on Friday evening at 6:00PM at the Don Bosco Retreat Center and conclude Sunday at 12noon. The cost of the retreat is $250 and includes two nights of single occupancy rooms and all meals. Registration can be confirmed by mailing a $30 deposit (check to I.H.M. - Charismatic Prayer Meeting at the House of Prayer: On Mondays at 7:30PM in the Chapel & Thursdays of Prayer after the 9:00AM parish Mass.

- The Centering Prayer Group meets on Wednesday's at 10:00AM in the Church Library. Newcomers are always welcome. Meetings last around 45-60 minutes. The format includes: 20 minutes of Centering Prayer (a silent prayer form in the Christian contemplative tradition in which we seek to open our minds and hearts to the Divine Life within), Lectio Divina (a prayerful reading of Scripture) and a brief discussion. - Boys 11 to 17 are invited to Join Immaculate Heart of Mary Boy Scout Troop 2 Scarsdale. Visit Boy Scout Troop 2 in the IHM lower Church (201 Boulevard, Scarsdale) on Thursday evenings at 7:30PM. Do you want to canoe, camp, go white water rafting, rock climb, repel . . . all while using life skills like first aid and CPR? Then come try us out!
