My dear friends,
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are ready to move into Advent as we prepare these next four weeks for the Nativity of our Lord Jesus!
This week IHM will increase hours of Eucharistic Adoration ON MONDAY AND FRIDAY ONLY from after the 6:45am Mass until 10pm on Monday and 8pm on Friday. Rosary and Confessions will be offered as usual on Monday evening. We still need an Adorer for the 3pm slot Monday and 9am and 4pm hours Friday. As the other days have more committed adorers, those hours will also increase. For now Tuesday through Thursday will remain 9:30am-1pm. Thank you to all who signed up!
It was really something to see the incredible generosity in response to the Cornerstone collection for our Servicemen and women stationed abroad! To Debbie Bracken, who coordinates the drive, and to our Principal Tracy Keelin, and the School for an incredible amount of the donations, to our Confirmation candidates who assisted and to Galloway’s Bakery - thank you! The good people of Galloway’s Bakery received wonderful monetary donations for Cornerstone that will help us pay for the shipping. Our parish’s Social Ministry account will also match the funds from Galloway’s.
Thank you to all who gave for our Thanksgiving collection. Know it helped a number of people who come knocking at the parish’s door.
Fr. Thumma’s relatives had a wonderful visit and are now back at school!
This week we welcome once again another guest, a good friend, Jenna Cooper, a consecrated Virgin of the archdiocese and a Canon Lawyer of Bishop Barron’s diocese, to the House of Prayer. Jenna will be presenting a talk in Manhattan at the Catholic-Jewish dialogue on behalf of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops. Thank you Sister Nancy, Sr. Anna and Sr. Theresa for your hospitality!
We look forward to our parish’s Family Advent Wreath making at 1pm in the lower church this Sunday! Thank you Laura Covais for organizing it. If you have not registered and would like to come, availability will depend upon supplies.
The Sacrament of Confession has been offered this past month to most of our Religious Education students and Fr. Thumma and I look forward to finishing all of the classes and offering the Sacrament to our School students. It is the plan to have all our young people in faith-formation receive the graces of the sacrament at least before Christmas and before Easter each year.
In the Church’s commitment to preach the Gospel of Jesus in its entirety, the Scripture readings at our Sunday Masses are on a three-year cycle and our daily Mass readings are on a yearly cycle for the Gospels and a two-year cycle for an overwhelming amount of the other passages in Scripture. As we begin this weekend the first-year ‘A’ Cycle of the Sunday readings and focus on the Gospel of St. Matthew, our Bible Discussion group will meet at 7pm this Tuesday in the chapel for Mass, followed by discussion of the first chapter in the lower church until 8:30pm. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome! Thank you Tom and Rosemary Roche for leading us!
Next Saturday, after the Vigil Mass, our Parish Council’s One Community will sponsor a Cocoa and Carols in the lower church!
With the IHM Development Committee, I am very honored to announce our honorees for our parish Gala, which will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023. As we celebrate the 95th Anniversary of the School, we will give thanks to God and honor JoAnn M. Murphy (posthumously) and Theresa Vaccaro Nicholson! Please join in this wonderful celebration!
Enjoy the World Cup Soccer matches!
A blessed Sunday to you!
