Thank you to all who donated Baby items for the month of October, as well as those gathering Cornerstone donations now, others faithfully cooking for HOPE soup kitchen each month and participating in the food collections for our pantry and for HOPE, and all who keep up with the Midnight Run needs!
Our College group core team met this past Thursday and planned some upcoming gatherings, including a service project in January - more info is below - stay tuned!
It is good to update our Parish's Sick List periodically, which you will see amended below. If a parishioner (or a close family member of a parishioner) would like to be remembered or returned to our Parish's Sick List, please contact the Rectory.
Since November is the month where we remember the Faithful Departed, our Annual Bereavement Mass will be held Saturday, November 19th at 8:30am. We will read off the names of all who had a Funeral at IHM in the past year, as well as those close family members who may have been buried elsewhere. A second annual Mass for Parents who have lost a Child (adult, youth, child or before birth) is scheduled for Friday, November 18th at 7:30pm in the church.
This time of year, parishes give in their 2023 calendar of offertory envelopes to the company that sends them out. Please note that except for Christmas, IHM is no longer including envelopes for movable Holy Days of Obligations unless they land on a Sunday (e.g. of such Holy Days that will no longer have an envelope at IHM on weekdays are: Holy Mary Mother of God, Ascension Thursday, Assumption, All Saints Day and the Immaculate Conception). Know that in the months of July and August we try to keep the second collections to a minimum. Thank you for your sacrificial generosity to the needs of the Church: parish, archdiocese, in the USA and universally!
Among our funerals this upcoming week, today at 10am we bury Joan Keating, who served for years bringing Holy Communion to the homebound. Next Friday at 1pm, a long-time Usher, Gabriel Angiello, will have a Memorial Mass.
We need to find a way to publicize upcoming funerals of parishioners, especially those that take place during the week.
Next weekend (November 19-20), we will welcome a couple of seminarians from Saint Joseph's who will be offering tickets for the Dunwoodie Car Raffle being held in conjunction with their Advent/Christmas Concert.
Looking ahead to Thanksgiving, IHM will have Mass on November 24th at 9:00am. Since the day after is a holiday for so many, we will change Mass on November 25th to 9:00am, as well. Usual Weekday Adoration will be suspended Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The Saturday, November 26th Mass will be as usual: 8:30am.

ADORATION AT IHM
The IHM 2023 Mass Intention Book is open for online Mass intention requests. Please use the link below to view available Masses for 2023 and to reserve Mass Intentions. Mass Intentions will remain opened until all available Masses have been requested. For those who are unable to utilize the online feature, stop by the rectory, email IHMchurch@IHMscarsdale.org or call (914) 723-0276.
Operation Cornerstone will be collecting food items, toiletries and sundries to send to our soldiers who are serving overseas and will not be home for the holidays. We will be partnering with United For The Troops again this year, who will pick up the donations from IHM, they will then package and mail the boxes to the troops. Any monetary donations to help defray the cost of mailing the packages can be left at the rectory.
Suggested donations are:
Food: Pringles (snack size), Trail Mix, instant oatmeal, granola bars, store bought cookies, crackers, power bars, nuts, Slim Jims, Beef Jerky, Pop Tarts, Easy Mac Microwave Cups, tuna fish, canned chicken, spam, sardines, peanut butter (plastic only), jelly & jam (plastic only), cereals (individual size), chili, stew, pasta, soup (16 oz or smaller), gum & Lifesavers, coffee & filters, hot chocolate packets, tea bags, drink mixes (single serve).
Toiletries: Foot powder, feminine hygiene products, hand sanitizers, baby wipes, ChapStick & lip balm, cough drops, Tums, Rolaids, eye drops, disposable razors, shave cream (non aerosol), toothbrushes & toothpaste, dental floss, mouthwash, shampoo, eyeglass cleaning wipes, skin moisturizer, deodorant, bars of soap, body wash, Q-tips, nail clippers, files, hair brushes and combs, hair clips, ties and bands.
Sundries: Undershirts, boxers, crew socks, playing cards and dominoes, travel games, stress balls, crossword puzzles, word search, Sudoku, comic books, air fresheners (hanging car type), hand warmers, dryer sheets, Zip-loc bags (gallon and quart size).
Letters of Support: Service men and women love receiving cards and letters of support.

Friends, today in the Gospel, Jesus describes the world’s violent resistance to the establishment of God’s kingdom. From the earliest days until the present, the community of Jesus Christ has been the focus of the world’s violence. The old principle of “killing the messenger” applies here. The Church will announce, until the end of time, that the old world is passing away, that a new world of love, nonviolence, and life is emerging. This announcement always infuriates the world of sin—always. The twentieth century proved this by being the bloodiest on record—and the one with the most martyrs.
Jesus promises to give us “a wisdom in speaking that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute.” What do we do in the meantime? We maintain a detachment from this world that is passing away, our eyes fixed on the world that will never end. And we speak—confidently, boldly, provocatively—the message of the Gospel, the dying and rising of the Lord.

TIME CHANGE FOR BIBLE STUDY AT IHM
The IHM Bible Discussion Group is focusing on the Second Epistle of Saint Peter on Tuesdays from 7:00-8:30PM in the lower Church. On November 15th, the Book of Ruth will be covered. All are welcome to join their fellow parishioners discuss this Catholic Epistle. Refreshments are served for the participants' convenience. Consider becoming part of this spiritual renewal during the Year of the Eucharist as part of our parish building fellowship!
The group will take Thanksgiving Tuesday off and begin the Gospel According to St. Matthew on November 29th with a Mass in the Chapel at 7:00PM and the discussion on Chapter 1 in the lower church afterwards. The Intention for that Mass is A Greater Love for and Understanding of Sacred Scripture at IHM Parish and throughout the world.

- We are looking for more volunteers to cook for the HOPE Community Supper Program. The need is greater than ever. Cooking is done at home and delivered to the Church, it is then picked up and delivered to HOPE Community Services in New Rochelle (www.hopecommunityservices.org).

Plunge with the Eastchester Team on Saturday, November 12th at 10:00AM at the Westchester Country Club Beach Club in Rye, NY.
Paul Asaro, an Eastchester resident, graduate of Eastchester High School and Special Olympics Gold Medalist, will join Team Eastchester at the Polar Plunge on November 12th. Paul is a stand out athlete in Special Olympics, most recently earning the Gold Medal (open water swim event) and Silver Medal (triathlon) at the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games.
Paul was a stand-out athlete at EHS, too! He was the Most Valuable Player on the EHS Winter Track team (1996-97) and recipient of the Coaches Award of EHS Track and Cross County teams (1997). Paul knows the importance of Special Olympics in providing athletic opportunities to students and individuals of all abilities!

Vatican Announces Theme for
World Communications Day 2023
Pope Francis’ theme for the next World Communications Day is a call for a peaceful dialogue that allows the uncomfortable truths to be spoken of without resorting to contentious and hostile debate. Speaking the truth means giving a reason for your hope and doing so gently, using the gift of communication as a bridge and not as a wall the Vatican said when it announced the theme of World Communications Day 2023.
Each year the Vatican and many dioceses mark World Communications Day on the Sunday before Pentecost; in 2023, it will be celebrated on May 21st. The Pope’s choice for the theme is: “Speak With the Heart: Veritatem Facientes in Caritate” (Speaking the Truth in Love).
We are looking to expand the involvement of our parishioners in four important Liturgical Ministries:
- Altar Server - Grade 4 to college-aged
- Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion - Adult
- Lector - High School and older
- Usher - Adult
Please consider getting involved, your service will help our parish and offer you the opportunity to grow in a specific way in your faith. Support and training will be provided for all interested persons.

The Mall Walk at The Westchester Returns
The Mall Walking Club meets every Tuesday and Friday, from 8:00AM to 10:00AM at The Westchester in White Plains. It’s a great way to enjoy the benefits of walking, no matter what the weather outdoors. To join, sign up at the horse fountain on retail level 2 (located between Crate & Barrel and Urban Outfitters) on Tuesday and Friday mornings during the program. Healing After Abortion:
Do you know someone who is carrying the grief of a past abortion? There is always hope. The pain and sorrow of abortion does not need to endure for a lifetime. - The College Evenings: Next gathering will be on Thursday, December 8th at the 7:30pm Mass for the Immaculate Conception followed by a gathering with food in the Rectory Conference Room. - The Centering Prayer Group meets on Wednesday's at 10:00AM in the Church Library. Newcomers are always welcome. Meetings last around 45-60 minutes. The format includes: 20 minutes of Centering Prayer (a silent prayer form in the Christian contemplative tradition in which we seek to open our minds and hearts to the Divine Life within), Lectio Divina (a prayerful reading of Scripture) and a brief discussion. - Boys 11 to 17 are invited to Join Immaculate Heart of Mary Boy Scout Troop 2 Scarsdale. Visit Boy Scout Troop 2 in the IHM lower Church (201 Boulevard, Scarsdale) on Thursday evenings at 7:30PM. Do you want to canoe, camp, go white water rafting, rock climb, repel . . . all while using life skills like first aid and CPR? Then come try us out! - The Kelly Center of Health Services, the flagship building of the New York-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences, will be named the Kelly Center of Health Services to honor benefactors and graduates, Alfred & Peggy Kelly. It is a feather in the cap of Iona University to be partnered with NY-Presbyterian and can lead to New York Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences being one of the top schools in these important fields of study. The knowledge and training that will emanate from this building will be transformative not only for the students and their families but for the individuals and the communities they serve. The collaboration between NY-Presbyterian and Iona University will help to ensure that the next generation of health care professionals is highly skilled, well trained and compassionate in their care of others. Iona University is a Catholic, co-ed institution of learning in the tradition of the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers. Iona College became Iona University on July 1, 2022.
