My dear friends,
This week we will enter November and celebrate All Saints Day Tuesday and All Souls Day on Wednesday. All month long we will remember the faithful departed and the Souls in Purgatory. Our annual Bereavement Mass will be held on Saturday, November 19th at 8:30am.
I would also like to offer an evening Mass once again for parents who lost a child (older, younger or before birth). No date has been set at this point.
This weekend we bid a farewell to Fr. Jeevan Kumar Kamalapuram, who has been visiting with us for the summer months. His presence and help have been wonderful during these last five months! Father Jeevan will be going to Staten Island. He will have the 4pm Confessions todays and will celebrate the 12 noon Sunday Mass tomorrow.
As you will see below, his cousin, His Eminence Anthony Cardinal Poola of Hyderabad in India, had an opportunity to visit IHM earlier this month, pray in our church and have a dinner that Fr. Jeevan prepared! Cardinal Poola is the first Cardinal from the Dalit class in India (previously known as the "untouchable" class in the caste system) and from the Telugu people. We are honored at his visit to IHM!
Tomorrow I also looking forward to celebrating the 9am Family Mass where we will also welcome our IHM CYO Basketball teams and bless them before they begin their season November 12th/13th. Thank you Greg Doyle for coordinating all of the coaches, players and schedules! Coffee and Donuts will be available following Mass thanks to the kindness of Theresa and Jeffrey Nicholson!
Our IHM CYO Track team received good publicity in a recent track meet (please see the article below) - kudos to our parishioner Stefan Anikewich, director of the CYO cross-country program, Coach Renya Gleb and runner Emilia Plawiak from IHM School!
We will be giving a push this weekend to expand our offering of Eucharistic Adoration times at IHM. It is our hope to begin on November 7th. Please spread the word and give it consideration in your busy schedules.
Keep in joyful prayer Seminarian Carlos Germosen, who served with us from July 2020 until July 2021. He and his classmates will be ordained Deacons on Saturday, November 5th! We will then look forward to welcoming Deacon Carlos back to preaching at IHM's Sunday 10:30am on November 13th!
With all that goes on in the life of our parish, what, or rather Who, keeps us all together and builds up our community? What gives us cohesion is the reality that our Heavenly Father convokes us, assembles us, as His spiritual family each week on the day of His Son's Resurrection from the dead (and holy days of obligation such as Christmas and All Saints' Day). At Mass we hear the Word of God and renew Jesus' Holy Sacrifice on Calvary that has redeemed the world. For us as Catholics, the Eucharist is our spiritual beating heart to which we come to receive grace and then are sent out to live that faith in hope and charity. Without the Eucharist, we do not have the community of the Church. But through the Mass and all the other Sacraments, we are built up as God's People, made holy (sanctified) and give glory and praise to our Heavenly Father!
As Halloween is celebrated Monday and as many people look to be scared, may I suggest reading up on the life of a Martyr Saint and be inspired at the way he or she laid down their life in witness to Jesus: perhaps Saint Denis of Paris, Saint Margaret Clitherow of England and Saint Jose Luis Sanchez del Rio of Mexico.

Friends, today’s Gospel declares in the story of Zacchaeus how quickly God responds to any sign of faith. Zacchaeus’ climbing the sycamore tree shows he had more than a passing interest in seeing Jesus. He had a deep hunger of the spirit. His principal virtue was his willingness to go to great extremes. But this is what we do when we know that something of great moment is at stake. When our health is endangered, we move, we act; when our job is threatened, we go to almost any extreme to keep it.
When Jesus spotted him, he said, “Zacchaeus, come down quickly, for today I must stay at your house.” Christians, God responds to us readily when we show the least interest in him. He doesn’t play hard to get; he is not coy with us. When we seek him, he responds, because loving us is his entire game.
Notice how Jesus tells Zacchaeus to hurry. Don’t wait, don’t hesitate. Seize the moment of conversion when it comes.

ADORATION AT IHM
40 Days for Life is a life-saving prayer campaign that will take place throughout our Archdiocese starting on September 28 and concluding November 6. 40 Days for Life is a peaceful initiative consisting of 40 days of prayer and fasting, peaceful vigil at abortion facilities, and educational outreach with the goal of protecting mothers and their children from abortion. The IHM Bible Discussion Group is focusing on the Second Epistle of Saint Peter on Tuesdays from 7:30-9:00PM in the lower church. The group will NOT meet on November 1st (A Holy Day of Obligation). On November 8th, the Book of Ruth will be covered until November 29th. ALL are welcome to join their fellow parishioners discuss this Catholic Epistle. Refreshments are served for the participants' convenience. Consider becoming part of this spiritual renewal during the Year of the Eucharist as part of our parish building fellowship!
Starting in Advent, when the universal Church begins hearing passages from the Gospel of St. Matthew at Sunday Liturgies (Year A), the discussion group at IHM will examine the Gospel According to St. Matthew. On Tuesday, November 29th we will start off with a Divine Liturgy at 7:00PM in the Chapel before the discussion of Chapter 1 after Mass.

Plunge with the Eastchester Team on Saturday, November 12th at 10:00AM at the Westchester Country Club Beach Club in Rye, NY.
Paul Asaro, an Eastchester resident, graduate of Eastchester High School and Special Olympics Gold Medalist, will join Team Eastchester at the Polar Plunge on November 12th. Paul is a stand out athlete in Special Olympics, most recently earning the Gold Medal (open water swim event) and Silver Medal (triathlon) at the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games.
Paul was a stand-out athlete at EHS, too! He was the Most Valuable Player on the EHS Winter Track team (1996-97) and recipient of the Coaches Award of EHS Track and Cross County teams (1997). Paul knows the importance of Special Olympics in providing athletic opportunities to students and individuals of all abilities!

A FREE Workshop for Family Caregivers Workshop on the following upcoming Mondays: October 31st, November 7th, 14th, 21st from 10:00AM to 12:00PM.
This free online workshop is a series of 6 sessions designed to help family caregivers caring for family members with cognitive challenges that affect memory (like dementia, traumatic brain injury, PTSD and the like). Feminine Genius Brunch
There will be a Feminine Genius Brunch on Saturday, November 12th at 10:00AM at Sonesta White Plains. This brunch borrows its name after those amazing God-given attributes endowed to you as women—receptivity, sensitivity, generosity, and maternity—all of which make up the feminine genius!

Operation Cornerstone will be collecting food items, toiletries and sundries to send to our soldiers who are serving overseas and will not be home for the holidays. We will be partnering with United For The Troops again this year, who will pick up the donations from IHM, they will then package and mail the boxes to the troops. Any monetary donations to help defray the cost of mailing the packages can be left at the rectory.
Suggested donations are:

Runners, Families Enjoying Cross Country Meets at Seminary

Mary O’Keefe just finished watching her grandson Declan win his cross-country race and was enjoying a fall morning on the picturesque campus of St. Joseph’s Seminary in Dunwoodie.
CYO New York is calling St. Joseph’s Seminary home to its cross-country meets this fall.
“Being here at the seminary means everything,” said Mrs. O’Keefe, a parishioner of St. John the Baptist in Yonkers, who walked to the Oct. 8 meet from home along with her husband, Frank, and Declan. “The facilities are gorgeous. The course is really nice. The kids seem to like it. There is plenty of parking for the parents and it’s very accessible for everyone. I think it was a brilliant idea moving it here.”
She added, “It’s the center of our archdiocese. All of our priests, who we’ve known through the years, have mainly been trained here. So there certainly is a strong connection that we have to our faith at the seminary. It’s a special place.”
Stefan Anikewich, the director of the CYO cross-country program, has been involved in the program’s activities for 10 years. He contacted Father William Cleary, the seminary’s vice rector, about using the seminary fields for the 2022 fall season.
“We spoke about CYO and the opportunities,” said Anikewich, who is also the freshman cross country and track coach at Fordham Prep. “He’s an incredible human being, and he granted us permission to use these fields. We’re blessed, we really are.”

Cardinal Poola was appointed Archbishop of Hyderabad in India in 2020 and was elevated to Cardinal by Pope Francis in August. While in New York, Cardinal Poola also met with Cardinal Dolan and Archbishop Gabriele Caccia, permanent observer of the Holy See to the United Nations.
The Mall Walk at The Westchester Returns
The Mall Walking Club meets every Tuesday and Friday, from 8:00AM to 10:00AM at The Westchester in White Plains. It’s a great way to enjoy the benefits of walking, no matter what the weather outdoors. To join, sign up at the horse fountain on retail level 2 (located between Crate & Barrel and Urban Outfitters) on Tuesday and Friday mornings during the program. Holy Mount Columbarium and Terrace Gardens
Holy Mount Cemetery (est. 1882) is nestled in the Lake Isle Section of Eastchester and is under the care of Immaculate Conception-Assumption Parish of Tuckahoe. The Cemetery contains over 5,500 graves and two Mausoleums on 4.5 acres of land off California Road. While there are no full-body burial spots available for purchase, we now have over 1,600 niches available for those who opt for burial through cremation.
Within the beautiful Columbarium and Terrace Gardens, you can ensure that your own or your loved one’s cremains are housed in a holy, Catholic resting place. Each niche holds up to two urns of cremains. We are selling niches which are available for:
