It was good to spend time this past week at the annual Pastors' Conference with a good number of priests, His Eminence Cardinal Dolan and four of New York's Auxiliary Bishops. One of the presentations we received was from Dr. Charles Camosy, who will be sharing a talk on "Bioethics: A Christian Moral Vision" on Thursday, October 20th at Dunwoodie Seminary (see below). A former Fordham University Theology Professor, what Dr. Camosy has to share would be worth people's time and effort.
Tuesday, October 11th will mark the 60th Anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council!
If you have not already seen our new software that will help take Eucharistic Adoration at IHM to more hours for people, click here! We will publicize this for a few weekends and solicit committed adorers and substitutes to help us expand our offerings. There is power spending time in front of Jesus Christ's real and true presence in the Eucharistic. For those who know that experience, think of signing up if you have not already. For those who do not yet know the grace of adoration and prayer, I invite you to spend some time and consider a commitment.

OCTOBER IS RESPECT LIFE MONTH
A bassinette will be set up in front of The Christ The King Altar and will be there for the entire month of October.
Baby items needed: receiving blankets, undershirts and stretchies (6-18 months), diapers, disposable (newborn and next size up) clothing (6-18 months), baby wipes, formula. Please, no large items or furniture.

Sunday, October 9th | Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time | Luke 17:11-19
Friends, today’s Gospel recounts the Lord’s healing of ten lepers, only one of whom comes back to give thanks. Leprosy frightened people in ancient times, just as contagious and mysterious diseases frighten people today. But more than this, leprosy rendered someone unclean and therefore incapable of engaging in the act of worship. It is not accidental that the person responsible for examining the patient in ancient Israel was the priest. The priest’s job was to monitor the whole process of Israelite worship, very much including who could and couldn’t participate in the temple.
What is so important about worship? To worship is to order the whole of one’s life toward the living God, and in doing so, one becomes interiorly and exteriorly rightly ordered. To worship is to signal to oneself what one’s life is finally about. Worship is not something that God needs, but it is very much something that we need.

COLUMBUS DAY
Mass on Columbus Day, Monday, October 10th will be at 8:30AM (please note: there is no 6:45AM Mass.) At 9:00am Adoration with Miraculous Medal Novena, Rosary & Confessions. The Parish Office will be closed in observance of the holiday.
As our nation celebrates Columbus Day, we honor him for discovering America, we also in turn honor all those of Italian ancestry who over the years have come to America to make it their home. They have made so many great contributions to the growth of our nation, society and the church in the United States. We salute them all on this special day!
Cardinal Dolan will celebrate the 45th Annual Columbus Day Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral on Monday, October 10th at 9:30AM.
40 Days for Life is a life-saving prayer campaign that will take place throughout our Archdiocese starting on September 28 and concluding November 6. 40 Days for Life is a peaceful initiative consisting of 40 days of prayer and fasting, peaceful vigil at abortion facilities, and educational outreach with the goal of protecting mothers and their children from abortion. PUBLIC SQUARE ROSARY RALLY
You are invited to the 2022 PUBLIC SQUARE ROSARY RALLY on Saturday, October 15th at 12:00 noon. Will take place in the North Parking lot of IHM Church in Scarsdale by the Grotto of Our Lady. This year as we pray Our Lady’s Rosary and other prayers in her honor, we invoke her blessings on marriage and the family and on our country and the world, and especially for Peace in the Ukraine. This Rally is one of 20,000 rosary rallies, organized by America Needs Fatima, that will take place all over the United States. This is the Saturday closest to October 13th, the day the sun danced at Fatima Portugal. Please make an effort to attend. The Rosary Rally Captain is Priscilla Parameswaran (914) 441-8805. Please bring your lawn chairs and be there on time.

Knights of Columbus Raffle
The Rev. John A. Keogh Council: C&B is the Charitable & Benevolent Raffle program the Knights of Columbus runs each year. It is their main fundraiser and they use those funds to help those suffering from floods, earthquakes and other natural disasters.
C&B raffles will be available after all Masses on the weekend of October 15th & 16th.
The IHM Bible Discussion Group is focusing on the First Epistle of Saint Peter on Tuesdays from 7:30-9:00PM at the parish School. ALL are welcome to join their fellow parishioners discuss this Five Chapter Catholic Epistle. Refreshments are served for the participants' convenience. Consider becoming part of this spiritual renewal during the Year of the Eucharist as part of our parish building fellowship!
Starting in Advent, when the universal Church begins hearing passages from the Gospel of St. Matthew at Sunday Liturgies (Year A), the discussion group at IHM will examine the Gospel According to St. Matthew. On Tuesday, November 29th we will start off with a Divine Liturgy at 7:00PM in the Chapel and go down to the lower Church to discuss Chapter 1 after Mass.

The Catholic intellectual tradition has long benefited from the work of the Order of Preachers, beginning with their founder, Saint Dominic, and the Angelic Doctor, Saint Thomas Aquinas. One feature of the Dominican contribution throughout the centuries has been the ability to apply the Truth of Jesus Christ and the teachings of His Church to the current day.
