A happy feast day today of Saint Therese of Lisieux, whose statue stands right where we enter the church on the school side. Pope Francis and many in our parish have wonderful devotion to the "Little Flower" for her power and beautiful intercession!
October is a month where Catholics give special attention to the Rosary and Our Lady of the Rosary, our spiritual Mother. Consider praying the Rosary each Monday at 7:30pm at the parish or after the 9am morning Masses (8:30am on Saturdays and holidays). If we want greater peace in our lives, may I suggest praying the Rosary as a family at home (begin with a decade and go from there). Our Blessed Mother will bring us closer to her son, Jesus.
Thank you to Meg Drohan, President, and the members of the Saint Veronica's Guild for a lovely Communion Breakfast this past Friday, where some were honored for 50 years and 25 years of membership in the Guild! Thank you for your faithful devotion and committed service to our parish.
The parish day ended with a wonderful Wine Tasting, fresh Mozzarella and antipasti evening in a transformed school auditorium. Thank you Tracy Keelin for organizing this One Community - Parish Council event and to Tony Russo of Aires Fine Wines and Spirits of White Plains and Vincent Piscopo, our cheesemaker!
During the Sunday Masses, Ray Mechmann of our RCIA team will share a few words as we begin a new year's process of forming people in the Catholic Faith. Meetings are Sundays in the school from 1:00-2:15pm.
The Children's Liturgy will begin again at the 9am Mass. Children will be invited after the Opening Prayer to process down to the lower church for readings from the Children's Lectionary and a homily geared towards them. Some parents are welcomes to accompany this gathering.
October is Respect for Life Month and we have various ways to participate at IHM:
After the 12 noon Sunday Mass this week, our parish will offer the Life Chain to peacefully and prayerfully witness to Life and an end to abortion. We will meet in the South Parking lot for instructions and signs and then spread out along Route 22. (I have been notified that this year that the Village of Scarsdale no longer considers it necessary to issue a permit to this witness as it is a Free Speech issue on public property).
Adoration will be available at the same time in the church to pray for the witness and for conversions of hearts and minds.
Following 2pm, high schoolers who participate in the Life Chain are invited for pizza in the lower church.
During this month 40 Days for Life is taking place - a time for prayer, fasting and witnessing for unborn life and for mother's in crisis.
IHM has a great tradition in October of collecting baby items for mother's in need at the bassinet/crib at the Christ the King Altar. Proceeds will be given to the Sisters of Life for the women and children they serve.
Please consider signing up for Eucharistic Adoration.
On Wednesday at 12noon, the 2023 Mass Intentions Book will be opened online (call, email or stop by the rectory for only those who are unable to utilize the inline feature). 2 intentions per person for the first 2 weeks.
Although I will see you this weekend, this week I will be at the annual archdiocesan gathering of pastors for formation and fraternity.

IHM Annual Life Chain: October 2nd
Respect Life Sunday, on October 2nd, kicks off Respect Life Month, a time to pray for the protection of all human life. You can join one of the Life Chains, a peaceful and prayerful public witness for an end to abortion that offers a message of mercy and healing for those suffering as a result of abortion.
Or you can participate in Rosary Coast to Coast, a movement to unite the nation in praying the Holy Rosary for healing of our country and a return to holiness. Information on Rosary Coast to Coast, www.rosarycoasttocoast.com
October 2nd, 1:00PM-2:00PM (immediately following the 12:00PM Mass). We will gather in the South Parking Lot for standardized sign distribution and then take our places silently, prayerfully and spread out along Post Road.
We will also offer Eucharistic Adoration in the Church at this same time (1-2pm) to pray for the fruitfulness of this witness.
High Schoolers who participate are invited to a pizza gathering in the lower church following the Life Chain at 2pm.

40 Days for Life is a life-saving prayer campaign that will take place throughout our Archdiocese starting on September 28 and concluding November 6. 40 Days for Life is a peaceful initiative consisting of 40 days of prayer and fasting, peaceful vigil at abortion facilities, and educational outreach with the goal of protecting mothers and their children from abortion. Friends, in our Gospel, Jesus tells us that if we had faith the size of a mustard seed, we could uproot a mulberry tree and plant it in the sea. What is being communicated here is something simple: faith is power. When our lives are aligned to God we become conduits of enormous power.
Attachments block us and breaks this flow. An attachment is anything that you convince yourself you cannot live without. This idea is central to the spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola. What are the attachments that block the divine power from flowing through us? Wealth, pleasure, honor, power.
Look at the one that we hold up as the model of power. Notice please how comfortable he looks; notice how many “nice things” he has around him. And remark how popular he is, how everyone is singing his praises. And notice how successful he is, what a brilliant career he’s had!
Love what Jesus loved on the cross, and despise what he despised, said Thomas Aquinas. That is the key to a spiritually successful life and to the unleashing of divine power.

St. Francis of Assisi - October 4th
After a lukewarm upbringing surrounded by material wealth, a young Francis experienced a radical conversion to Christ and gave up everything to live in utter poverty. The son of a wealthy Italian merchant, Francis abandoned his wealth and security in the year 1208 and paradoxically attracted a group of like-minded followers who became Friars Minor, "the lesser brothers," known today as the Franciscans.
While economic poverty was and is certainly one of the Franciscan charisms, being materially poor was not at the center of Francis' witness. He understood that to be "Christlike" meant to unite oneself fully to Christ, holding nothing back---our goals, desires, pride, reputations---everything must be handed over to Jesus, just as St. Paul wrote: "It is no longer I who live, but Christ who dwells in me" (Gal 2:20).
"My Lord, I am all yours...what can I give you?"

October is the "Month of the Rosary," a time when we are called to especially focus on this beautiful devotion given to us through Mary to St. Dominic in the 13th century, and gifted to the entire Church!
The Rosary "slows us down" and helps us to contemplate the mysteries of Christ's life alongside his Blessed Mother. "The greatest of mystics and scholars have lost themselves in the depths of the mysteries presented by these scenes of the incarnation, death, and resurrection of the Redeemer," wrote Sister Mary Jean Dorcy.
If it's been 5 minutes or 5 years since you last prayed the Rosary, let this month be a time of returning to this beautiful devotion. In all our distractions, our exhaustion, and our trials, Mary will be with us, "now and at the hour of our death."

OCTOBER IS RESPECT LIFE MONTH
A bassinette will be set up in front of The Christ The King Altar and will be there for the entire month of October.
Baby items needed: receiving blankets, undershirts and stretchies (6-18 months), diapers, disposable (newborn and next size up) clothing (6-18 months), baby wipes, formula. Please, no large items or furniture.

The IHM Bible Discussion Group is focusing on the the First Epistle of Saint Peter on Tuesdays from 730-9pm at the parish (location TBD - school or lower church). Starting in Advent, when the universal Church begins hearing passages from the Gospel of St. Matthew at Sunday Liturgies (Year A), the discussion group at IHM will examine the Gospel According to St. Matthew. On Tuesday, November 29th we will start off with a Divine Liturgy at 7:00PM in the Chapel and go down to the lower Church to discuss Chapter 1 after Mass.

PUBLIC SQUARE ROSARY RALLY
You are invited to the 2022 PUBLIC SQUARE ROSARY RALLY on Saturday, October 15th at 12:00 noon. Will take place in the North Parking lot of IHM Church in Scarsdale by the Grotto of Our Lady. This year as we pray Our Lady’s Rosary and other prayers in her honor, we invoke her blessings on marriage and the family and on our country and the world, and especially for Peace in the Ukraine. This Rally is one of 20,000 rosary rallies, organized by America Needs Fatima, that will take place all over the United States. This is the Saturday closest to October 13th, the day the sun danced at Fatima Portugal. Please make an effort to attend. The Rosary Rally Captain is Priscilla Parameswaran (914) 441-8805. Knights of Columbus Raffle
The Rev. John A. Keogh Council: C&B is the Charitable & Benevolent Raffle program the Knights of Columbus runs each year. It is their main fundraiser and they use those funds to help those suffering from floods, earthquakes and other natural disasters.
C&B raffles will be available after all Masses on the weekend of October 15th & 16th.
